Win number nine is right there for the taking. The Nets don't appear to be much improved from their 12-win season a year ago, Avery Johnson's act doesn't seem to be having an impact on his mismatched roster. If the Sixers put together an effort similar to what we've seen over the past seven games, this one should be fairly easy.

Lineups

  • PG: Jrue Holiday vs. Devin Harris
  • SG: Jodie Meeks vs. Anthony Morrow
  • SF: Andre Iguodala vs. Quinton Ross
  • PF: Elton Brand vs. Kris Humprhies
  • C: Spencer Hawes vs. Brook Lopez

OK, it's time to put away a bad team and get that ever-elusive second road win of the season. Keep an eye on Collins' rotations tonight. I'm not sure he can afford to trim it to seven men on the first night of a back-to-back.

This is your game thread, the tip is at 7pm. I'll be right here throughout, reminiscing about all those games at the Swamp over the years.

Lets beat these Nets so we can get to the Clippers. I want to see me some Blake Griffin.

Ah, a team with a real future ahead of it. I'm just saying that to be annoying - but it's true! Gordon and Griffin are studs, Gordon more so than Griffin at the moment, actually, and Jordan might really pan out. Bledsoe's pretty promising too.

I'll put my money on Griffin to turn out as the better player, barring injury of course (his style seems conducive to injury though)

Aren't you the same person who did all that research last year about how great players never play on teams that truly struggle? At the time, you were bashing Iguodala, but if Griffin and Gordon are really that good, how could the team possibly be this bad? Shouldn't their greatness provide a minimum of say, 40 wins, by your own flawed logic?

The Clippers have four promising young players, but they're still the frigging Clippers. Chris Kaman is injured, Baron Davis is lazy, and their role players should be playing for the D-League.

Yes, this is why they're not a playoff team yet. No one said they were any good now, just that in 2-3 years Griffin/Gordon/Jordan/Bledsoe could be a pretty great starting rotation. They need to find a semblance of a bench, let Baron Davis go when his contract expires, get rid of Kaman, probably hire a real coach, but these are way smaller problems to correct than our issues, which include, not having a legit #1 option on offense (maybe Turner will be that guy, but that's obviously not something you can even begin to count on), not having a center, not having a (future) power forward, and not necessarily having a shooting guard.

Yes, the Clippers are the model organization. I can't understand why more teams aren't adopting the Clippers model. I'm sure it all work out well for them.

I like when people talk about how good the clippers are going to be in the future, ignoring the fact that the owner is a douche, and a racist, and heckles his own players

I don't get how a scumbag Owner makes it funny that people think the Clippers will be good in future.

Also i find it awesome that he heckles Baron Davis.

So you are ignorant of the clippers history - yet think you can predict it.

If you don't know how sterling operates the most profitable team in the NBA year in and year out - I can't help you.

And you thinking it's awesome that he heckles Baron Davis is no surprise - but it doesn't make you any more informed about the clippers

I'd heckle him too if i paid a guy that much and he couldn't even show up in shape.

Does your boss heckle you? I mean you're obviously over paid

So true. Maybe the Clippers should abandon this silly plan they have of trying to win with all these high draft picks and bring Camby back. Obviously any team that has the Rookie of the Year and a 21-year old shooting guard dropping 25 a game while going to the line 10 times a game has it all wrong. A model of team development that should be run from as far away as possible.

Aminu looks a lot better than i thought he'd be too

You're a fool if you think it's a 'plan'. The clippers draft high because they always have a bad record. Let's see what happens when these guys are due their REAL contracts

Collins' pregame story: "I was on the elevator with (Jack Nicholson) one night. We squeezed onto the elevator and we were facing everybody. Nobody would say a word. He was the first one off. He looked down and there was a dime on the floor. He picked it up and said, ‘Dougie, my boy, the rich get richer.' "

Tereence williams has been traded to the rockets
Someone took Sasha Vujacic from the Lakers (the nets for 2 first round picks)
and the lakers got joe smith

Daryl Morey is a genius folks - that's what they tell me

Morey is collecting disappointing Nets wings.

I always liked T-Williams.

Also Lakers gave Nets a 1st round pick I thought i read on ESPN? "New Jersey will receive Los Angeles' 2011 first-round pick "

Sasha's contract BLOWS - no one really wants it

The Nets got the lakers pick and probably the rockets 2012 lottery protected pick

hoopshype has it as a $5 million expiring? I don't think that's too bad, turning JoeSmith into that and a late first is pretty good imo.

My bad, got him confused with luke walton - no one wants him.

The lakers are desperately thin at big man actually - ratliff as their 'backup' has been bad and not available - even if Bynum comes back and stays healthy they'll have to limit his minutes, and pau has been playing WAY too much - getting smith is a short term thing (assuming bynum stays healthy) until bynum gets back in game conditioning and ratliff gets healthy.

I wonder if Tony battie has any trade value lol, even for a 2nd round pick heh. Contender could always use an extra big.

Jesus, I can't believe Houston gave up a first rounder for Williams. It was their own pick, too, which figures to be in the lottery.

It is lottery protected, what's so bad about Williams?

Besides the fact that he was a problem to the point where they sent him to the NBADL earlier this season?

Still don't know exactly what it is he did. I think talent wise giving up a lottery protected first is pretty good for TW.

You may not know what he did but you have to have enough of a clue to realize that there's more to a player aside from talent - and those are the things that matter and people don't care about as much.

Terrence Williams is a prima donna and has been since he was drafted, and the nets are glad to be rid of him.

A 2012 pick, I thought. I don't know where that figures to be.

Sorry, are the Rockets "exciting?"

Daryl Morey is the billy beane of the nba

he exists on reputation alone these days

Kevin Martin is probably more fun to watch than all the Sixers rolled up together, yeah. Same's true of Scola to a lesser extent. There's a definite artistry to how they score. I liked Yao when he was younger, and Brooks is entertaining when actually on the court. As a whole, though, I haven't really enjoyed the Rockets games I've seen this year... and I don't think that group of players will ever go anywhere, so, much like us, any entertainment you get out of watching them is kind of tinged by the ultimate meaningless/hopelessness of it all.

Kevin Martin is probably more fun to watch than all the Sixers rolled up together, yeah.
He's a lot of fun to watch when he inevitably gets injured

Yeah, then he gets really boring. I wouldn't suggest trading for him or anything, I strictly want to tank.

Yeah, Martin's been a big-time winner in his career. That exciting basketball, you just can't beat it.

Like I said, I don't want him, it'd just be trading for a different form of mediocrity, albeit a more watchable type.

Yeah, why are you going nuts on Tray today? Have a bad day?

Also, guess this means Houston's interest in Iggy is close to zero.

very true. maybe the nets will be more interested in Iggy later in the year though

Morrow got hurt shaking hands, apparently. Stephen Graham is replacing him in the starting lineup. Looks like Morrow pulled a nut.

And here we go......Hawes wins the tip, sort of.

How was that not an up and down? Fucking bullshit. Grab a god damned board, please.

Atta boy, Jrue.

Defense is turning on the pressure now.

That Nets training staff is top notch.

What does that mean?

Morrow pulled up lame just prior to the tip, he limped into the locker room. They checked him out, then like 2 minutes into the game, Avery Johnson put him on the floor. On the first play he fell down writhing in pain.

Hawes costing Jrue assists.

The czar is a big Hawes fan.

Nets Broadcast talking about how good Hawes is.

Yeah, I was cracking up.

I have to say the nets commentators are very entertaining.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Hawes with his 2nd three! Jrue is probing and pressuring their defense like crazy.

7 made shots, 6 assists. And the 7th was the Iguodala three, which probably should've been an assist to Brand, he kicked out of a double team.

Great pass by Meeks to EB for the +1.

Eric Snow is just brutal as a commentator.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Ahh, Jrue blew that break.

Spencer Hawes Hair cut is fierce.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Boy, DC is extending that bench for sure already, Battie in already.

That was a surprise.

We have to protect Hawes; as has been the case in a lot of these dominant, promising victories which augur so well for our young core, he's actually leading us in scoring early on.

Bad break. Hawes should've given it up right away, Jrue should've kicked up to Meeks right away. Three mistakes on one break.

Turner is the first guard off the bench for the second consecutive game.

2 fouls on Spencer. Need big vs Lopez.

Iguodala sulking over bad pass.

Ugh, meeks can't get any more open than he was on that one.

7 offensive boards for the Nets. Need to clean that up.

Sixers lead 26-20 after the first quarter.

Five for kris humphries. Who the hell wasn't boxing him out?

Brand, for the most part. They had Hawes on Lopez.

Iguodala should've swung to Turner there. Probably should've swung it to him two different times. First time I've noticed something that looks like AI9 doesn't trust ET.

Favors is impressive.

If you ignore half of his game

Team looking stagnant without the "ball mover" Hawes and no Jrue.

Yeah, I think it's more the latter than the former.

Turner's working on the glass, at least.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

OK Doug, Jrue's been on the bench long enough. He's a young blood, run him.

4 turnovers for Jrue now, that one was careless. Ugh.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Don't need that though, Jrue. Bad pass down court and a look at Farmar blow-by. come on

They gave that turnover to Turner for some reason.

Oh well. Decent spurt to push the lead back up to 8. They still seem sluggish to me.

The Sixers are not playing well. If they don't wake up, they're going to lose this game.

They look a step slow against the Nets second unit.

Now that we've accomplished the astonishing feat of winning 5 out of 7 (and one of those two losses was against a great team and it was really really close!), rendering us an elite squad, we're taking games off against the dregs of the league, conserving our strength for the first round.

Heh. I love how much the Sixers playing good basketball pisses you off.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Wonder why he put Lou back in for Jrue?

Not sure. Jrue actually settled down toward the end of his run.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good hedge on that screen by Thad and good rotations overall resulting in NJ throwing the ball away.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Agree on the guys being sluggish, but the intensity they came out of the gates with was off the charts. Jrue was darting everywhere and then it just sort of waned off overall after we were up 22-11.

40-34 at the half.

That 14-14 second quarter was every bit as ugly as you'd expect a 14-14 quarter to be. I hope Collins is spitting fire in the locker room at the half. Need a better effort than they showed. This game should be over right now.

Yea that second quarter was horrible. I thought the shot selection was horrible as well.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Wonder why he doesn't try to get Jodie some looks off some screens?

Jodie for 3

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Hawes shot looking good tonight. Up ten, let's go, extend this lead before our bench comes in.

Needed that three by Meeks, but I can't believe they can't get anything going toward the rim.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good kickout by Jrue. ugh. Jodie just isn't dialed in tonight.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

ANd Jodie then missed the tech.

Nice D by Jrue and AI9 on that pick and roll. They switched it and Jrue did a good job with the bigger guy on him.

4 on Hawes.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Man, stop giving up these o-boards.

Jrue stepped on someone's foot I think.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Yeah, way to make them pay for trapping full court.

Made breaking that press look easy. Definitely something they've practiced.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Go to the rack Lou.

Great pass by Jrue, EB got stripped low, though.

Good. Go right into the body and make sure you get the contact.

Bad Lou tonight.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

SHit. Have an eerie feeling in my stomach about this game right now. Down to 6.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Has Dre scored tonight? doesn't seem like it...

Just that early three. 1/6 from the floor. 0/2 from the line.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Funny to say this - but we seem to go to shit when Spencer goes out.

He's the only one hitting jumpers, and everyone is taking jumpers.

Might have to do with him as making as many shots as Holiday, Meeks, Andre, Lou, and Turner combined.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Man, they are closing off the lane on us. Thad can't even get in there.

Heh. Iguodala was just a bully on that play.

user-pic
eddies' heady's replied to comment from Brian +/-

Good block by him for the clock violation.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Looks like it's going to be another edge-of-your-seater. Strap your belts....

That's what I love about Lou. We have to double Uzoh in the post.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Damn Thad. Was he fouled?

Either he was fouled or he did a good job acting to cover up the brick he threw off the backboard.

Sixers lose the third by two points, still leading the game, though.

PHI 59, NJN 55.

Wonder if we're going to get a chance to see the Sixers win a close one.

Beautiful pass by Turner

What a crappy game. Settle down and run the sets patiently, damnit.

I assume we can all say we feel a loss coming here?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

We need to try to attack them packing it in on us and at least get them in the penalty early here to get to the line. Nothing else seems to be working?

Maybe get EB some post looks or why not post Dre up? Who's been guarding him? Doesn't he have a size advantage?

Outlaw is pretty long.

Jrue and Hawes in to start the fourth.

We better than these dudes lets Gooooooooooooooooo Sixers.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Friggin' o-boards, dammit.

They have 18 of them. Favors and Humphries have 12 between them.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Come on Evan, forcing it.

Bad Call

Five on Hawes. Favors is an animal.

Holy mother of god.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Almost another o-board off a missed free throw. ugh

Hawes lets go hes player of the game

JRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue for 3! Let's go. Stops. stops.

BIG three for Jrue. Come on, a couple stops, a couple hoops and this is over.

Brian I think Hawes might be player of the game lol

Reminds me of the old LB teams. Winning ugly. Hard on the eyes but better than losing, right?

Honestly, there's no reason to see Lou the rest of the way. Jrue's minutes are pretty low, I think he'll wind up with about 36 if he finishes this one out. Lou has been terrible tonight.

HAWESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS PLAYER OF THE GAME

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hawes. I just can't stop laughing.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

YES. Spencer with the turn-around fade away with the clock at one. from 22 ft. ha

Hawes horse-collared Outlaw there, lucky he didn't get called for his sixth.

Come on, Jrue. Sink these freebies.

Damn how does kris get a bad chick like kim i know i look better than that dude lol

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Oohhhh. nice block by Hawes.

Good board, Jrue.

Go to the hole, please.

Humphries iso again?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Up 8 with five min left. still think this one is far from over.

While it's totally possible that the Nets won't score 8 points the rest of the way, I wouldn't count on it.

5 pts plus the 60 ft bobbled 3 ball.

Nets' interior defensive presence keeping this game close.

Terrible spacing on that play. Jrue salvaged it by swinging, but there were 4 guys in like a 10-foot triangle on the right side of the floor.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good rotation by Meeks there to Jrue's man. And a stop.

Dre with a reverse throw-down!

Wow. Sick dunk.

I was more impressed with jodie closing on the kick out to harris for what would've been a wide-open three at any point in the past three seasons against the sixers.

Come on sixers

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Way to use the glass, Jrue. Stops now please.

Nice backdoor pass. That's a couple of those by Peyton tonight.

Closer to Eli. I'd take Dannie.

Hawes has been fantastic.

Barring something crazy happening, this will be Spencer Hawes' first POTG in a Sixers uniform.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dre, ugh, no long jumpers like that. GO to the hole.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Yeah Jrue. And 1 opp.

Ball game.

Excellent drive, Jrue. Right into his body for the +1.

Big one Jrue. We're still in Wizards territory, but that was huge.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

EB should have shot that.

Agreed.

user-pic
eddies' heady's replied to comment from Brian +/-

Looked like Doug was telling him the same thing after the turnover.

There are worse things than a 24 second violation at this point.

Like throwing it away and giving up a 3?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Uh-oh. Down to 3

Don't just ice it here. You need a fucking score god damnit.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Thank you Dre for making the first one. Up 4 now. Makes the 2nd. Over. phew

Big FTs by AI9 there, but a fucking dumb turnover put them in the situation.

The worst thing for this team is an 8 point lead with 1:30 left.

Phew.

Hawesone game.

Sixers hold on in a close one. 82-77.

Not a good game for them on the offensive end. Good defense, and I guess it's good for them to get a win without an A effort.

My wrap will be up late tonight. 9-15, folks.

The YES guys were talking about a great defensive effort by the Sixers tonight. They played well on that end, but it seemed more like bad offense from the Nets to me.

A win's a win though.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Killed on the glass. Non-existent execution of offense pretty much all night. Nothing from anyone on the bench. Not-so-good night from Dre. Hardly any fast breaks. Still won.

They can't all be pretty. Good to see they pulled a game like this out, in years past they would have tucked their tails and sulked. They're buying in big time, and that's half the battle. Good win as far as I'm concerned.

Tony Battie is softer than tissue paper. I need my veteran bigs that play limited minutes to give hard fouls. Unbelievable how bad of a player he is. wow.

Spencer Haywood.. er Hawes & Meredith look like a pretty good pair. I hope they hook up. Nice game by Spencer!

Video: Spencer Hawes after scoring a season-high 18 points in the Sixers' road win over the Nets:

http://ow.ly/3plQL

Iguodala: "It was really a bad game. Somebody had to win. It just happened to be us. It’s one of the wins you just forget about — it’s kind of like a bad loss. It goes in the win column, but neither team played good at all."

glad to see he was proud of Jrue for stepping up in the 4th quarter...

anyone else think it was inexcusable for Iggy to not even attempt to close out on the Outlaw 3 after that ridiculous turnover

I thought the pass that led to it was inexcusable. Didn't notice anything about a close out, though.

hey, check the twitters. apparently Melo was traded to the Nets. I suck at twitter, I've been duped 3 or 4 times in the last week. Seems legit though

KMGHTV in Denver is the source

Still no confirmation on it. Just a random tweet from what appears to be a denver news channel. They're saying it's Favors, Murphy and picks.

seems foolish if he's not going to agree to an extension. I really don't put it past BK and the crazy Russian owner though.

They're still trying to sell him on the new stadium in brooklyn and the crazy russian owner who will spend whatever it takes to sign guys like Outlaw, Morrow, Farmar and Petro.

Looks like it isn't legit:

Any report Denver and New Jersey have an agreement for a Melo deal is "completely and utterly false" one ... http://tmi.me/4d13k

Twitter is really getting out of hand.

RT @InsideHoops KMGH TV Denver rep told InsideHoops Nuggets/Nets agree to FRAMEWORK of a Carmelo Anthony trade, but no done deal yet

Maybe it's legit, trying to coax him into agreeing to extension
