If the pistons were trying to win they wouldn't beat the sixers - they stinks

How is Dumars not on the hot seat in Detroit? Chauncey Billups for Ben Gordon and Charlie V. That's essentially what he did.

Won a ring as a GM and player? Buys you some leeway

Plus - honestly - in detroit - the pistons are like so far down on the list of concerns - even if they were winning could they really fill it up - that city / area is an economic disaster

And oh yeah - for sale - can't shake things up too much for perspective buyers unless you're going fire sale

Why is Gordon shooting 30% from beyond?

He shot over 40% every single one of his first 5 seasons.

Weird stuff there.

Big Ben is having a pretty darn good season for his age. Jerebko isn't too bad, either.

Ben Gordon is asked to do too much in Detroit -

If he was available over the summer and you do it keeping Iggy, would ya?

JohnEMagee reply to deepsixersuede on Apr 6 at 18:32

I don't know - he's a pretty bad defensively liability - and i've always thought he's a very strong sixth man - but the sixers have a pretty good sixth mman already

He's a much better fit as a 6th man than any of our current slop, though (both being a better fit talent wise and being an overall better player).

If it wasn't for the contract I'd have interest.

user-pic
JohnEMagee reply to Derek Bodner on Apr 6 at 18:43

Well i was factoring in his contract when thinking about it - he's paid a lot for sixth man detail :)

If Detroit is desperate to move him, would you do Willie/Kapono for Gordon?

It would depend on the draft for me, if we get a legit big, like luck out and get Favors, I'd consider it. He's the type of guy who you could start between Jrue and Iguodala.

JH, BG, AI9, Favors, Dalembert. Brand, Speights, Thad, Lou off the bench.

I would rather move Lou and his longer contract out (would have 3 years left after this season) than the expiring deal of Willie Green. Plus, I don't think you can have Gordon and Lou on the court at the same time, ever. hahaha

I agree. Not sure if teams will see Willie's expiring contract as a more valuable asset than Lou, though.

He could start at the two between AI9 and Jrue, assuming the bigs are at least decent defensively.

What about Ben Gordon at the 2 for the Sixers? Like it or not? Could probably be had for Kapano and Lou Williams (salaries about even out)? Gives Pistons some salary flexibility and the Sixers get a legit scorer.

Brian to answer your earlier question ("Tom, you've been around the team for a long time. Is this the worst season in terms of expectations (realistic or not) and results? I can't think of anyone who predicted the Sixers would be more than a game our two out of the playoffs, at worst. Now they're fighting for 4th-worst record in the league") from the other post --

Yes, it's probably the worst season in that respect (started covering the Sixers in 1988). I think I predicted 36 wins and they're probably headed for 28 or 29. I was also disappointed in 2008-09 after the Sixers, on the heels of signing Brand, had to really come on in the second half just to get to 41-41.

Out of town for a few days and not on the laptop as much as usual.

As for Gordon, I had wondered about a trade of Iguodala for Gordon a year ago, but the Bulls already had Deng so Iguodala would've been somewhat redundant.

user-pic
JohnEMagee reply to Tom Moore on Apr 6 at 18:52

Sorry Tom - but that's a horrible trade idea - straight up the bulls get the much better more complete player

This is the game they picked for HD on league pass? Seems odd to me, but I'll take it.

per Kate Fagan on Twitter, Thad may be done for the season, decision coming tonight.

Here we go, samme starters. Wrist bands for Jrue.

Kapono needs to take that shot.

JohnEMagee reply to Brian on Apr 6 at 19:14

Take that shot or be shot?

11-game losing streak is Detroit's second longest of the season, that's a quality season for you, folks.

I wonder how much Kuester is to blame and if he'll ever get another job :)

Good question. New coach + new roster makes it tough to assign blame. It's not like he took a playoff team and turned them into a joke :)

easier to replace the coach than the players
and gives dumars a scape goat

Man, what a defensive play by Jrue. Completely read that move by Stuckey and stripped him on the way up.

20 points in 6 minutes for this Pistons team. Hilarious.

thank god jrue got rid of those wrist bands....

I thought Kapono was going to dunk that for a second.

Ugh, Jrue picks up his second fouling a guy shooting an 18-footer. Good thing they don't have a mic on me.

Put Willie in for Iguodala and this is a perfect tanking lineup.

Meeks hit a shot, go figure.

Lou is so selfish. What an ego.

???

That's what I say whenever someone takes a bad three from now on.

If Jason Smith had human arms that shot would've been late.

Sixers down 2 after the first, 32-30.

Whoops, down 4. 34-30.

Lou, Meeks, Kapono, Speights, Smith. Yep, that's a tanking lineup and of course they're going on a run.

Meeks with 8 points already.

Big alligator with a block.

10 for Meeks, but at least he's losing Ben Gordon with regularity on the other end.

Fuck me. A dozen for Meeks.

Wow, nice inside give-and-go between Speights and Jrue, JH with the finish and Speights with the assist.

Wow.

The way NBA teams defend these days is a shame. Maybe I'm spoilt by that awesome NCAA championship game last night.

61-61 at the half. Defensive battle.

Guys, if you get Gordon and draft a big that a] can eventually start for a championship level team b]defend next to Marreese c] replace Elton in a year as a starter than what holes are there besides the bench. If Jrue, Gordon, Iggy, rookie big and a Sam/ Spieghts platoon are in place that group can play together and add a stud when Elton expires [contract that is].

JohnEMagee reply to deepsixersuede on Apr 6 at 20:19

Mareese Speights has shown nothing to indicate that he can start for a championship level team...

Getting Gordon is a nice idea, but people are blowing the impact out of proportion i believe - he's not a starter for a championship team either.

I think it's kind of ridiculous saying someone isn't a starter on a championship team. Antoine Walker was a starter on a championship team. Derek Fisher is complete garbage at this point, and he was a starter on a championship team. The list is pretty long.

It's not about the level of any player, it's about the collective skills of the group.

Nice drive by Jrue using his body to keep the shotblocker away from the ball.

Quick hook for Brand, Dalembert and Kapono. Let's see if the tanking lineup can actually tank.

nothing better to help break an 11 game skid than to play the sixers!

Jrue is probing and probing, no one else is even moving. I believe Jrue just picked up his fourth too.

That foul better be on Speights.

That may be a broken rib for Stuckey. I hope the Pistons rally around their fallen teammate.

Who's lazier, Speights or Charlie V?

I would say Charlie V, only because at least Speights fouls people hard.

The Pistons are going to score 120. This is awesome.

i am so happy the 5th spot is still up for grabs now

Now that was impressive, shame on all of you who thought the 76ers didn't know how to tank. That was a classic example of tanking.

That was spectacular. Looks like the Wiz will take the Warriors. 2 games separate the Sixers and the 5th-worst record. It could be 1 game to 6th place if Sacto can beat the Spurs tonight.

Eddie Jordan says he didn't play EB because of a lack of defensive awareness, energy, and effort. I think Brand is my most hated athlete in professional sports right now

What does Eie Joran know about defensive awareness? I'm surprised he's aware defense exists

For as bad as Jordan has been this year, Elton has been equally awful, maybe worse considering his contract. People seem to care that hes robbing the franchise because hes got a pleasant demeanor and is a "team guy" in the process

user-pic
JohnEMagee reply to johnrosz on Apr 6 at 21:51

Yeah - no one has said anything bad about Eltons play this year, you're right, no one in the entire world has said anything like Elton Brand has the most untradeable contract in the nba - no one locally or nationally.

Again - the amount of money a player is going to make in a season does not make them a better player...

he's playing for an idiot coach who throws him under the bus - constantly - to cover his own ass - he was good in the middle of the season when the sixers showed some life - but it's been apparent for a couple months this team sucks more than reality tv.

Should have shut him and iguodala down last week sometimes

user-pic
johnrosz reply to JohnEMagee on Apr 6 at 21:58

Wouldn't you say Iguodala has gotten much more criticism over the course of the season though? I don't think Eddie Jordan has anything to do with Elton being physically incapable of putting together a full game.

I agree about shutting both of them down, the Sixers are still new to tanking(they'll get better at it over the next 2 or 3 years).

I am amazed at how EJ is doing with this tanking. Meeks is hot, so he gets benched. Has to get Willie his minutes.

Does anybody know of a worse coach than Eddie Jordan (considering his team).

No defense. Partly due to no Sam.

Of course playing Kapono at PF...

Nice. Big win for the Knicks over the Celts. Sacto lost, though.
