In expected news, the Sixers have exercised their team options on Jrue Holiday (3rd-year option) and Marreese Speights (4th-year option). They also cut ties with both Trent Plaisted and Chris Quinn, trimming the roster to 14. They'll probably go to war with these guys and leave the final roster spot open for flexibility/cheapness, depending on your level of annoyance with the front office.
It's pretty much a no-brainer to pick up the options on a first-round pick unless the guy is just an unbelievable bust who was drafted fairly high (like Joe Alexander, for example). Rest assured, Sixers fans, Jrue isn't going anywhere.
The sand is quickly running out of the hourglass on the extension period for RFAs-to-be, Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes. Those guys can be extended until Nov. 1st, then not again until July 8th. November 1, 2010 cannot get here soon enough for me.
