Yanks Beat A Lefty?

I couldn't think of a better way to open the nominal second-half of the season. The Yanks pounded Greg Smith to the tune of 6 earned on 8 hits in only 3.2 innings. Mike Mussina dropped his ERA to 3.49 and picked up his 12th win of the season, and the Yankee pen was dominant, Robertson pitched a clean inning striking out the side, Edwar struck out two in his perfect inning and even LaTroy Hawkins threw a zero up on the board.

The Yanks also debuted their latest acquisition, Richie Sexson. In his first at bat he picked up a two-out RBI single to tie the game up, he added a walk later on and only struck out once, which has to be considered a moral victory.

In the battle for center, Melky was 2 for 4 with a double, Brett Gardner was 0 for 4 with an ugly, head-first slide into first trying to beat out a bunt. The slide was Melky-esque, and just as effective as the head-first slides the current CF has become infamous for. Advantage Melky, today.
