Game 15 Thread: PHI @ TOR

bad news. Tom Moore reports No Brand tonight!

good news. Speights gets more minutes. Lets see if he brings another good effort tonight.

According to Preston76s twitter Thad to start, Brackins active might get minutes to help with Bargnani match up.

user-pic
tk76 reply to Jason on Nov 24 at 18:11

Boo. Start Speights already.

user-pic
Rich reply to tk76 on Nov 24 at 18:14
+/-

Speights was good in all areas except one last night- defensive boards. I am at the point that he will never box out anyone, ever. He just kept trying to outjump McGee and lost every time. He would play twice as much if he just put a body on him.

Speights is almost never good at defensive rebounds :)

The question is - does he out play Speights?

The sixers starters (especially in the third) just don't out perform.

Just going to suggest it again

Start Lou

user-pic
Jason reply to GoSixers on Nov 24 at 18:45
+/-

Over ET?

Yup

Start lou at 2 guard, if he's hot, ride him for a bit, if he's cold then pull him out and put in Evan, if he's real cold, keep him off the the court and see what Meeks has.

Kate Fagan on Twitter

No answer yet on his eventual return to CSN broadcast team, but Snow is out for tonight's game v. Raptors. Lynam in.

Looks like Thaddeus Young will be starting in place of Brand

Hope to see Jrue get back on track tonight.

Sloppy early. Thad may struggle with Bargnani.

Jumper for Dre, not a good shot.

I would love to see Jrue develop more of a middle game. He gets stuck going to the basket.

Meeks in for Turner early.

user-pic
johnrosz reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 19:22

just turned the game on. why the quick hook for ET?

Awful start, 13-4 Raps. Hawes returning to old form.

user-pic
Joe reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 19:25
+/-

Hawes has been just brutal.

user-pic
james reply to Joe on Nov 24 at 19:27
+/-

Didn't you hear? It's ok Hawes is a terrible basketball player because he had national guard members over his house. Apparently as long as you're a decent guy it doesn't matter how bad you suck.

Hawes being a republican lowers my respect for him quite a bit - but he sucks at basketball even if he were an intelligent american

Brutal start. One of either Nocioni or Lou williams needs to be on the court at all times, we need at least 1 player that is trying to score on the court at all time.

Sweet moves back to back by Jrue (pull up) and Meeks (and one drive!)

Should we have a poll... When will Hawes receive his first DNP-CD this season?

Sad defense from Lou there. No reason not to get out on Bayless there... he gave him a wide open 3 with 1 second left.

Lou doesn't play defense

user-pic
johnrosz on Nov 24 at 19:36
+/-

Why is Lou playing 3 feet off his man when theres 1 second left on the clock?

Awful quarter there. Lou;s defense on the last play was laughable. Looking like a Raptors blowout tonight.

Brackins looks fat

Hey at least, reggie is helping me out with rebounds

The Raptors had 11 rebounds in the first, Reggie had ten...

does anyone on the sixers even TRY to box out?

This is pitiful. 2 straight lay ups from Barbosa in the half court.

This is getting really embarrassing. Turner at the point here.

Turner at the oint with lou at the two - that won't go well

Had Brackins touched the ball yet and not shot?

He has taken 2 very bad shots and one very good one.

Brackins and Battie didn't know who was guarding who on that play. Wow.

At least Brackins can score a little.

HAHAHAHA look at this defense... LUDICROUS

They are getting layups in the half court over and over

user-pic
Rich reply to Joe on Nov 24 at 19:45
+/-

Brackins looks absolutely lost on that end.

And that's why he's been inactive all year :)

user-pic
Joe reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 19:46
+/-

2 very contested jumpers on the other end scare me as well.

ANother big man who doesn't play defense and shoots every time he touches the ball? Dude that's awesome :)

user-pic
Rich reply to Joe on Nov 24 at 19:49
+/-

He's a gunner, no doubt. Feeling it tonight though.

I'm listening to the Toronto feed and the announcer just said that the sixers got rid of Andre Miller to let Lou Williams take over at point guard and that the sixers are commited to Lou williams being their point guard......

user-pic
Joe reply to Jason on Nov 24 at 19:53
+/-

Nice... thanks for providing some sunshine to this rainy day.

user-pic
Rich reply to Jason on Nov 24 at 19:54
+/-

That wasn't even true before Jrue was here. Stefanski's body language when he was talking about Lou starting was weird and he called the Lou experiment "an opportunity."

Contest the 3 Brackins... what are you doing?

The Raptors might score 140 points tonight. Literally anything they want. Collins seems to be mad at Jrue, who wasn't playing great in his own right. Lou's defense has been unbelievably bad though, even for him.

Reggie is the biggest impact player on the floor right now

Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me Kleiza? That pass attempt was just insane.

Lou's shooting has been awful recently. He can't finish for shit. He's not the only one though.

This is the first game of this year that reminds me of last year. They really are playing no D tonight.

user-pic
Joe reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 20:06
+/-

Tonight does have that feeling.

The feeling I got last year when Sammy wasn't playing pretty much.

Collins still plays Lou a ton, even when he's anemic in every aspect of the game.

user-pic
Joe reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 20:09
+/-

Lou is really turning into the 2008-9 Lou. And was he ever a complete drain on the team.

After last year Lou seemed to have changed. Now? It is getting too many games in for him to be producing at this level.

Lou didn't change at all last year, Lou was in the system perfect for his score and do nothing else abilities...it was his dream coach

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:11

What a mail-it-in half....hope DC rips them a new one in the lockerroom. No leadership with EB out might I say?

I think that him sitting means more minutes from the pathetically weak frontcourt.

Add in bad Lou and things seem about right to me.

I don't even know what they can do in the second half to improve things. My only feeling is really to play Jrue, Turner, and Speights more

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:18

And although it's blatantly false, the eddies' can't even giggle with joy on something wrong when Evan only gets 3 min in the whole half.

user-pic

Correction: 5 min

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:24

Bring back Reggie Evans already.....while Kapono languishes on the bench.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:26
+/-

Come on, you can't look at Bargnani standing at the line! You HAVE to stay on him out there, it's not like he's taking you to the rack.

Just show a little heart here. They probably are out of it, but let's see some team defense like the last possession from Dre.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:32
+/-

They've got a chance to come back here, at least it's enough time left to do it and they're within range still.

This team does foul entirely too much. Some because of the front line, a lot of bail outs though.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:33
+/-

Brian would be impressed with the lefty non-fadeaway from Spencer.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:35
+/-

Way to step in and take the shorter j Jrue.

He's gotta perfect that shot. His shooting percentage has been down because he's taking the ball all the way to the rim too much. McGee was timing those shots last night. He's perfectly capable of being deadly with the pull-up.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 20:39
+/-

I agree. Cut down on the deep drives and cut down on the threes and create yourself that shot, and make them pay.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:37
+/-

Look at their non-cohesion or non-acknowledging, they're just no leadership or chemistry there. That's just sad when you're supposed to be a team.

Jrue's playing his butt off this half. All over the defensive end. This has to be every night.

Hawes is just terrible

user-pic
Rich reply to Joe on Nov 24 at 20:41
+/-

Well we got one good game out of him.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:41

Get this thing to around 10 before the end of the quarter. Act like you want it, at least for Doug's sake (and mine).

Reggie is shitting on Hawes. Had to be said.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 20:44
+/-

I always liked me some Reggie. For all his flaws, I still liked the heck out of the guy for a player.

He did his role - and well. Not much more you can ask for as a coach.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:43
+/-

Dag, good pass-fake by Thad to get the defender to bite, eventually laying it in.

Good to see the guy with the Turban still sits under the right basket. I remember him all the way back to the '01 series.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:48
+/-

We're not guarding shooters worth a crap tonight behind the line. Mostly just gazing at 'em, then starting to run out.

Speights and Brackins frontcourt, yikes.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:50
+/-

This has to be said, though not to be taken as a slam, but utter truths - is Evan in the gym again tonight? Does he know how to shoot the ball? Seriously.

He's been very passive.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:51
+/-

And Brack with the brick. Air-brick that is.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:53

87-71 after three. ugh....a run left in 'em? let's hope so.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:54

Because their really doesn't appear to be a sense of urgency.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:55
+/-

Dre has stroked that turn-around twice tonight. And let him go all to the rim. sheesh.

Meeks. Let him play more. He'll shoot it.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:56
+/-

Dammit. We cut it to 13 and they hit a 3.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:57
+/-

They can still win this game. Do they realize that, though?

For those who were pining for more Meeks (I was one), Barbosa is kind of showing maybe why he doesn't play. Barbosa has blown by him time after time.

Same can be said for Lou though, and Jodie doesn't monopolize the ball.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:00
+/-

That Lou/Jodie comparison deserves some thought, and it's true too....lol

Barbosa does that to pretty much everyone. he's very, very quick.

Maybe in '05 and '06, not really anymore though. These are wide open layups too.

Fucking Nocioni. Iggy makes the play of the game and he coughs up the ball by dribbling like a retard on the fast break, giving them an easy two. Damn. They had the ball down 11 there too.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 20:58
+/-

Ain't this a botch....Dre has an unbelieveable save thru the legs to Noc, and Noc attempts to dribble right into the middle of four guys, only to turn it over the other way for a layup. The Sixers season in a nutshell.

There is no explanation to how an NBA basketball player tries to make that play. None. Zero basketball IQ is the only way to explain it.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:02
+/-

Not excusing, but I think he just got excited. I really do, esp after he was the recipient of that wildly save.

user-pic
johnrosz on Nov 24 at 21:00
+/-

Nocioni is in there for his veteran presence. He's made more mistakes than just about anyone else out on the floor tonight.

Nocioni seems to be the master of bonehead moves at critical points of games this year

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:01
+/-

Look at our guys on the floor during free throws or on the way walking to timeouts. It's like a bunch of fucking strangers out there.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:03
+/-

And the shot falls off the bounce. Get a stop please.

And a damn turnover by Speights. ugh

After his first stint, Jrue has been excellent tonight. Impressed by the young guy.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:07
+/-

Speights doesn't like to roll off a pick, he likes to check up at around 18-20 feet and hope for the pass so he can do you know what.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:10
+/-

Good defense there. Now put the ball in the hole.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:11
+/-

And they do. With a sweet shot fake by Thad and drive and dish to Speights for the layup.

Why teams close out hard on Thad is beyond me. He's been very good tonight though, as has Iguodala.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:13
+/-

Like right there - Jure probes and has a kickout to Lou for three. I'd rather that be Jodie there to take that shot.

God that Lou miss was huge. His shooting touch is gone from everywhere. great read by Jrue to find him there for a wide open 3.

Down 10 now.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:17
+/-

Yep. That's the play where I was referencing above when talking about Jodie to take that look. Because Jrue did will to penetrate that deep into the teeth of the defense. And Jrue can do that whenever he wants if he puts his mind to it. Because he's not trying to get his own offense, just setting someone else for it.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:15
+/-

Man, a stop, and not a good shot by Jrue on the other end. You could have gotten that look any time in the shot clock.

Speights got a great O board there. Why not go strong and try to dunk that over Bargnani though? That was kind of a sissy left hand scoop avoiding contact.

Regardless of the result, this 2nd Half has been much, much better. JTI has been great tonight, except the T is for Thad.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:17
+/-

Well played.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:20

I hope Doug has some poignant comments tonight in the post game. Because this effort tonight is really nothing to gloss over.

Rather heartless is putting it mildly.

Is EB all we've got, which maybe isn't much?

Oh I don't know, not completely. I was really impressed by Thad's fight against that Mr. Softie Bargani. Dre really played hard in the 2nd Half and so did Jrue. The rest of the team was awful though.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:33
+/-

But therein lies my problem - you only said 'in the 2nd half'. Nothing personal, but that's just not good enough, not from Doug's standpoint. That's inexcusable. And I'm tired of looking for moral victories. That shit is for the birds.

I just hope Doug is making his notes and checking them twice with what he's seeing. That's all.

Cause I sure see it, which doesn't make it right, but some things aren't there, that normally should be. There are supposed to be givens when playing the game.

Probably not going to be many real victories. FWIW, those three guys were pretty good all night.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Nov 24 at 21:22
+/-

Won't reveal the final but Reggie Evans with a career high boards set against us tonight at 22.

Maybe Stefanski can order a "double-deuce" at his visit to Chili's tonight.

When is Rod Thorn going to make his first trade? That is the big question for the 76ers. A trade has to be coming, right?

Since the NY game, Lou has shot 20-84 from the field by my rough math. He must be hurt, because he's not really useful as a player when he shoots that horrendous percentage.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Nov 24 at 21:33

Was his shoulder dinged right before that NY game? Or after?

23.3% over his last 8.

this team has SO MANY momentum shifting plays. Everytime the Sixers make a run and are poised to slice into the lead they do something STUPID that completely ends whatever they had going for them. Example: After a couple Sixers baskets topped off with an Iguodala and-1 (that he actually converted!!!) followed by a big stop, the Sixers run out on a break and Nocioni inexplicably dribbles into 3 raptors and loses the handle. Turnover, Raptors basket, end of momentum. It's frustrating to no end and I'm sure it's eating Collins' alive.

I think we have a legit shot at worst record in the league, and we'll get it if we ship Iguodala out. No way the Clippers finish with a record as bad as they currently have. The Raptors aren't as bad as they're made out to be. Minnesota has some talent.

user-pic

Can you imagine what Love would do to Hawes at this point? Minnesota would wipe the floor with this team.
