According to D.Lynum, Meeks will get the start. Can he go on a run and give more than Willie used to?

Wonder who comes off bench first between Lou and ET.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Jason on Dec 3 at 19:02

Given their love for Lou, I think Lou will come off the bench first sadly.

Lou is only playing 22 minutes per. I'm not sure I'd call it a love affair.

user-pic
deepsixersuede reply to Derek Bodner on Dec 3 at 19:10

Is there any way Meeks can be a starter at this level? What was your take at his draft workouts?

user-pic
alvin reply to Derek Bodner on Dec 4 at 4:03

well he was the first guard off the bench tonight.

From a teaching Turner perspective, I like starting Meeks. If it was Nocioni, he could sort of write it off as a veteran getting the job, but with Meeks the message should be you have to work your tail off to start.

So this is hilarious. Iverson's team lost a fourth quarter lead while he was on the bench. Afterwards, some French reporters caught up to him and asked him how he felt about the benching...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRrIn5ASZpg

I love Lou too now, my therapist told me I had to. But by this genius espn reasoning we have 4 SGs including Jrue at this point so it really doesn't matter anymore. :)

Evans is starting at the two for them. I've got the Atlanta feed, unfortunately.

Still don't get why that wouldn't be a cause for celebration.

If I have to listen to unprofessional homers, I'd rather listen to unprofessional homers who are rooting for my team.

Wilkins actually has some insights though, and their play-by-play guy isn't an idiot, whereas Zumoff is just this mindless booster of anyone and everyone we throw on the court, and Snow thinks a crippled Roy is a better player than Rajon Rondo.

Wilkins is a complete moron.

user-pic
Tray reply to Brian on Dec 3 at 20:01

Aside from Marvin somehow taking advantage of Iguodala, I don't see what he's said that's so stupid. So far he's criticized Hawes's propensity to take outside shots, commented on Brand's total lack of athleticism, noted that Brand has learned to play w/o athleticism, faulted the Hawks for coming out flat, praised Bibby's outside shooting, criticized both teams for settling for wide open threes. None of our announcers would ever call a Sixers team flat or pick on our shot selection. The most Marc ever does in that regard is his retarded, "that's a HEALTHY three!"

Aside from the idiotic statement he made, he's made some obvious non-idiotic statements. I guess I can agree with that.

Hey, Hawes won a tip!!

Meeks for three, good start.

Ugh. Horford goes to double Brand and Hawes is the strong side guy on the perimeter. That's terrible.

Jrue's jumper is looking good.

Jesus, H. Iguodala gives Hawes the ball an inch away from the rim and he's afraid to go up with it. Turnover leads to an easy layup +1 on the other end.

Good drive by Meeks, put a foul on Horford too.

Bad turnover for Jrue there, leads to a dunk on the other end.

Sissy hook.

Clinic on bad shooting going on there for a minute.

Wow Spencer already has 5 boards.

user-pic

and that's the way you guard Josh Smith... way to stay in front by hawes

cant believe im saying that

Nice start here, not a lot of energy in that building, understandably.

Nice start

Lou is the first guard off the bench, for Meeks.

Hawes with a slam.

Tyrone Hill sighting. He looks like he hasn't aged a day.

OK, Lou and Turner in the back court, Lou brought the ball up, Turner dribbled for 8 seconds then passed back to Lou. Second time, Turner brought it up, dribbled for 7 seconds and passed it off to Iguodala.

user-pic
Tray reply to Brian on Dec 3 at 20:07

Sounds some like serious facilitation going on.

Sixers up 26-18 after the first. Little push by ATL to end the quarter, need to put a stop to that at the beginning of the second.

What are the odds that the second team builds on the lead the starters established? It alwatys seems one unit or the other- but never both on their game.

The second unit got off to a rough start.

Good energy from Speights. Thad blew a bunny after a sweet drive (behind-the-back to his right, haven't seen that before)

Teague is making Lou look helpless on the defensive end.

Thad blows another bunny, but grabs his own board and puts it in. Second unit not looking bad, other than Lou's "defense."

Turner with his first hoop. Dunk on the break.

Man, Atlanta's second unit looks like garbage. Sick defensive play by Iguodala, another pass ahead for a dunk, this time to Lou.

No complaints here.

this is fun.

ET looking to be in OSU form.

Nice little spurt there for Turner. Demanding the ball on back-to-back possessions and taking advantage of the matchup.

I like how crisp the half-court offense has been the past couple of minutes.

Turner all over the glass too.

No appearance for Nocioni in the first half?

17 ass on 23 field goals so far. the offense is going ver well in the first half...

Shit. Terrible end to the half. Sixers still lead, but the 10-4 run by ATL cut it to 8.

Sixers 54, Hawks 46.

12 defensive boards for Brand + Hawes in the first half, that's got to be a season high, right?

For the love of God, please no third quarter collapse tonight.

Heh, Hawes with decent D (on Horford) and a defensive board to start the third.

Uh, Brand is kind of dominating Josh Smith here.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:00

3rd chance point. put a body on these guys and box out

Wow, Horford's 1/10 from the floor.

First AI9 shot was bad, second was good. Missed both, though.

I'm seeing a lull, get some fresh bodies in there so this lead doesn't evaporate.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:06

Crucial time right here. They've cut it to 10. Subs coming in. Finish the quarter strong or at least even.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:07
+/-

And Speights with a terrible forced contested shot.

Lou for 3!

Huge three by Lou there to push it back up to 12.

Turner picking up where he left off?

Looks like Toronto is going to beat OKC.

Stop the bleeding, please.

Jumper, jumper, jumper, jumper. Ugh.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:13
+/-

No offensive flow right now. Lead cut to 3. ugh

Well, it sure seemed like worse than losing the quarter by 3 points, but that's what it all amounted to.

Sixers 74, Hawks 69.

Not sure what I'd do to start the fourth, the starters didn't exactly look good prior to coming out, and the bench looked terrible at the end of the quarter.

Now Marcus Camby is hurt it seems. Portland is falling apart.

Pretty sure the Hawks have 69 points on about 71 possessions. Defense has been stellar to this point. Let's not blow it in the fourth, huh?

Wonder if he goes with Nocioni and/or Battie to try to stabilize/energize the team here early in the fourth.

user-pic
Joe reply to Brian on Dec 3 at 21:19
+/-

Wow Noc hasnt played yet. I didn't even realize. No wonder they are playing so well this year... no Kapono, no Nocioni, just eliminate Hawes now.

Battie in for Speights to start the fourth, rest of the lineup is the same. Thad w/ another blown bunny, and another o-board off of it. Fouled this time.

Atta boy, Thad. Atta boy!

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:21

Yeah Thad. Good energy, let's go. He's got some fans there tonight too.

I'm hearing Phil Jasner passed away. Rest in peace.

yo brian, how about all these opposing teams' broadcasts? seems like the general opinion of thaddeus young is that he's better than he actually is, doesn't it?

fun to see the sixers playing well.

The opinion among broadcasters, I'm not so sure about front office guys.

Wow, pretty, pretty move by Turner, lefty finish from the right side + 1, plus a tech on Crawford. 4-point play opportunity here.

Bad shot, Lou. Contested deep three with about 19 left on the shot clock. Come on.

user-pic

It looks like they're trying to milk the clock. If they are, it's way too early. If they aren't, they just have no clue what to do on the offensive end.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:39

They've been waiting awful late to get into their offense, and then just go one-on-one. ? And did this for quite a few possessions in a row, I think.

Yeah, that's what I meant about looking like they're milking the clock. Not sure if it's intentional, or indecision or what, but they need to go quickly.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:40

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Why are they appearing to milk it? And then end up with bad outcomes more than likely....

Jrue... not bad, not bad.

Cut it to 2. Damn, what was Tony doing on that play? He was wide open.

Fuck me.

Come on, Collins. Draw something brilliant up, please.

The Sixers don't have Kobe. They can't afford to wait until there are 8 seconds left on the clock, then depend on someone to bail them out. They've been doing it for three minutes now. Run plays.

i assume everyone else is also thinking that if we didn't miss a dunk (by lou) this game would probably be a lot different? just unreal

user-pic

The 3 second violation comes to mind. A few poor Iguodala possessions as well.

They're an insanely streaky team

Well, hate to put it this way, but win this game, things might be changing around here. Lose it, same old, same old.

That Brand shot attempt had a 4% chance of going in.

This is insane...

Say it ain't so....Their first lead of game w/ 30 sec left. Come on, stop the late developing one-on-ones, please.

Correct, and they did.

Shit, they fucking had the dunk and Thad fumbled the ball. Ugh.

user-pic

alcohol: a 76ers fan's best friend

They also fouled Zaza, but no whistle, so the 90% guy from the line gets the shots. What did I do to deserve this?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:52

They miss both freebies. we give up the damn o-board. wow they get fouled again and are up by 3.

76ers have scored 1 point since Lou blew the fast break dunk which would have put 76ers up 11.

user-pic
Joe reply to RockP on Dec 3 at 21:54

Is that accurate? If so, wow.

score was 87-78 when Iggy stripped Marvin Williams and led the 2 on 1 break. only score was Battie's foul shot.

Do the sixer's draw lots before each game to decide who's gonna blow the game or does it just come naturally?

user-pic
smh1980 on Dec 3 at 21:55

I blame this loss on Iggy. What the fuck was he doing taking all those horrible shots with the big lead. This is bullshit!

i think i need a new paper bag. this one is getting old.

Yup. 1 point in the final 4:52 of the game after Lou missed that dunk.

76ers flaws are exposed in a tight game. They have no half-court offense, they have struggled for years at it. Only hope is Turner becomes that goto guy for tight games like tonight. Iggy settles for jumpers way too often to be that goto guy.

Plus he can't shoot!

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 21:59
+/-

It seems to come naturally. Cause they just don't know how to win. But they better learn from a game like this, they outplayed them for around 42 minutes, but just lacked the finish.

But I'll never understand what Doug's thinking was when he went to those late iso situations with around a 10 pt lead and maybe 5-6 minutes left. That's an eternity. And it was back-to-back-to-back etc......

Battie plays more minutes than Speights again!

He should, I don't know how much more of the Speights catch and shoot I can take. If he ever pump faked, Speights would have easy layups all game long. Plus Battie was great on D in the 4th.

Well except for that and 1 at the end. :)

So hows that evaluation of Tony the Tiger going for Collins you think? Does he want to resign him after this year as his defensive stopper?

Collins wants to win. When Collins got the job he said he wanted to make the 76ers relevant again, 76ers need to win to make that happen. When/ if the 76ers return to being a good NBA team most of the guys on the roster now won't be here.

user-pic
bebopdeluxe on Dec 3 at 22:05
+/-

Worse than the losses in Washington.

Worse than when Harris hit that shot in Jersey.

This is one of the worst losses of the post-Iverson era...maybe the worst.

I don't know what Collins says in the locker room after a game like that. I wouldn't bury Meeks - that's a tough spot to put the kid in. Iguodala is a good player, but I think he simply has to go...he needs to be a 3rd option on a good team. To jack some of the shots he did earlier in the 4th quarter...and then he shows ZERO sack in the guts of the game when at the very least, he gets to the line. Disgusting.

This is a young team...and you expect things like this to happen. However, two of the shakiest guys out there late were Iguodala and Brand...and if the young guys see guys like Battie make bone-headed mistakes like that, what do they learn?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 22:06

Dre showed major unselfishness to offer that up to Lou. He could have and should have brought the house down himself and it may have altered the outcome of that game to some degree. But he passed the ball to Lou, who obviously wanted to showboat at home. Cause it's not like Lou was way ahead of the defender to profile with it. Mess going straight over the rim. You can't script this stuff any better. The Sixers. The unpaid spokesman for Zantac. Thank you all for tuning in.

I'm trying to look at this as rationally as I can.

The Sixers are playing well and they are losing. Is that bad? Seriously...

user-pic
bebopdeluxe reply to Joe on Dec 3 at 22:13
+/-

When you put it THAT way...it may not be so bad to lose games. Forecs you to play the kids after the All-Star break (when they are already 20 games under .500)...convinces Thorn that this is going to take some TIME, and it's not a "tweak" job (not that he is that stupid).

The only problem is that games like this do not help Iggy or Lou's trade value.

Well the good thing from tonight is that Evan Turner sure did look a lot better than he has lately. He really does need the ball in his hands to feel comfortable. I say give him the ball even more!!!

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 22:17
+/-

I agree. He (ET) helps the team more if they put him out there to spell Jrue. But they need someone else out there beside him that's not Lou. We really don't have anyone, unless he goes Thad at 3 with Dre at 2.

But Lou had help in killing the flow tonight. It looked to be coaching b/c it happened so many times.

This are the type of performances that Iguodala will forever be remembers for as a Sixer. The team and the coach needed a go to guy, a floor leader, a finisher and he came up small at all three. Very small!! He's gotta go to make room for Jrue and Turner.

Good 42 minutes of trying to win.

Lousy 6 minutes of trying not to lose.

Overall, some positives can be taken once you get past the agony.

user-pic
bebopdeluxe reply to tk76 on Dec 3 at 23:05

Well played, sir.

There were some positives. McKie should put that play where Turner breezed by Smith and jabstepped Crawford on a loop and force him to watch it a-la Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange ("see...you DO belong...so stop swinging the ball 25 feet from the basket to Mareese Speights!"). Like Kate Fagan said earlier this week, Meeks is a bulldog who will take WHATEVER (or whoever's) minutes he can get...hopefully Turner will rise to the challenge - or we're fucked.

user-pic

Any post game available yet? What a stinker............they never cease to amaze me. This better not linger. What a really cracked up ending to a game. I'm trying to decide if this one is worse than the two WASH games. They practically seemed to dominate this game, but yet they lose. What gives with this team? They continue to invent new ways to lose. They should write a book on it. I'd buy it....shit, I'm buying this now.

Seriously, they probably played their best game of the season up to the 5 minute mark, and they even made a stand early in the fourth. ATL cut it to three, and they came roaring right back. That Lou dunk would've pushed it back to double digits.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 22:39

We were rolling along all game, and then we only score 14 in the 4th? wtf is that? Why the under 2 min offense with a 10 pt lead when it was still 6 min left in the game? I would love for someone to ask DC what was his offensive philosophy on those last bundle of possessions? What was the desired result/shot/look?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 3 at 22:50
+/-

It's interesting.....that if you look at the "SG" minutes. Jodie replaces and gets 19 minutes and Evan gets 18 minutes in the reserve role yet different position. Just a different guy out there with a unit, not necessarily who the "starter" is. But the problem is, he gave Lou 36 minutes at whatever position. He needs to cut that back by around 10 every night depending on flow, and give 5 more to Jodie and 5 more to Evan, or 5 more to even Jrue.
