Game 28 Thread: PHI @ CHI

hey guys,

i am down in Bogota and my NBA league pass is not working. Does anyone have a link for tonight's game that i can try?

CSTH

I'm drawing a complete blank on the name of that site. atdhe.net maybe? Someone mentioned it on here a couple times, pretty sure they have all the games. Hopefully someone will be around w/ a working link.

user-pic
johnrosz reply to csth on Dec 21 at 20:03

Heh. Van Gundy has Turk starting at the four. Jameer, Redick, Richardson, Turk, Howard.

its just multicolored boxes on the screen

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 21 at 20:08

Jrue better buckle his belt tonight in trying to keep up with Rose and his penetration and at times relentless attacking.

And we're off!!

Hawes wins the tip.

Heh, nice D on the pick-and-roll by CHI. Iguodala uncontested slam.

Ugh, Jrue picks up his first foul already, on Deng no less.

Hate the Hawes jumper on second possession.

Good D that time, Rose hits the three anyway.

Hawes on Boozer? Don't like that.

user-pic
Court_visioN reply to Brian on Dec 21 at 20:18

i don't mind hawes on boozer. lets brand roam a little bit.

Boozer doesn't mind it either. He's eating him alive.

user-pic

Too much one on one from us on O so far.

Ugh. Bad start.

Jodie for three, I'll take it.

Nice charge drawn by Jrue.

Meant Jodie.

Iguodala's jumper is dropping.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 21 at 20:19

Aw, that deflected off the bulls player after Jrue hit it.

Pretty play. Give and go for the oop, JH to AI to JH.

Bulls 8/11 to start the game, with 2 offensive rebounds. That's not quite good defense on the Sixers' part.

Fuck me. Jrue picked up his second on another switch onto Deng.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 21 at 20:24

Jrue with 2 early one, uh-oh. Lou time. Please be good.

Lou on Rose, ugh.

user-pic
Court_visioN reply to Brian on Dec 21 at 20:25

on cue, lou fouls rose.

If both Lou and Jrue get into foul trouble, Doug has to go with Turner at the point, right?

You'd think so.

Thad in for Brand.

Never seen Iguodala fall for that rake-through before.

This is bad. Very, very bad.

user-pic
Court_visioN on Dec 21 at 20:28
+/-

rough start. they need to shore up their pick and roll D. Switching and doubling aren't working.

No offense being run at all w/ Lou at the point.

Even when the Bulls miss, we can't grab a fucking rebound.

user-pic

Turner time, please.

user-pic

Gonna be a long night if Doug doesn't make some serious adjustments.

So what's Doug's panic sub? Nocioni over Turner, I think.

user-pic
Court_visioN reply to Brian on Dec 21 at 20:34

bad bet, lol

Bad start. Lou at the point is a joke. Through Turner in there on Rose. Boozer and Hawes is scary, too.

btw--thx for the link. I'm hooked up!

He switched Meeks onto Rose, see if that helps.

Brand back in for Hawes and on Boozer.

Turner in at the next opportunity.

Turner in for Meeks.

I think I've counted about 50 pump fakes for Lou so far, thought he cut that shit out of his game.

Turner on Rose.

did the bulls announcer just tell elton brand to hit the weight room? haven't heard that one in years.

Terrible first quarter.

they're making more than their share of contested jumpers, but there's a lot of wide open looks at the rim too.

There's Nocioni, great.

Brand doing some work. Need to ride that while the rook is on him.

user-pic

Good hustle by Thad to get that o-board.

Nice, Thad. Two o-boards right there. Need that type of effort if you're going to come back.

atta boy thad

Lou Williams' head fake might be the worst "move" in the league. We'd be so much better off with a veteran PG playing 10-15 minutes a game and Turner getting 20-25 minutes at SG right now.

i hope aaron mckie just told turner "if you're just going to pass the ball along the perimeter, why do we need you on the floor? be aggressive."

67% from the floor for Chicago.

if nocioni isn't hitting his threes why is he still on the floor?

Good question.

Can't buy a stop. This feels more like a EJ game than a Doug game.

That turnover by Turner was just horrible. I mean, that pass doesn't get through there in a high school game.

Alright, the Bulls are going cold on those jumpers, need to keep letting them take them and put points on the board on the other end.

turner posting on rose, got blocked.

Come on, single digits by the half, then regroup.

What do people seen in Turner?

I am not calling him a bust but he looks absolutely lost and doesn't seem to show the slightest bit of an improvement since the year started. If anything he looks like he has regressed some.

He's lost. There's not much to see at all right now.

Bulls are scoring on almost every possession. That's not gonna get it done.

user-pic

backpicks killing the sixers right now. wide open looks at the rim. add that to the fact that philly can't do anything offensively, especially w/o jrue.

They're on pace for 120, we're due for 80. Looks like it's gonna take a miracle to put a W in the column after this one.

the hope is that Doug will be able to make some adjustments in the second half. Hopefully having Jrue back in, he'll avoid foul trouble, stablize the offense and help the defense.

iguodala doing everything he can to get points up on the board. defense still nonexistent, down 18 at the half.

RicBucher: Bulls, w/out Taj or Noah, having their way w/76ers. Phi pulling Iguodala off trade block to chase a playoff spot may be short-lived plan. 38 minutes ago

Flash back 4 years ago...
Rose and ET were bother HS seniors in Chicago. Rose was the big time prospect and Turner not so much.

Those two are the same age and light years apart in talent right now. Maybe Turner will close the gap in a few years- but I'm not sure I can convince myself he will. Sure he'll improve, but the difference between the two is so much that they should not be put in the same sentence.

user-pic
tk76 reply to tk76 on Dec 21 at 21:19

Bother should read "both"

Rose and ET were bother HS seniors in Chicago. Rose was the big time prospect and Turner not so much.

I'm confused, 4 years ago Rose was a big prospect and Turner wasn't. What's your point about there being a gap? No shit, there's a gap, there always will be. Rose was a #1 pick for a reason

I had a couple people telling me Turner was the better player when they were seniors. They emailed me when we drafted Turner.

user-pic
tk76 reply to Brian on Dec 21 at 21:33
+/-

Read the old news clippings. Turner thought he was being disrespected because Wall got all the pub. No one ouutside his school thought he was n Rose's league. He was not a top 30 national prospect.

I'm not taking away from what Turner built himself into at OSU. I'm just saying he's the #2 overall pick, but I can name a bunch of players in his HS class that seem like they will be much better players- or at least are right now.

user-pic
tk76 reply to GoSixers on Dec 21 at 21:29

They were both top 2 overall selections in the NBA draft. They are the same age. Why such a big gap? Shouldn't a #2 overall pick be in the same league as Rose? Generally speaking #1's are a notch above, but all top 5 picks should be elite prospects.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to tk76 on Dec 21 at 21:34

Hold up - at one point, didn't you tell me that 'my' expectations were too high? Now all top 5 picks should be elite prospects?

Are you starting to come around on ET, but at that time of the statement were still a firm believer?

You know better to compare across drafts like that so either someone has hacked your account, your drunk or you've had an aneurysm

user-pic
mgfields on Dec 21 at 21:18

They shouldn't be tired should they? They are on the road, but haven't played since Saturday.

There's adjustment #1. Quick double of Boozer w/ a big. Causes a turnover.

user-pic

They are making Kurk Thomas look like KG

this is lame. im tryin to talk smack to a bunch of chi dudes and gettin laughed at

You're right, trying to talk smack is lame

Here is the heart of my concern about Turner:

This past years draft class was lousy (after Wall.) In a normal year Turner would not have been the consensus #2- meaning he would have had to do competitive pre-draft workouts like everyone else. And in that setting he would have been exposed/abused (base on his performance since the draft.) So IMO in a "normal draft class" Turner would have quickly slipped from a top 5 guy to a late lottery pick.

So say current (22 year old) Turner entered the draft in 2008 (with his HS classmates Rose, Mayo, Gordon etc.) Turner would have had to go against those guys.... I think even 22 year old Turner once exposed in workouts gets picked in the top 14?

1. CHI -- Derrick Rose
2. MIA -- Michael Beasley
3. MIN -- O.J. Mayo
4. SEA -- Russell Westbrook
5. MEM -- Kevin Love
6. NYK -- Danilo Gallinari
7. LAC -- Eric Gordon
8. MIL -- Joe Alexander
9. CHA -- D.J. Augustin
10. NJN -- Brook Lopez
11. IND -- Jerryd Bayless
12. SAC -- Jason Thompson
13. POR -- Brandon Rush
14. GSW -- Anthony Randolph

That 2008 draft was loaded. Blake Griffin stayed in school for another year, and even he probably wouldn't have gone in the top 5 since he wasn't regarded as that great of a freshman...

that's about 6 long twos in a row for them.

Quick hook for Jrue again. He had a bad turnover.

Mo Speights in - throwing in the towel?

I love Iggy but damn it's like I expect him to miss both free throws every time he goes to the line.

Then you should pay more attention to his career FT%

OK, so Lou has made consecutive turnovers just as bad as the one Jrue did to get sent to the bench. How much rope does Lou get?

Not a whole lot more rope. Turner in for Lou with the savior, Battie.

Exactly man. Whole day is ruined.

Not that it matters, but Watson shuffled his feet and switched pivot feet before they called the foul on Jrue.

Two years in a row where the second round pick in the draft is a bust. Has that happened before.

Both juniors by the way. Turner does not pick the profile of the sixers typical draft pick. They usually take the youngest player with the most upside. Turner is not that...

Yes, he's a bust after less than 30 games.

Come out from behind the alias? I guess your mother named you eddies' heady's?

I'm not arguing with your Turner comments, I was just stating the obvious - that you are an unoriginal douche bag.

Brian, let me know if you want this turned into a Turner post...

About my Turner comments- I'm not anti-Turner. I just think a strange set of circumstances came together that led him to being last year's #2 overall pick. And in 2-3 years it won't matter where he was drafted. He will be a player judged by what he does on the floor and not where he was picked. And hopefully he figures out the NBA game to where he is an asset on the floor.

Right now I'm more focussed on the cascade of events that led him to be the #2 pick. I listed the factors above. Turner built himself into a tremendous college player- in an era where most top guys are one and done. He also was shielded from direct pre-draft competition when he was tabbed as the consensus #2 pick. And his draft class was pretty weak IMO.

So here is my question:

I think it is fair to compare current 22 year old NBA players. Sure each has there own learning curve, experiences and opportunities. But overall its probably the most fair group to compare right now- since they all should be at an age where there talent shows but they still have room to grow. Certainly more fair than comparing guys who are 3 years apart in age.

Lets looks at guys within 1 year of Turner (who just turned 22). So guys within 6 months of his birthday on either side of 22. Where picked in (). This seems to be a tremendously talented group. If you had to draft these guys today based on all available knowledge, how would you rank them? I'll give it a shot:

1. Durant (2)
2. Wall (1)
3. Griffin (1)
4. Love (5)
5. Westbrook (4)
6. E. Gordon (7)
7. Lopez (10)
8. Batum (25)
9. Mayo (3)
10. Hickson (19)
11. Gallinari (6)
12. Turner (2)
13. Thad Young (12)
14. Harden (3)
Blair
De'Andre Jordan
Flynn (6)
Beasley (2)
Casipi
Bayless
Buddinger
Pat Patterson
Aldrich
Hawes
Fields
Teague
Day

This is a ton of talent and high picks considering we are basically only looking at guys born within 1 year (21,5 - 22.5 years old today.)

Where would you "draft" Turner in this group of his peers (by age?)

Yeah, go ahead. Flesh it out a little and send it to me. I'm going to try to get some distance for a little while. This game has me fuming.
