When the rumor surfaced a couple of weeks ago that the Yanks were interested in signing Joel Pineiro I was less than thrilled. The guy is a complete stiff. Well, I no longer have to worry about watching him give up dingers in a Yankee uniform, because the Red Sox have signed him...to compete for their closer's job.

Hilarious. That's the only word that comes to mind. Pineiro was a promising rookie six years ago. He finished 2001 with a 2.03 ERA. Each season since then his ERA has jumped at least a half run, until this past season when he finished with a 6.36 ERA, and a 1.65 WHIP. Those numbers are completely wretched. I guess the Red Sox ownership thinks they've got an 87-year grace period with their fans before they have to worry about winning another ring.

Unreal. It's only a matter of time before they go back to Papelbon.
