Wall vs. Turner part three. Our twenty-year-old point guard vs. their twenty-year-old point guard. Marreese Speights and Andray Blatche on the floor at the same time, not defending each other. What more can you ask for? Sixers vs. Wizards, it's fan-tastic!
Lineups
- PG: Jrue Holiday (20 years, 207 days old) vs. John Wall (20 years, 121 days old)
- SG: Jodie Meeks vs. Nick Young
- SF: Andres Nocioni vs. Rashard Lewis
- PF: Elton Brand vs. Andray Blatche
- C: Spencer Hawes vs. JaVale McGee
This is your game thread, I'll be right here wondering why dancing in the introduction line makes you a can't-miss superstar. Join me if you're into watching the Sixers pummel a bad basketball (or maybe just worse?) basketball team. I hope Hawes survives the layup line.
Well, Wall plays like he's going to be a can't miss superstar, or pretty close to it. When he's been healthy, anyway.
Really?
At some point it's just not worth it - is it?
I'll be in the house tonight, first time all year. Last year I went to a Wizards game and got a front row seat for Arenas' gun dance.
Collins is coaching tonight -- slept five hours today and said he feels better. Hawes is playing.
Will post Collins pre-game video shortly.
Video: Collins pregame on feeling better after missing morning shoot-around:

Interesting, Mo down in body fat :O. I'm pleasantly surprised.
On road trips are the sixers in control of players diets?
I'm thankful for a 7 pm game finally.
Teach me how to dougie ... teach me .. teach me how to dougie ....!
Cool, funny write-up above.
Think last time we played them McGee ate us up on the boards. Hope they keep that to a minimum.
7pm game, feels sort of good, if the kids would quiet down.
Anyway, Hawes back, lineup above about to be updated.
Oh yeah, Jrue need not get in foul trouble early w/ Dre still out please.
Dag, we should be 18-16 instead of 13-21
Shouldn't we be the ones 'Dougie-ing' with the refreshment Collins has brought us fans this year?
And we're off...Hawes loses the tip.
Jrue giving Wall a ton of room on the defensive end, then posts Wall up on the other end and hits.
Jrue jumping before passing again for a TO.
aaand the next two possessions don't go quite so well. F me. Clean that shit up, Jrue.
Blatche and Brand going at each other, sort of.
God, Blatche is so unbelievably bad defensively.
Did Rashard just blow by someone on the dribble? Must've been Nocioni.
Nice drive, Jrue.
Shard gave a hard ball fake left and Noc bit HARD. lol
Oooh weee....Jrue with the reverse left hand lay-in on McGee
OK, Jrue's first foul. Don't pick up the second.
I have that jacket Iguodala's wearing. Or at least a 34-year-old man's version of it.
I kind of liked it the 2nd time they showed it.
One of the feew good things about west coast living - no suits
Good job of Jrue to swing that to Meeks for the 3.
Yeah, make the extra pass against this team and you're getting WIDE open looks all night.
Turner is first off the bench, in for Nocioni who was getting burned.
Turner guarding Shard.
Man, Hawes should've at least gone after that offensive board, that was sad.
I'd love to see Brand explode for like 40 against these jokers.
Ugh. This Shard garbage does not happen if Iguodala isn't on the bench wearing in my dinner attire.
Give EB a touch every time as long as Blatche is on him.
WHAT'D I DO
"AND ONE!"
*TWEEEET!*
"WHAT'D I DO???"
Brand and Blatche, wired.
Is Blatche's shot worse than turners lol.
Jrue hitting the extra gear to fuel a pseudo break. EB beasting it on the glass.
Brand went "OH!!!" like 4 times that possession.
Excellent defensive possession winds up in a 24-second violation. Brand is inspired tonight.
good defensive play by Brand.
Heh. Sick break there with Turner feeding Jrue for the easy deuce.
Captain should have gone with the Horace Grant goggles.
Is he wearing shades?
He's wearing protective glasses, awful looking.
Terrible defensive quarter, especially the end. They hit a bunch of long jumpers early, but late they were just getting eaten alive down low.
Ugh, they should be up by a lot more than three after the first quarter.
PHI 29, WAS 26
Fun Fact, Speights per 40 minutes is averaging 8 field goal attempts from 16-23 feet.
I'm really not a big fan of the Williams/Meeks backcourt.
Two gunners who don't set up offenses or defend - what could possiblie (sci) go wrong?
How about just leaving no doubt in this game. Like, 6 minutes for Kapono, Songaila or Brackins in the fourth quarter. That type of blowout?
Speights has made 4 nice passes and drawn a charge (almost two charges). Wow.
Reese with 3 nice passes so far. 2 converted but the one not converted to Jrue was the best, it was back door.
damn Speights not bad at all.
I think Philadelphia forgot about the sixers over the holidays.
Also i'm not sure what to think of Jodie/Lou/Speights/Thad on the court at the same time.
Not a lot of defense being played.
Speights should really be getting more PT. Better rebounder than Hawes, better offensively and honestly has been playing smart D and making crisp passes. Of course he has been awful this season but you can't prove much with 10 minutes a game. I hope he keeps this up I'm not a Speezy fanatic or anything but I still think he's got more upside than Hawes and a chance to develop into sort of Andray Blatche will balls and a clue.
Speights bailed Lou out that time. Talk about dribbling the air out of the ball.
was saying the same thing on the dribbling
Extend this lead up to around 18-20 before the end of the quarter. I sort of sense a blowout too.
What if Collins actually got through to Speights by benching him for an extended period of time?
Eric Snow is really getting into the whole Philly thing, huh? Zumoff asks him "wit or witout" Snow has no idea what he's talking about.
He's at his worst when he talks Eagles. Just terrible.
Ugh, does Thad just not have a right hand at the hoop. All he had to do was turn and go up w/ his right but he wanted to spin back to his right so he could go up lefty and instead had to kick it out.
Shoot.... scratch that blowout feeling.
How about a good shot for once?
OK, jrue gets to the line, I'll take that.
Quick hook for Hawes after terrible defense.
Man, when the starters trickled back in we gave up the lead that was around 8.
Turner just gives you no offense whatsoever. Frustrating.
Is it too much to ask for a strong finish to this quarter and a five or six point lead heading into the half?
Give Brackins some minutes? he'd fit right in.
Why the hell is Shard standing at the arc and no one near him? Was that on EB or Noc?
Hawes is hurt again, and no one w/in 15 feet of shard for a three.
Looks like Matt Geiger threw out Hawes's back. /2001 reference
Speights blows.
Bleh. Terrible end to the quarter after the bench built a decent lead. Have to be better than that against this team.
PHI 50, WAS 52
Brand was unstoppable in the first quarter, then Collins sat him for about 11 minutes of game action. He didn't get another touch until the very end of the second quarter. Can't explain any of that.
Evan has decided he doesn't want to attack the basket anymore.
Terrible damn half all around. Sans trips to the line and shooting percentage.
No way he can keep Turner on the floor that much in the 2nd half (17 min) and he not do squat - but maybe grab a board or two.
Noc is not giving you shit either but for the life of me can't understand why he doesn't give Thad more burn. He only gets 11 minutes? Give some of Evan's run to him please.
Moment of silence for Rich and any other depressed fans at this game.
Was planning on catching the Charlotte/philly game and already am reconsidering.
ouch, that's a tough one. I need to figure out the next time I'm going down to the WFC. Definitely going to see the Sixers in Chicago in late March, mini-vacation w/out the kids for me and the Mrs.
Smart words from that random assistant coach. Just make the smart pass.
We need a timeout Doug. This is bull
Jesus Christ. Have some fucking pride.
Kapono? Are you fucking me?
Desperation time - JK in for Meeks after only 2+ min of play.
Wait, was that three Kapono hit last game really his first of the season? Can't be.
JRUE!
Man, he loves the left, huh?
Give it to EB everytime.
Jrue with a nice penetration and lefty finish.
Lewis is abusing Nocioni.
Seriously, I'd rather have Turner missing jumpers out there than Kapono missing jumpers.
I wonder who sounds more white Evan or Jason
Evan, and it's not even close.
10-2 run to take the lead back.
It's crazy to think that Jrue couldn't score in college with the amount of body control he displays on a regular basis. (I know it was mostly UCLA's system, but still)
The rare three white guys lineup. Kapono with a miss on a wide-open corner three.
it's like 40% caucasian out there... you ever hear that chris rock joke? "black people , 10% of the population and 90% of the final four"
Nocioni talked the ref into calling that foul on him. He was just going to give the ball to Washington.
Jrue wide open for a slam. He still uses the left.
Hinrich looks like Jordan with Nocioni on him.
Jrue would be taking over, if Kapono and Nocioni weren't giving up hoops on the other end on every possession.
They really can't do anything w/ Jrue off the dribble.
I like this lineup for tonight except put in Speights for Noc.
Jrue, Lou, Thad, EB, and 'Reese.
Heh, Lou gets the foul from Hinrich on the jumper.
And he gets three shots. Ugh, misses the first.
Well, he took EB instead of Noc. He was due for a rest though.
Ugh, Lou had two guys in the air w/ the fake and he doesn't jump into either of 'em to draw the foul.
Another terrible end to a quarter. Thank you, Jrue.
Eh, the very end was better. Lou hit a tough jumper nearly at the buzzer.
PHI 76, WAS 75 after three.
Dre sure seems involved from the bench. Wish he would display some of that same emotion when on the floor.
I'm afraid he's going to sit Jrue to start the fourth.
And he's only ran for 31 min. He better bring him back at no less than the 8 min mark.
Team, meet Jrue's back this quarter.
He's got to go the length here w/ Thad and Lou you'd think. Don't know if Noc or ET is better to man the three here tonight though.
Well, Jrue's out now and ET in.
Maybe Turner can get hot.
Not possible
Nice to say Evan hit a tough shot after all that quietness
Too much dribbling by Turner that time. Empty break on the other end, then a wide-open three for Washington. Terrible series of possessions.
SHit, get Jrue back in.
haha just spotted sam cassell on wizards bench... miss his ugliness
Get Jrue for ET and EB for Noc.
Jrue, Lou, Thad, EB and Speights, Doug. That's your best combo tonight.
Nope, not yet.
He will not play Thad at three for nothing it seems.
Lou for 3!
Bad offense. Lou bails them out with a deep three.
Man, Jrue is 20 yrs old. Play him, he can't be tired.
Wash is going to be in the penalty with like 7 minutes left at this rate. Get Jrue back in, please.
JRUE!!!!!!!!!! and 1.
Good head fake by Jrue. And 1!
How about some defense, now?
I'm fine with Blatche shooting those.
Lou has been huge tonight. Really good. Little slack a few times on Hinrich but passable for the most part.
I love these fucking idiots. "Wow, Blatche has 17 points. He's really in a groove." Pay no attention to the 18 shots it's taken him to get them.
Good pass, Jrue off the p and r w/ EB>
Great help by Brand that time. No weak-side help, though.
5 pt lead. Stops. stops. stops.
Just Jrue and Brand, that's all they need on offense. Don't fuck around.
Jrue and EB working well and we go to ET on a post up? wtf
Wow. Sick fucking drive by Jrue on the baseline.
and he tucked it in with the left again
wow
huge play
At least he got ET out of there for Noc down the stretch here.
Lou for 3 after they come out in zone!
Play of the game right there by Jrue.
Go on Lou, with your bad self tonight.
Terrible call. Superstar treatment for the Dougie, I guess.
Give the ball back to Jrue, please.
Dagger Thad!
ET w/ only 8 min in 2nd half.
Thad w/ 18 min in 2nd half.
Smart man, Doug.
Yeah that was clearly the call of the game, you fucking douche bag. It had nothing to do with Jrue stepping up and taking over the game.
Well, if you're going to have one great quarter, make it the fourth.
Final: PHI 109, 97
Speights making a case for starting spot.
injured Hawes looks absolutely pathetic.
John Wall is a one trick pony.
'tis a damn fine trick though.
nice to get a win again.
Hawes has been pathetic all year, his back probably isn't fully healed though but we don't like athletes who don't play hurt - no matter how much it makes them suck extra
We clearly won that game at nothing but the line.
Glad he ran Thad and Lou the whole last quarter.
What can you say about Lou and Jrue tonight? Polar opposites of the previous game vs NOH. A little rest in your own bed and some familiar kitty-kat - works wonders.
Damn, I had to miss 2nd half, got back just in time to see lou do an interview.
Was the play better in the 2nd half?
Jrue was sick in the fourth quarter, and Lou caught fire right at the end. Third quarter was kind of blah.
crap the bulls just lost on a vujacic putback with 5 sec left in jersey. they're gonna come into town pissed friday.
The Sixers should be more pissed after the game in Chicago. I'm hoping for a fist fight...well, hoping for a Sixers win first, then a fist fight.
http://www.depressedfan.com/basketball/sixers/new-commenting-policy.php
Unless you're doing it Brian under an alias, then I'm not sure why you're not getting a hold of this. There's just no place for that childish-ass immature crap. It's very teenage-esque. And sort of funny too coming from a cowardly grown man, lol.
Damn, not one typo in that post. I must've read it over a couple times.
Anyway, you're right. No need to call EH a fucking douche. But the bit about Jrue taking over is true as well. (assuming you're referring to the comment from Michael T.)
I didn't mean any disrespect to Mr. Heady's, I'm just a little tired of his obsession with Evan Turner when he shouldn't even be in the conversation. I'm not even a huge Turner fan (wanted Favors in the draft), but I'm pretty sure eddie's has a voodoo doll of Turner in his room.
Oh, and I don't comment under aliases. Not sure how I'd have the time.
Yes you're right Mr. eddie's heady's, I am a coward. I am hiding behind the obviously fake name of Michael T.
Video: Lou Williams after scoring 12 of his 26 points in fourth quarter during victory over Wizards:
http://ow.ly/3z6wq
Well, in rookie news, Favors got his first start, picked up 4 fouls in just 9 minutes, but did get 7 and 5 in those 9 minutes. Ed Davis, 8 and 7 on 3 shots, along with 3 blocks. Pretty much all of his offense has been put-backs and dunks, but I'm still surprised that he's been this good after looking flummoxed by the college game at times last year.
