The Sixers will look to ride their emotional win over a floundering Warriors squad into our nation's capital tonight to take on a grossly overrated 18-win Wizards team. John Wall (.496 career TS%) vs. Evan Turner (.483 career TS%), a matchup of the worst #1 and #2 pick combination in the history of the NBA draft. Exciting stuff!
There's a reason the Sixers are the third-worst offensive team in the league. Two reasons, actually. Charlotte and Washington. The Wizards do absolutely nothing at even an average level on the offensive side of the ball. They've got a couple of guys who can hurt you once in a while, though Nene is listed as questionable and I'm not sure where the boner for Beal is coming from. Defensively, though, the Wiz have figured things out.
Okafor anchors the #5 defense in the league. Ariza and Martell Webster do a fine job on the wings and John Wall's athleticism can be disruptive at the point of attack. If the Sixers can work to get the same type of looks they got last night against the Warriors, they should win this game pretty easily. If they fall back on their long-twos, don't push the ball into the paint and spread the floor, it's going to be an ugly, ugly slog. Probably unwatchable.
The key to defending Washington is really just encouraging John Wall to shooting them right out of the game. Don't foul him. See if you can get him to shoot broken jumpers and be ready to collect his turnovers. The ball will be in his hands, which works in your favor.
The tip is at 6pm. This is your game thread. I'll be here throughout. Join me if you're up for two in a row!
