Depressed Fan has gone all Sixers. I will still be blogging the Yankees and the Eagles, just in a different place. You can find my Yankee coverage at In Mo We Trust and the Eagles at Don't Boo The Birds. I'll be able to focus on each team better this way.
The inaugural season of the Blogs By Fans Fantasy Hoops Keeper league kicked off last night with our live auction draft. I've always felt that we haven't done enough to incorporate fantasy sports into what we do here on the network, so I'm hoping this league will be the start of a new tradition.
I'm pretty happy with the way my team turned out, I'm weak at center and I need one or two young guys to pay off, but overall, I think it looks solid. My team is listed below (price payed for the player in parens), after the jump you can see the draft results. I'll post updates on the league here throughout the season.
PG - Jose Calderon ($17)
SG - Andre Iguodala ($30)
SF - LeBron James ($60)
PF - Elton Brand ($39)
C - Kendrick Perkins ($1)
G - Mo Williams ($9)
F - Mike Miller ($17)
Util - Mike Bibby ($9)
Util - Thad Young ($8)
Util - Kevin Love ($6)
Bench - Russell Westbrook ($1)
Bench - Ronny Turiaf ($1)
Bench - Jason Maxiell ($1)
IR - Brendan Haywood ($1)
Spending $60 on LeBron early pretty much meant I had to pick and choose my spots throughout. I had my mind set on 4 guys after LeBron: Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala, Jose Calderon and Mike Miller. I wound up overpaying for Iguodala and Brand (mostly because everyone in the league knew I wanted them, so they drove up the price), I got Miller for pretty much what I thought he'd go for, and Calderon seemed like a real bargain at $17. I was prepared to go into the high $20s to get him. His low turnover rate is huge for a point guard in a league that counts turnovers.
Bibby and Mo Williams both seemed like good values and with LeBron and Iguodala as my wings, I should dominate assists. I'm probably going to be middle of the pack in rebounds, lower half in turnovers (because I have 3 points and LeBron/Iguodala turn the ball over too much), and up there in all other categories. The only guy on my team who shoots less than 45% from the floor is Bibby.
Anyway, that's my team, and some of my logic. After the jump you'll find the results from the entire draft. Enjoy.
Amir Johnson should be owned. Drop Maxiell for him.
Amir's fantasy production is beast on a per minute basis. By beast I mean Marcus Camby caliber per minute. Small sample size, but he isn't going to all of a sudden be horrible.
Calderon was a steal though. Calderon = Nash, Deron, Iverson in fantasy terms.
I know Amir is supposed to be the starter at PF, but Maxiell has been getting the minutes so far in the preseason. I'll have to keep an eye on it. May try to pick him up, I have an empty roster spot.
Yeah, I was shocked I got Calderon for that little. I've seen him go for $30+ in other drafts. I had budgeted $30 for him, but couldn't have spent it.
Budgeted $53 for LeBron, wound up paying $60. Budgeted $35 for Brand, wound up paying $39.
Got Iguodala for the $30 I budgeted. Josh Smith went for $36, which shocked me.
That was the first of those that I've done. I enjoyed it, but I see where I could have done different things with my team. Thanks again for setting it up!

I really love these auction drafts.

You probably overpaid for Rose a little, but otherwise I think you did a good job. Your team is solid.
I traded Rose to Kelper for Ronnie Brewer. I just went after Rose to spite Rickhouse!
