This was a very strange game for Mike Mussina, the 8 Ks would lead you to believe he was sharp, the 10 hits would lead you to believe he was not. Regardless, he pitched 6 solid innings, allowing only 2 runs and giving the offense time to solve and defeat Matt Garza. The Moose now has 17 wins, and could have 5 more starts to get 3 more wins for the ever-elusive 20.

Nady hit a bomb off the catwalk early on, which would prove to be the deciding blow. Marte had an impressive outing, coming with a runner on second and no one out in the sixth, and getting two outs before yielding to the man. And by the man, I mean the kid,  Joba Chamberlain. He and Dan Giese both made their triumphant returns to the team. Joba's velocity was down, but he went 1.1 innings and didn't give up a run.

The Rojo crushed the Orioles, the Twins lost to the Jays and Blanco got pasted by the Tribe. If you're still into the playoff race, the Yanks remain 7 behind Boston, but pull to within 3 of Minny/Chicago (who are tied for the lead in the Central).

One thing to keep an eye on. While the Yanks may have no say in their own postseason fate, they can and probably will decide, or help decide, two other races. The Bosox are now 4 games behind the Rays, the Yanks have 5 games left with Tampa and end the season with a three game set in Boston. They also have a big 4-game series with the ChiSox coming up. Good or bad, they could still have a big hand in determining who gets to play in the second season.

Pavano continues his push for a contract tomorrow. He's matched up against Edwin Jackson.

The true wonder of this game is Jeter and Nady let that high fly ball dropped between them and neither of them got an E.
BTW, can somebody in the Tankees coaching staffs slap the back of Cano's head and tell him to stop swinging so carelessly at balls out of the strike zone?

He chased three or four balls at his eyes in one at bat against Garza. Someone needs to slap Cano in the back of the head for a lot of things.

Here's the answer to the "8 Ks & 10 hits" mystery:
"He had a generous zone," Moose said of Brian Runge.
Maybe Carl our Saviour will throw a perfect game tonight.

The zone was generous, maybe Moose will get lucky and have Runge behind the dish for a couple more starts.

I see Damon has 53 broken bats...do we know if that's some kind of record...?

Should we try the Elias Sports Bureau...??

I'm certain the number is higher than 53, I've only been counting the obvious ones, and I'm also certain it's a record.
