It came out today that Carl Pavano missed his last Spring Training start to be with his girlfriend, who had a "severe medical condition." A Google search for "Carl Pavano's girlfriend" yielded two names, Alyssa Milano of "Who's the Boss?" fame, and more recently Gia Allemand.
It's comforting to know that Pavano has put the years of free time he's had since signing with the Yanks to good use. I don't want to speculate as to what the medical emergency could've been, I'm just glad good old Carl has the type of job where he can take a day off whenever he needs one to be there for his high-maintenance girlfriends.
It's just one thing after another with this guy, here's a quote from the story, "There definitely was a little bit of a struggle about me wanting to pitch. I went with the voice of reason because my head was kind of going in both directions. In life, sometimes there are things (anything) you've got to take care of that take precedent over that (playing baseball." Pavano said.
This follow-up question should've been asked, "Carl, does baseball take precedent over anything in your life? I mean, the Yanks are paying you about $10M to 'pitch' this year." Pavano is expected to pitch tomorrow, barring any unforeseen "life things" that may come up between now and then.
I know knocking a guy for something like this is taboo, but Pavano doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from me until he earns it.
