Melky is on the bench, probably because of his injury. The Yanks finally called up Shelley Duncan, who recently set Scranton’s single-season HR record (click on the link to see his minor league stats), and he’s going directly into the lineup.
It troubles me that Melky is sitting. I hope this isn’t something that’s going to linger.
I love seeing young guys get their first shot. Duncan has been hot lately, and hopefully he can stay hot. Another name to keep an eye on in the Yankee minor league system is Juan Miranda. He’s a Cuban defector who is anywhere between 23 and 35 years-old.
I saw him play in Trenton last Friday, and he looks like a legit left-handed power bat. Unfortunately, he has no glove at first. He’s on the 40–man roster, and I expect to see him in the Bronx at some point (probably as a September call up.)
Looks like Torre gave your boy Ramirez a chance tonight, and it didn't go so well.
I'm going to have plenty to say about this later. The kid sat on the bench and rotted for 2 weeks, this wasn't a surprise. I feel bad for him.
