Bob Cooney has the scoop. "Sixers officials" will apparently meet with Avery Johnson on Monday. I'm not sure who "Sixers officials" are, but you'd assume if Ed Stefanski isn't there, something may be up. Quick thoughts and a flash poll after the jump.
Avery has been with ESPN since being tossed out of Dallas. As the Mavs head coach he did coach them to two 60-win seasons and an NBA Finals appearance. That's the good news. The bad news: His Mavericks team completely blew an NBA championship to the Miami Heat (possibly with the help of the refs), the following year they got bounced in the first round by the #8 seed (and he was completely exposed by his former mentor, Don Nelson in that series, IMO), then in his last season the Mavs managed to win only one game in the first round after a 50-win season.
Vote in the poll, some quick thoughts below:
Something about Avery rubs me the wrong way, and I think it wound up rubbing his players the wrong way as well. You can't argue with his defensive resume. You can definitely find a ton of fault with his playoff record. All things considered, I'd rather go in another direction.
Vote in the poll and leave your Avery Johnson thoughts in the comments.
