Game 32 Thread: PHI @ PHO

Report from a Washington paper regarding who the wizards are shopping (and aren't) makes more sense than earlier reports Blatche on the market, not McGee

any thoughts on this trade:

Blatche, Thornton & Serpahin to the 76ers for Andre Igoudala.

im not that knowledgable, but a promising young big and wing seems pretty good if the sixers are inclined to move dala.

Blatche isn't promising.

Blatche is not that much better than Speights with worse atitude, Thornton is an expiring and Seraphin nothing special. Nooooooooo!!!!!

Jrue w/ 2 quick jumpers but then he turned it over jumping before passing under the hoop. Stroke looking good from the kid, now take Nash to the hoop since you've got him respecting the J.

zumoff and snow love noce

Jrue w/ another J.

easy layup for brand

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:18
+/-

Jrue's really struggling to stay with or in front of Nash on other end though.

Remember when 4 players used to stand around to get Iverson isolation? They should do that for Jrue on Nash today. Jrues stroke looks beautiful tonight. Whomever helped him with that (Mckie?) needs to spend a lot of time with Turner

user-pic
Jason reply to GoSixers on Dec 29 at 21:19
+/-

I don't understand why Jrue got Mckie and Turner gets Curry lol.

The suns announcers love jrue and Thad who is in for Hawes already and has had a quick bucket

My fantasy roster has both point guards in this game, so that's good, but Jrue's gotta play some defense

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:20
+/-

Jrue can't go under those screens for Nash, he just nailed a 3. Fast, fast pace so far.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:25
+/-

The Suns transition offense is such a blur, on makes or misses.

Not gonna keep up in a game with this pace...

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:28
+/-

Doug is gonna have to do something different with these pick-and-rolls. Trap them maybe. Can't go under, Nash lights you up. Can't go over, they hit you with the big rolling.

Passing doesn't even cross Thad's mind, huh?

but thats his role this year, right? go out and get yours inside the electric fence

It's the only role he's good at - but it's not worth a long term extensions

Jrue Lou and ET at the same time? Interesting

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:30
+/-

Just our luck, we finally don't come out slow but fast, yet they are even hotter and faster than we are.

Holy end to end by Evan.

maybe this up and down pace plays to turners strengths

Having the ball in his hand plays to his strengths as it did in college, but unfortunately he has to learn to do as well with the ball not in his hands because, well Jrues better :)

et please phone home then have a breakout game tonight

33 point first quarter

and down by 2 - jeez

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:35

Dag, we put up 33 w/o Dre but give up 35. Somebody has to stick with Grant Hill leaking out on every opportunity.

Turner showing flashes

Turner blew that break with that telegraphed pass. ugh

Nice look by Lou to the cutting Thad, shame Thad couldn't finish, but impressive to see Lou make the pass

We're scoring at will vs. their porous D, but they're making us look rather porous too. Just get some stops, please.

nash gortat pick and roll looks nice

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:48

We've got to trap Nash on the P and R's. They're killing us.

Evan, you had the give back to Elton Brand on that pass before GOrtat bailed you out, gotta get used to giving the ball up...

that was a foul on turner, no?

He was tripped

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:50

Noc is 5 for 5 w/ 4 boards so far. Talk about a rarity.

7 assists on 22 baskets - not good

Elton, Spencer, and Jodie have 4 pts combined, and we're tied at 49. Wow.

user-pic

Good follow by ET on the EB miss.

Nice put back Evan

does ET ever get to the hoop? dude pulls up every time

He avoids contact and gets the shot in - so what?

user-pic
T McL reply to GoSixers on Dec 29 at 22:04
+/-

He should get better at drawing fouls, but with his (relatively) limited athleticism, we'll have to settle for him creating space and making the short shot. He would just get blocked more often that get fouled compared to a guy like Andre

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 21:53

Nash is making Jrue look like he's still in high school.

turner lookin lively

ET is lookin good!

Turner in rhythm tonight. Another J.

Best game for Turner since the opener

Too much collapsing on Nash - you don't need to triple him

why did lou shoot that?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:09
+/-

What a bummer - we're shooting 61 damn percent, they're shooting 59%. sheesh only up one. no way we can sustain this. Doug has to make some type of adjustment on these ball screens for Nash and at least slow this game down some. Playing right into their hands at this pace.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:28

COme on use the glass from there Meeks.

great dish from jrue

Think I'm ready for Meeks to go away with Noc.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:36

Doug just made some weird subs. He took out Jodie (who was struggling getting posted up by VC) and put in Lou; and took out Hawes for Thad. All while PHX still has Lopez, Frye, and Grant Hill in the game. They looked to go right at Lou and post him up and then appeared to maybe be in a matchup zone. Just seemed to be odd what he did.

im guessing he has confidence in those guys. is he saving turner to relieve jrue? best game i can recall from noce

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:39

Well Gentry has subbed out Lopez for Gortat and Frye for Pietrus now. so they're a lil smaller

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:42
+/-

See, we've got Lou on VC now and they go right to it and post Lou. We double and then Lou and Thad just both leave VC for an open jumper. ugh

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:44
+/-

A little over 2 min left in the 3rd and we're still in this game? Hard to believe. Damn 3's given up is killing us again tonight - they're 50% at 7-14. Shit.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:46
+/-

Jrue is on fire tonight from the perimeter. He's just cancelling himself out by not stopping Nash in the slightest.

Listening on the Suns feed, they absolutely love Holiday. can't help but mention Young's lack of passing every time he touches the ball.

Always like to hear the opposing announcers perspective every now and then, except against Boston.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Derek Bodner on Dec 29 at 22:49
+/-

Thad has Speights-itis tonight with his passing (lack of)

I don't disagree with them tonight, but I don't think it's necessarily representative of his entire career. I think he's done a fairly good job of not forcing things.

I like how they compare Nocioni to Adrian Peterson when describing how Nocioni attacks the basket lol.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:48

This is so damn frustrating. We are shooting the lights out - but they are too.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:51

Good close out to that quarter for us to take a 6 pt lead. have to capitalize if they continue to rest Nash here to start the 4th.

12 min to glory? Or 12 min til the next stop we get? lol

user-pic

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:55

Thad with the hard attack. Lou just doesn't seem to want to attack the rim tonight.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:57
+/-

Must say, the effort from everyone of our guys has been on point tonight. Just relentless, just not resulting in stops on the defensive end though.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 22:59
+/-

ha, Turner getting nifty w/ the crossover dribble between the legs drawing the foul on the stepback.

seems like hes always had this, just not confident or aggressive enough

Decisiveness is what I like to be seeing. He seemed to be second guessing everything, and he's not tonight.

New career high for Evan. Now he just needs to foul out Pietrus.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:02

Don't know what Doug implemented, but hardly any stagnant dribbling the air out of the ball getting into late offense tonight. Loving that.

user-pic
bebopdeluxe reply to eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:37

What happened was Collins left Lou "The Black Hole" Williams on the bench and he played Evan Turner.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to bebopdeluxe on Dec 29 at 23:39
+/-

Not true. Lou played half the game tonight w/ 24 minutes.

user-pic
bebopdeluxe reply to eddies' heady's on Dec 30 at 0:09
+/-

Yeah...but he didn't get much burn in the guts of the game - which is when the Sixers pretty much matched the Suns basket-for-basket and kept them at arm's length. The Sixers had at least 2-3 posessions in the last 5 minutes of the game where they used a bunbch of the shot clock...moved the ball around a lot...and got either a bucket or a trip to the line - which is what good teams do late in the game to protect leads.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to bebopdeluxe on Dec 30 at 0:15
+/-

All true, but your initial statement really has no basis because Lou and Evan were on the court mostly together tonight. And Lou even had 4 assists to only one for Evan.

user-pic
bebopdeluxe reply to eddies' heady's on Dec 30 at 1:03
+/-

Did Lou and ET play together in the last 7 1/2 minutes of the game?

Nope.

How many come-from-ahead losses has this team had this season where "Bad Lou" would KILL ball movement in the guts of the game?

Not tonight (thank God).

I want Williams traded so bad it's not funny.

I'd like someone to run video comparison of the tech that Brand got, to the one dragic got to the one that neither nash NOR gentry got - it seems like they argued at least twice as long and vociferously as Brand or Dragic

It's amazing how the suns just always continue to cure almost all ills. Didn't sam have like 20 rebounds against the suns once people got real excited

It was always that 'the suns don't play defense cause d'antoni doesn't like it' - it seems tht the suns don't play defense period - the only consistent is steve nash

user-pic
Tray reply to GoSixers on Dec 29 at 23:15
+/-

Actually, I thought the whole point of the Alvin Gentry, post-Kerr regime was reimplementing the D'Antoni strategy. So I'd say the constant is organizational philosophy. I'd hate that crap if I were a Suns fan.

Ah, I didn't know that was the plan, it's a crappy plan I think (I mean, how are the suns and warriors that much different really in terms of philosophy - the suns were just doing it with better players).

Don't believe this is a style that will ever win an NBA championship, you gotta be able to play defense when the shots won't fall.

user-pic
PhillyFanMatt on Dec 29 at 23:11

Come on guys, close this out. This would be a big win for Doug, the team. Couple more stops and baskets.

One game doesn't mean Evan Turners arrived but what a performance...he looks great, what a pass that was a few minutes ago.

user-pic
PhillyFanMatt reply to eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:17

Jrue Holiday, ladies and gentleman. Nash hits a three, Jrue hits a jumper, steals the ball and provokes a Nash technical. COME ON

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:12

Good job by ET just to get that up on the rim before the clock expired. Noc with the o board and fouled. Pietrus out w/ fouls.

Noc just got bailed out so bad. What a terrible idea to go back up with it and somehow they call a foul on Pietrus.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:15

Come on....3 sec on the clock and we inbound to EB? Doug should have called a 20 sec there.

Jrue at the line. misses first, ugh. makes 2nd

If i'm not mistaken, nearly every jumper Evan has let go tonight has been nothing but drawwws.

In other words - wET!

look at doug collins, he is emotionally invested

Minor thing - but I believe it's the first game the sixers won where they gave up 100+ points to the opponent, but dear god the Suns just suck...

Well I guess tomorrow the majority of the couple thousand fans the team has left will be saying how this shows that Iguodala was holding Turner back.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:30

What a great whirlwind of a game. It was so hurriedly herky-jerky. Never seen us play one like that from start to finish. Every damn minute or second was like that.

The effort and energy and unselfishness from everyone was out of this world tonight. Wish they would duplicate it.

PhillyFanMatt reply to eddies' heady's on Dec 29 at 23:34

Agree 100%. If they can keep that up, or at least in long stretches...games like that make it worth it for us fans

Great win. Must say that being 3-3 in this road trip so far is very good, specially with a relatively schedule coming up after the Lakers. Glad to see Evan Turner finally coming into his own. Not only scoring, but shooting, dribbling and passing with confidence. Finally looks like a basketball player. Hope he keeps getting PT and that when Iggy comes back it doesn't send him to the end of the bench again. I must say, time for the Sixers to start looking at the Iggy market again, see what we can get, and move forward with the young team. But that's for another day - great win for the Sixers!!

Or the Sixers could just eliminate Noc's/Meeks minutes.

Well, this was certainly an awesome night.

Sorry Evan, but Noc is my player of the game tonight. Double-double w/ 7 trips to the line. But Jrue makes a strong push for it too. Needs to be a Tri-POTG to be fair. But Noc was huge especially being on the floor for over 40 min and not actually killing us in any one area.

Have to keep reminding myself that this was the Suns and far from guarantees Turner becoming consistent. He has to maintain this confidence level when there are better defenders on him. Evan's a very cerebral player and I think if he can avoid becoming flustered we will see these performances more often.

Indeed, playing against the Suns is better than the D league for developing offensive confidence. Hope this gets him jump started.

Sixers are too much for the Suns:

http://ow.ly/3vYXZ

Great thread guys. I just finished watching it, working on the wrap now. Big win, and it counts as two because Iguodala didn't play!

21 and 16 for Cousins tonight, off the bench. It's a red-letter day for troubled rookies; Turner makes some shots for just the second time in his NBA career, Cousins dominates a game.

21pts on 20 possessions, 3 turnovers and 5 fouls. I think Turner was a little bit more impressive. The rebounding was great for Cousins, though. Can't deny that.

Evan Turner is now averaging 13.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, in 34 minutes per night while shooting 48.5% in the 7 games Iguodala has not played. He has averaged 4.9 points on 36.4% shooting in just under 21 minutes per game when Iguodala has played.
