As I sit here and watch Johan Santana maxing out at about 90 MPH on his fastball and see guys like Bill Hall taking him deep to the opposite field I can't help but be thankful the Yanks didn't give up Phil Hughes for him.
Moose vs. Beckett in about an hour and a half.
Brian - I watched Santana's first game and he was very impressive...the last 2 starts have been mediocre.
I watched the last inning and a half tonight. Looks like Cano is coming around.
It's still very very early....
It's not the results that would scare me if I'm a Mets fan, it's the velocity. Maybe he needs to build up arm strength. Maybe his velocity will be back in the mid-nineties by mid-season. But right now, his fastball is about 87 regularly and 90 at the max. That's not the Johan Santana they paid all that money for. I'm sure he can still be effective in the national league, but he's not going to be dominant without his heater. And he's going to give up a ton of bombs.
