Labor Day Truths:
- The Yankees can't beat anyone but the Red Sox.
- The Red Sox can beat everyone but the Yankees.
Watching your team drop three of four to a bunch of cellar dwellers and the team chasing them for the final playoff spot is no way to spend your Labor Day weekend, but alas, here I am. Roger Clemens pitched his age today, he was relieved by Mike Mussina, who will return to the rotation in Clemens' place. The rocket will get an MRI on his ailing elbow.
Mussina made his first regular-season relief appearance today, and I left the game thinking he wasn't that bad. This is the what it's come to for Mussina, he pitched 3.2 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 earned runs and I thought it wasn't such a bad outing for him.
The Yankee lead in the Wild Card is down to one game. If they want Seattle to leave the Bronx in second place, they really need a win tomorrow. The Wanger is on the hill, he's the ace, he needs to stop this disgraceful run. If Wang doesn't get the job done, it's going to be up to Phil Hughes on Wednesday, and he isn't exactly fooling anyone these days.
This season of schizophrenic play has taken days, if not months, off my life, all I ask is for one good run to come, and come quickly.
Player of The Game: A-Rod, 2 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base.
