The Sixers will take the floor in front of a sellout crowd tonight at the WFC hoping to make their first mark on the 2011 NBA Playoffs. Can they pull it together and push Miami, or will the landslide that started in game two continue in Philly? Only one way to find out.

Lineups

  • PG: Jrue Holiday vs. Mike Bibby
  • SG: Jodie Meeks vs. Dwyane Wade
  • SF: Andre Iguodala vs. LeBron James
  • PF: Elton Brand vs. Chris Bosh
  • C: Spencer Hawes vs. Zydrunas Ilgauskus

The tip is at 8pm. This is your game thread. I'm going to be at the game, Section 103, Row 21 if you're there as well. If you're watching from home, keep it as civil as you can. Down 2-1 sounds a lot more respectable than down 3-0, let's hope they show up.

If anyone is headed to the WFC, let's meet up outside Finnegan's Wake at the half (outside section 105, I think)

Heh do you gotta be 21?

Damn, geekness, I wish local tv ratings for cable were readily accessible. Another great comparison night. Phillies game is west coast late so sixers game will be closer to finished. Wonder how many (if any) switch over and it pulls a better number locally

Pissed, wanted to buy my son a Jrue jersey, all they had was Turner and Speights. A few Thad road jerseys.

Someone in marketing or operations needs to be fired, can't be out of jersey's came playoff time.

Hope you get to enjoy a great game.

I had a really bad feeling about game 2. But for this one I don't have any sense of how it will turn out. Should be interesting and informative.

It just occurred to me that, of all the series, ours has been by far the least competitive. Indiana's given Chicago a tough time both games, same for New York against Boston, Denver maybe should have won Game 1 if not for a bad call, and everything else is split. Currently, we're playing like the worst team in the playoffs. I guess you could say Miami's playing like the best, but I'm not sure that OKC hasn't played better basketball.

Spoelstra's pregame media session was brief and ended before it was supposed to start (6:15). Walked into interview room and he was done.

Collins talking at 6:45 and coommish David Stern at 7:30.

J.R. Smith, who Brian has expressed guarded interest about in the past, says he probably won't return to Denver:

http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_17901418

Iggy looks good from 3 in warmupsh

Yeah, good to see him out there. He's been limited by the knee

Battie's doing a lot of pregame work. My bet is that he's in for hawes early tonight if Hawes starts slow.

Iggy hater one row below me. Says he will yell at Collins to take him out.

Maybe you should accidentally spill your drink on him : )

A dangerous proposition in this day and age - could lead to unwanted violence

That is the truth. Plus you don't want to waste a perfect drink on an Iggy hater.

Yeah, he is bigger than me......

Look for kids in the area, listen for cursing, and then just talk to security. Comcast cares about their image.

:)

Hows the turnout so far? Is there a lot of Heat jerseys in the crowd?

Video: Collins pregame on Sixers playing at home and trying to get Iguodala involved:

Mr Moore

This is a stupid question, but does your paper have any subscription access to local (Philadlephia) TV ratings.

I'm curios to see how the monday game (when the phillies had a game at the same time) and tonights game score in the philadelphia tv area. (Hell there might even be a subject matter in there if the ratings tell a story of how the phillies are more popular in their first month than the sixers in the playoffs)

I'm interested in this too. I'm actually just interested in sports TV ratings in general, by league, by team, etc. It's weird how this is so hard to find.

Flyers were on at the same time on Monday as well.

I'm feeling a great burst of AWESOMENESS from Hawes tonight! If not, even I say, put in Battie early. But I think Hawes will be bringing it.

Collins pregame: 'I'm the eternal optimist':

http://bit.ly/ecyhfs

Chuck- Tonight should be a 10-15 point Heat victory.

Regardless of the probable outcome of this series, I'm excited to get a home playoff game where the building is (hopefully) buzzing. These guys have earned it.

Hooray, Hawes second rebound!!

I called it on the Spence! Sick start!

7-0 start! Three jumpers.

Hawesome start.

They are doing a relatively good job on the D boards so far, except for the one Hawes fumbled. That's going to be huge, especially when Joel Anthony comes in.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

That was offensive goaltending on Z.

Come on Hawes, BIG Z CANT GET O BOARDS.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Meeks with his second steal!

EB gives up another board to Big Z. Those guys have to man up.

Jrue with a bucket and Jodie with a steal though.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Hawes block!??!!! haha

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue - please keep going to the rim like that.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Thank goodness, no Speights, Battie in.

All in all, not bad by Hawes. Early Battie time.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Um, who did EB call himself guarding on that play?

Battie was guarding two guys. Even after the ball was kicked back out.

Lou for Meeks. I actually like it. Let's see if Lou can feed off the crowd.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

There you go Lou. To the rack.

Nice take by Lou.

Jrue's just gotta compete against Wade.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue 3!

What did Z do to Lou when he went over his back for that board? Lou stayed down court and was bent over.

It's good to see Lou hit his first shot. I think we need good Lou tonight.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Similar to game 1 - initial burst of energy, let's see how much it wanes off (or sustains) as the bench continues to trickle in.

What was the point of that time out? We finally got the momentum back and DC stops it. Ughhhh.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dag, didn't Iguodala look disinterested in that huddle?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Not a good shot from Jrue on the baseline there.

and they answer w/ a Bibby 3. big sequence there.

Lou for 3!!!!!!!!!!

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

OK, heck of a quarter but that doesn't mean squat.

We've gotten our tails handed to us in the 2nd quarters of both games. Basically where the games have been decided. Time for these bench guys to show they have a pair.

Let's go!!

Ball and player movement, please. None of this getting into offense late in the clock stuff. Move and swing it early.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Come on Evan, getting beat backdoor. Had his back turned to the ball. That's a no-no.

I don't know why Iguodala doesn't play every minute LeBron does.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Come on Evan, you had no look there.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good, he got Andre in there for Evan. Let him guard LBJ since Spo plays him extended minutes into 2nd quarter.

Turnover LBJ!

2 fouls on iggy...
he cant pick up his 3rd

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

ugh, that's 2 fouls on Dre.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Whoever passed that to Meeks should have got a shot up. Bad coming out of a timeout.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good hands by Thad on Wade for the steal. Jrue's lucky they're giving him 2 at the line, he looked to be trying to pass it.

Annndddd Jrue missed both. ugh ugh ugh

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Since Hawes was OK, wonder if he gets an extended run before the half?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

If we get one of these fast break dunks, the crowd is ready to explode. Wish we'd get one so the guys can feed off of it.

Seems almost impossible against this team. That was as good a chance as we're gonna get and Thad got hacked.

Anthony won't let Thad do anything. Thad's keeping his head in the game, though.

You'd think Thad could take him from the elbow, no? Anthony can't stay with him the further they give Thad the ball from the basket?

Yeah, but they close so fast.

True, didn't consider that.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

There's the 1st bull foul call, on Thad. That was a cheapie.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Well darn, Thorn, DiLeo and Chris Ford (and maybe Courtney Witte) are up in the booth. Where's Stefanski? He better leave those ribs at Chili's alone....

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Elton, can't you at least throw a token hand up on that Bosh elbow J? COme on...

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good damn shot Jrue. Got his feet under him and good stroke and release. for 3!!!

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

SHit, Jrue wasn't set and rushed his next 3 and Wade gets a beauty of an outlet pass from LBJ for an and-one.

another big sequence off another bad shot from Jrue.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Alright, 3 min left and still up 2.

Just. Finish. Strong. here. please.

Huge make by Jodie. And Lou actually ran the point well.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jo-3!

#showyaluv

ll_ !

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Yeah, good hands Evan.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Please someone get on James Jones and close out quicker. He's not going to drive. Shit!

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dammit Evan! EB bailed you out w/ the o-board.

ugh Wade with a circus shot and-one. It was Evan's fault going for the ball on LBJ at top of key and letting him get by him.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Still up 2. Oh what I'd give for those two James Jones' threes not to be on the board that he made on consecutive possession w/ under 2 min left. We'd be up 8, shoot....

Man I hate that guy. He's like Eddie House - can't do anything except shoot and doesn't have to because of the team he's on.

I hate what he's doing now, but I've always wanted us to get him on our team through the years. Just always liked his limited ability and what it can do for a team.

You hate John Paxson?

I cannot believe we are only up 2 points. After all of that. Ugh.

Too many missed shots on good looks in the 2nd qtr. They need to make those just to make it close. Fortunately, the defense was good. Wade's playing great and they still stoned him 3 or 4 times and made him work for shots.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Agree, EB missed some sweep spot shots.

These halftime adjustments are going to be crucial, cause you know Spo is getting input from James and Wade on what they can do to counter DC's defensive gameplan.

Bosh hasn't killed us either.

ET's been playing really good d, in spite of the errors. I'd say put him on Wade, but Wade is too fast. Maybe Jodie will step up.

They were getting into the paint in the 1st, then went away from it. I'd like to see them go back to that plan - early offense. The more Miami digs in, the harder it is for us to get a shot.

Talk a little bit about that.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Andre's not giving us anything again tonight. He just HAS to score for us to have a chance.

If Iguodala averages single digits for the series (if he scores 6 tonight, as he's on pace to, he'll be at 5 ppg), and the fans don't completely turn on him, it would mark a real change in the fanbase's appreciation and understanding of his game. A few years ago, this sort of showing would have gotten him run out of town.

I've pretty much given up hope on AI scoring. Or even making a shot.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Really didn't seem like Wade had 18 pts that half. Just don't remember him going off like that even with remembering his 6 trips to the line.

Game's started and TNT is at a damn commercial!! Come on!!

Because of that fucking bonus coverage. How can it be bonus coverage when you're taking away coverage?

The poor Pacers have now lost every game in the last seconds. This one was tied with 33 to go. They've lost by 5, 6 and 4.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

No he didn't!! Hawes with the under the hoop dunk? huh?

Dre set him up for it. Hawes looked like he was trying to find a way to blow it, but just couldn't!

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Whoa Nellie! Jrue gets a foul call on a drive. Make em count kid.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue 4 3 !!!!! Let's go guys!!!

They went on 6-0 run, we're on a 12-0 run.

Great ball movement leading to a Jrue bomb. Hawes did all right there getting the ball inside then making a nice pass. Just a huge shot by Jrue.

What a run guys

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dammit, that's like the 4th putback for Z. shucks....

Z is owning the boards. Box out!

user-pic
eddies' heady's replied to comment from Alvin +/-

They really can't, b/c they're having to give rim help when Wade breaks contain. Hawes is doing a good job of coming over but it's leaving Z untouched just camping out under the rim.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dre putback slam!

Looked like it might have been on the rim still. damn close

Hawes block!! He's had really good runs both times. ugh Spence should have shot that to get to the line but was, as usual, looking to pass when he was fouled.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue messed up there. He should have just went ahead and fouled LBJ before he shook him w/ the dribble and pass to Wade for slam. It would have been a side-out. ugh

damn those were 2 careless possessions.

Now what? The Heat get a demoralizing fast break and stripping the ball on every possession. Let's see what Collins does after this TO.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dammit. Bad possession out of timeout. No ball movement. Jrue just held it for around 8 seconds.

Lou in, maybe he can get his.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Get Jodie a look running off some screens. He's got Bibby on him

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Dammit Spencer!! Grab the damn ball, letting Bibby take it...

Doug was livid after that too...

Did Spencer thing Bibby was a teammate or something on that one?

Get the boards, God damn it.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Where was that foul on Lou? huh???

Did Lou touch him? I couldn't see.

No. It's so ridiculous when that kind of thing is called and there are collisions that don't draw a whistle. How did Lou get an advantage on that? It was a missed layup.

Get Jodie out.

Alright nice.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Thad fakes LeBron but meets Anthony

Anthony = Thad stopper

Ball don't lie

WTF Young. Seriously.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Good job Lou for the two-for-one. Just get a stop!!

Meeks back in. Vomit. Worst starting SG in playoff history?

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

OK, we win played that quarter even. Not bad.

Bench guys have to extend this lead here and not relinquish it.

Please find a way to unleash Thad. Please? ...... Or let Andre score. We need one more guy to score more to bring this home.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

You're shitting me. Bosh drops a prayer at the buzzer. Shit

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Crucial time here. Down 3. 8+ left. Have to be smart or it will get away quickly.

I'd say run like hell off every defensive board, just try to get any early offense you can. Don't let them set their D.

We have to get the defensive board, first and foremost. And that seems tough as hell to do so far.

The Sixers need to be mentally tough here. Can't let this game slip away.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Don't need Dre three's at this point....sheesh

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Come on Elton, foul the guy when you see he's going to get a good look like that. Damn...

can't win a game when you're giving up offensive rebounds left, right and centre.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Trying to keep the faith but, Andre is just atrocious at getting his offense again and Thad is on lockdown again by this Anthony guy.

Who woulda thunk it???? arrggghhhh

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Doug: "If we don't defensive rebound we can't win, we've given them 9 o-boards in 2nd half. 7 in 3rd and 2 in this quarter so far."

oh come on guys.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Bosh J. ugh

SHit, terrible play by ANdre. just forced that shit for no reason....dammit

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Doug takes Andre out.....heh

Spencer we don't need that man.....

We need Jrue to take charge here

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

That's 3 shots for Lou, come on....

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Lou missed first of three free throws....

My faith just went out the window with other various objects....

and the third

Make them Lou

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

4 min left and we've got 5, FIVE, points this quarter.

Dre makes one, FINALLY

What the flying fuck Lou

We need a scorer...... Badly.......

The rebounding seems to be a far bigger concern.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Thad with his 1st bucket with one and a half left.....ugh

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Andre....pick the ball up before you try to run with it....

Get a couple of stops. Somehow.

And that's the clincher - Miami picks O-board #20 off the floor. Jesus.

Defense and rebounding, the keys to winning. In the 4th quarter, there's really been neither.

Shame.

user-pic
eddies' heady's replied to comment from Rich +/-

agree with this but....it's still been basically a two possession game even with those atrocities. We just couldn't score for crap, no one could hit or get a shot to go in this quarter.

We just wilted on offense after playing them even for 3 quarters. Missed crucial timely free throws too in this quarter.

Yeah, those 2 misses by Lou were big. Mental toughness is LACKING.

Lou's always been a pretty crappy clutch FT shooter to the naked eye.

I just think it's when you have to play a perfect offensive game to beat a team, it wears on you.

Don't protect the defensive glass, don't win, not really a hard concept. They are worse on the glass tonight then I think they were in either of the other games. Barely above 50% at this juncture (20/42). That's pathetic basketball.

What this series does more than anything (so far) is demonstrate what a fracking weakness the sixers have in rebounding and how easy it is to exploit even by Ilgauskis and Bosh.

MUST BE PRIORITY this off season

Turner is one of our better rebounders and he basically didn't play, so one again, Collins you stink.

That's some funny shit right there. A guy that averages 3+ boards a game is "one of your better rebounders". lol

Per minute, yeah.

Out of the rotation guys, he's in a virtual lock with Brand on the defensive glass. Third best qualifies as one of the better rebounders.

LeBron's on place to play 44 minutes. No shit he's gonna cramp Spolestra.

Damn I miss Sam. No way they outboard us by 20 if he plays.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Jrue with another killer game wasted. Andre not giving him the support he needed, again. Thad just completely stifled from his easy-to-be-stopped repertoire.

And those damn thingies called rebounds. Didn't some writer or either Brian mention before this series that it shouldn't be hard to board vs this team because of their supposedly weak frontline?

Maybe that didn't include LeBron because he had his season high in boards tonight. Did Andre really fail to keep a body on him that much for him to get that many? I mean, he was responsible for him damn near every play right? (those that have DVR could help with this)

It's always hard to board in the playoffs. The Sixers don't have anybody who works at it. Brand's pretty good, but he gets beaten to the ball a lot.

What was that thing you guys had on your scoreboard earlier in the year..? Something about "see you in the playoffs Boston-come back so we can eliminate you?" How'd that work out?

I wish we would have played your sorry ass team. Great win over the Reno Bighorns! Showed a lot of character denying Jared Jeffries.

Are you going to be rooting for Perkins after Round 2?

Don't be so cocky, Beaner. The Knicks are gonna eliminate you.

you can gloat but I suggest you worry about yourselves (Boston). You guys are next in line to face that un-godly athleticism.

They're gonna need Rondo to score 50 to beat Miami.

They're going to need Rondo to score a lot to win this series. Those were about the two most uninspiring wins you can have.

It's insane that they rely on him for scoring. They have Paul Pierce for Christ's sake.

user-pic
eddies' heady's +/-

Just hope the silver lining in this series will be the front office seeing the glaring weaknesses and limited ability of some of our players, and the non-fit of others, and make some wise decisions this offseason, for once.

Hope Stefanski was getting wasted at Chili's tonight and doesn't have any input in it...

Ha. Thanks for making me laugh to wrap up a long hard night.

I just hope they are smart about spending money. No short-term solutions.

Also, if Hawes is on this team next year for anything more than the league minimum, I'm really going to flip shit.

There is no "fit" when you have a medicore team. They have a definite keeper in Jrue, promising players in Meeks and Thad (depending on who you talk to), and an unknown in Turner (despite your creepy hatred for him there is not a soul on this planet who knows what he will turn in to. You are not smarter than basketball experts all over the country that predicted he will be a good to really good NBA player. Time will tell). Every player on this team should be available in a good trade offer.

Thad won't be - he's a restricted FA. I think Collins really wants to keep him, but nobody's certain to be here next year, not even Jrue.

I fail to remember when we met since you know how "smart" I am. Lol!

There's ALWAYS 'fit' when you are constructing a team, especially in basketball. That doesn't take much smarts, lol.

Just use your more frequented screen name...it's OK...you're only fooling yourself....hahahahah

BTW, Turner's still garbage so don't get all riled up by my "smartness" when you are in almost agreeance, or will be in due time.

What's his other screen name?

I'm not sure what he's talking about, I've only commented a dozen times or so on this site and it's usually to call him a jerk off. I read this blog all the time but I rarely comment.

My point was that you don't worry about fit when the majority of your team is mediocre. They need way more talent on this squad so aside from PG, I would be looking to get help at every position.

Amazing that in a series where one team has Lebron/Wade/Bosh... the biggest impact mismatch has been at the center position. Sure the 3 stars have outplayed Iguodala/Jrue/Brand- but not to the degree that the Sxier centers have been destroyed when you compare their impact on the boards and defensive ends.

With the effort the Sixers gave in game 1 and 3 they almost definitely would have won at least one of those games if Sam was on the team. I joke about Bismack... but they need some stud defensive big or they will never be able to go toe to toe against a team in the playoffs.

user-pic
eddies' heady's replied to comment from tk76 +/-

Yep, would have been nice to take a chance on one with last year's pick. Or traded out of that slot to grab other picks to take one later on. Or trade that pick for one in the league already. Anything to get one on the team since they had to know they were shipping Sam.

Tell me why they traded Sam again???? So we could have a center who can shoot wide-open 18-footers?

Despite contrary opinions, Sam wanted to go himself. And when a guy doesn't want to be here for that long of a time, it's time for him to go. Without even mentioning his non-dedication to becoming a better player.

That's pretty amazing. We made Joel Anthony look like Bill Russell.

Bismack?

Bismack will probably end up top 5 after his hype machine crests. But regardless, they need a defensive center with a pulse.

Heck, I'd gladly welcome back Sam... I'd even take Joel Anthony if he was available :)

I was asking because I've never heard of Bismack. In about 2 days, I'll know all about him, cuz it's time to start checkin' out the mock drafts. Ugh, too early for that.

Let me make it simple. Read this link:
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Bismack-Biyombo-5902/

The guy was a second rounder a few weeks ago. Now he might go top 5. He went from unknown to leading the Spanish ACB league (the best league after the NBA) in blocks and rebounds/minute and put up a triple double against the top US U18's at the Nike Hoops summit. Made some top college prospects look like children. Sort of a cross between Serge Ibaka and Mutumbo but with even less offensive polish :)

Heh. Worse hands than Mutombo? Thanks.

Not worse hands. Just absolutely zero experience. Sort of like drafting Lebron for the Autralian rules football league. You know he'd turn out great, but he would be more than a little clueless for a while.

Funny. His physique is pretty similar to LeBron's actually. 6'8" and jacked, with ultra-long arms. And it looks like he'd be able to guard 3s with a little coaching.

Started playing in high school, and he's probably 18. So he's been playing for 2 years or so. Well, he'd improve our rebounding from day one, that's for sure.

How do we know he's not more like Thabeet, Saer Sene, or Petro? Actually, I guess the hope would be that he has that kind of downside so that he could slip to us and we could take the chance.

Those guys all had questions about heart. Bismack has a very high bust potential as well, but by all accounts he is a tremendously "high motor" type guy. He also is not a tall gu who thinks he is a guard or a jump shooter. He legitimately just wants to dominate on defense.

Listen to his interviews, The guy is the son of a state official and very articulate. He talks about trying to stick with the areas where he can dominate and then maybe down the road rounding out his game. He is like the reverse of Sam when it comes to his personality.

TK, you sure like this guy, huh?

Nah. Just looking for some miracle that gets the Sixers a defensive force in the frontcourt...

I wasn't aware of Sene's heart problems, and I believe Thabeet is articulate too. (I know that's not really your point, I just thought these Thabeet interview quotes were funny.) For example:

BC: Your story on how you got into basketball makes it sound like you got into basketball by accident and not by passion or love to the game. What do you say about that?

Thabeet: ... I wouldn’t call my involvement with basketball today an “accident” but rather a normal process of sportsmanship.

BC: What is one thing that people don’t know about you?

HT: Ahahha, ok I’m so amiable, I’m so up to date, I’m funny, friendly, smart and neat and a lot of good stuff.

BC: When you say the American lifestyle what exactly do you mean or refer? Could you be specific?

HT: Yeah you know the hip hop culture, baggy jeans, joking around too much, not taking advantage of the opportunities they have etc.

No offense to most Americans especially the youth but to be honest they have so much opportunities but they don’t seem to be seriously taking advantage of them. For example, they have all these nice and fabulous sports facilities that are not fully utilized. The younger ones here could start training for whatever sport they choose at a very young age while surrounded by lots of support. Imagine if I had a chance to train in these kinds of facilities since when I was a young boy. Or imagine if some people in Tanzania had all these facilities and opportunities. You know what I am trying to say?

BC: Have you thought about what you might use your psychology degree for?

HT: A psychology degree can lead one into so many directions. But on my side, I am intending to use it by helping a lot of kids in Tanzania who are not school especially orphans. That is my goal. I am therefore planning to establish an NGO which will help me in addressing that critical need.

He's very intelligent that's for sure. And he's a natural leader, apparently - vocal on the court despite so little experience. You can tell right away that he loves life in the paint.

I think Ben Wallace is a better comparison. He'll be the best shot blocker in the league for as long as he's in it.

Right now, I'd take Calvin Booth.

On a bright note, Jrue was awesome again tonight, and that's 2 out of 3 games. Good to see him step up in a big spot offensively.

Now only if we can see him in a playoff series where he doesn't have to guard a 1st Team All-NBA two guard.

He was tremendous. He shot the ball like Ray Allen.

Yeah, Jrue stepping up on the big stage is a major silver lining for this otherwise lost series. He'll never have as tough of match-up defensively nor have to carry so much of the load as he has this series. And he has kept his head about him and really cut down on bad turnovers as well as canned some big shots. Definitely feel comfortable with Jrue as a Sixers for the next 12-14 years.

Joel Anthony is saving the Sixers some serious millions this summer. Because the difference between what they were going to have to pay Thad after game one and after today is quite a lot of cash saved :)

In a weird way, that is a good thing.

Joel Anthony did not "expose" Thad as a lesser player. he is just kryptonite to Thad's quickness and length. Other team's don't have a guy who can do that- and if the Sixers actually had a legit center then Joel Anthony would not be on him anyways.

you're making his point.
unstoppa-Thad was going to cha-ching it, if he kept game 1 performance up through the series.

oops I meant regular season not game 1. i'm remembering his really good games late in the season.

I'm stunned at how well Anthony has moved his feet. He forced Thad to shoot mid-range jumpers, which contrary to popular belief (Kerr said it tonight), are not really improving from his rookie year. Sure he improved from last year, but he wasn't good at all. He still gets to the rim easy against 95 percent of the lead. Anthony has the quickness, explosiveness and strength to block his shot. Impressive.

add Haslem and Jones and you have a nice core of hustling sidekicks to the big two.

Well, Anthony isn't the answer at center. He is a pretty horrible player to be honest. He played well tonight and that is cool, but that doesn't change the fact that he doesn't contribute anything but shot blocking.

Now if Miami gets Sammy D or some other NBA-level center who fits... watch out.

I agree but I once thought that garbage guys who do only one thing great, would not be enough to get them anywhere.
I am not so sure now.

Has Thad gotten better at much since his rookie year? He really just shoots it a little more than he did as a rookie. The rest of his numbers show no improvement really. He still never gets to the line...

I have a hard time remembering how his defense was his rookie year.

Tough tough game to win three quarters and still lose, but:

- do we win that one if Battie is in for Spencah during the 3rd/4th Qs?

- PLEASE tell me they showed the ginormous GO SIXERS guy on the TV broadcast!!

Sixers only won one quarter and tied one.

Another thing that bothered me from the game concerning Iguodala - that play where LeBron stripped him in the lane and went the other way and shook Jrue with the dribble for a pass to Wade for a slam - Iguodala should be downright ashamed at the piss poor half-hearted jog back down court to get back into the play, which he could have easily done with just a semblance of a sprint. Especially with the play slowing down some when LeBron lost his balance after faking Jrue with his dribble. Andre could have affected that play with a block on Wade's attempt, or a possible steal when LeBron threw the pass to Wade, or at a minimum fouled Wade and sent him to the line.

Just a crappy disinterested non-caring effort on that particular play, which he was responsible for since he turned it over. I would venture a guess he's on wavelength-Sam when it comes to still playing here. If that is so, send him on his way too.

This seems like an overreaction.

Watch the play for yourself then.

I was at the game tonight and have a few things to report: 1) The Sixers looked well prepared for this one. Doug had them ready! 2) I sat down near the court and had the pleasure to converse with Lou's Mom. She is an absolute sweetheart. 3) I was seated right next to a "Heat" fan. He started out being semi annoying and worked his way to absolute Pain in the Ass status in no time. The dude behind me threw him down in his seat and Lou's Mom called Security (who mediated like it was a grade school argument). 4) I really can't be that upset. I'm happy we made it here (after the start of the season) and I hope management saw all they needed to see to make some changes to this roster.

In the words of the great Dennis Green "they are what we thought they were!"
