Game 37 Thread: PHI @ DET

If there was ever a game to start Thad young this is it.

CV can't take advantage of Thaddeus on offense imo, and there is no way that CV can defend Thaddeus.

You mean start him at PF and move Brand to C? If you start him at SF, he'll have Tayshaun on him, and I don't think that's a favorable matchup for the Sixers.

user-pic
Jason reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 16:20
+/-

I think that Brand should be guarding Wallace on defense regardless of thad is starting or not. I don't want Brand running after Charlie V 20 feet from the basket all game long.

Who does Charlie V guard if prince is on thad?

If it's the normal starting lineup, I assume Charlie V. will be guarding Hawes. If you're talking about taking Hawes out of the starting lineup for Thad, then Charlie V. would guard Thad. If you're talking about starting Thad instead of Nocioni, then Prince guards Thad, Charlie V guards Hawes, Wallace guards Brand.

C: Hawes - Charlie V.
PF: Brand - Wallace
SF: Nocioni - Prince

C: Brand - Wallace
PF: Thad - CV
SF: Nocioni - Prince

C: Hawes - CV
PF: Brand - BW
SF: Thad - TP

The only way I see Thad getting Charlie V on him is if you bench Brand for him.

C: Hawes - Wallace
PF: Thad - CV
SF: Nocioni - TP

They should be looking to get Brand on CV, imo. Maybe have Hawes screen for Brand, force a switch.

user-pic
Jason reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 16:43
+/-

C: Brand - Wallace
PF: Thad - CV
SF: Nocioni - Prince

Honestly, I don't know if i'd do this because Nocioni slows this team down. If Iguodala was here going small would be much more effective as sixers could run Detroit off the court.

That said I think that Brand can't take advantage of Charlie V 1 on 1, Brand's 1 on 1 offense isn't there anymore. Basically we'd hope that brand loses Charlie V on offense and gets open jump shots which is possible, but I think that detroit would put wallace on brand and Charlie V on hawes. Putting Thad and Brand in there makes a clear mismatch in the front court.

user-pic
Jason reply to Jason on Jan 8 at 16:45
+/-

errr, I was suggesting originally to put thad in for hawes and go Nocioni-Thad-Brand. That said with nocioni at the 3 instead of Iggy i'm not sure how much of a mismatch this ends up being.

OK, so I'm seeing these rumors about a 17-player deal landing Melo in NJ. From the best I can tell, the Nets would be left with this lineup:

PG: Billups
SG: Rip Hamilton
SF: Melo
PF: Humphries
C: Lopez

Is that a contender? They'd also be giving up multiple picks, though I don't think that's a huge deal.

Billups has a player option for next year, Rip has another year left after this one, so conceivably, they could be left with just Lopez and Melo, with significant cap space when they move to Brooklyn.

Personally, I don't think this deal makes them a playoff team this year, but it may set them up if they can find three solid guys to fill out their lineup and a bench a couple years down the road. They'd really need to focus on defense at the other positions, though. Lopez has regressed big time, imo.

The reports also indicate that the Pistons hate the deal and really can't do anything until they're sold anyway, supposedly the pistons have to include a pick as well :)

The general pervailing wisdom is that Carmelo will not re-sign with the Nets as the current two team deal exists so they are TRYING to find a third team to get involved to sweeten the Jersey side to keep Melo.

The Nuggets and Nets have already tried to include the Blazers, Cavaliers and Wolves, but have not been able to finalize the deal.

user-pic

Guess this isn't happening.

@SpearsNBAYahoo

Agent Andy Miller tells Y! Sports Chauncey Billups doesn't wanted to be traded from his hometown Nuggets and would prefer a buyout if dealt.

Nocioni fractured and dislocated a finger last night right? Is it for sure he's playing?

Nothing short of a buzz cut gone wrong could stop him.

hmmm does anybody know if this is legit? http://twitter.com/SoyElChapu

Interesting, and little considered, stat from Bulls' game: Sixers scored only 6 fastbreak points, meaning they did extremely well in half court sets.
I think tonight they could/should run more, we have to dominate the glasses and get easy points in transition.
Brian, since you take note of rotations, Brand, Meex and Jrue played 40+ min last night, I think Speights and Turner should see more action vs Det

I'd like to see a 17+ point win tonight, get the Sixers into positive PF vs. PA territory.

Yeah Jrue, and X - that's how I feel....whooooo....lol

Alrighty, here we go...

I chose the Philly feed, had both on league pass. Not sure why.

Aaaaand, Hawes loses the tip.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 19:57
+/-

It's Ben Wallace. Even when he's 50 he's gonna beat Hawes on a tip.

Meeks opens w/ a three.

Hawes is covering Charlie V. Good for Brand's legs.

Nothing but made long jumpers so far. Take it to the hole.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 19:45
+/-

Hope Jrue has less than 2 turnovers tonight.

There's one.

and almost two, but Jrue got the call, and the hoop, and the foul.

There's number two. Hawes should've had the pass, though.

Elton Brand vs Ben Wallace...is this 2005?

Energy doesn't look good to me at all. Detroit is quicker down the floor. Sixer need to hustle back.

Jrue with a three. He's got 8 quick ones.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 19:47
+/-

Jrue making them pay for attention on Jodie with a 3!

Both teams are on fire to start the game, gotta ratchet up the defense.

Not sure if they gave that turnover to Jrue. Hawes should've had the pass if it wasn't tipped.

Fuck, steal and blown bunny by Jrue. Left the finger roll short.

Holy crap, did anyone see the run by Lynch? He might have broken 6 tackles for a 70 yard TD.

Wow, is Seattle really going to beat the Saints?

user-pic
Jason reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 19:59
+/-

What a game that was, I also glad to see that the cameras finally caught the saints dirty tactics on the final kneel of the game. Only took 2 years to get noticed.

Didn't think that was an offensive foul. Prince didn't take the contact, he tried to block the shot.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 19:53

Jodie with the up-court hustle. Dime from Jrue, a long one. Nice

Ugh. I hate those fouls. First on Jrue.

user-pic

Nice ass look Jrue, crisp pass.

Great find by Jrue on the P&R.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 19:55
+/-

Transition D please.

Detroit looks quicker and they just aren't. Tired legs.

Not much defense eh

Thad looks pretty psyched to have charlie v "guarding" him.

Good call, McGrady slid and fouled him.

Good D by Lou chasing Prince off the three there. He hit the 18-footer, but that's a good trade.

Shit. I guess they called that on Jrue. His second. Need to keep it together, Collins is going to sit him until there's about 6 minutes left in the second Q.

That's two on Jrue. We're screwed.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:01
+/-

Oddly, I say we gain more of our legs as the game goes on. They're just ridding the slight stiffness. We're subject to turn it on; if it can look anything close to last night.

I'd like another round of that fun.

With Jrue on 2 early fouls and iggy not playing, damn we need Turner to come on the floor and produce.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Alvin on Jan 8 at 20:02

I don't think we'll compete if Lou "runs the point".

user-pic

Good hook pass Lou to Reese.

Turner's running the point, and looking pretty good. Need this, badly.

Sweet move by Turner.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:06

Nice attack off the dribble from ET.

Turner with confidence!

We're up, but the Pistons are a horrible team. We've got to play some D.

Nice move by Turner, if only McGrady was on him all the time :)

PHI 34, DET 30 after one.

Poor defensive quarter, but offense is keeping them ahead. Jrue had 11 pts, 5 assists before picking up his second foul.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 20:09
+/-

It looked like it was gonna be a career game for Jrue before the second foul.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:08
+/-

Not the quarter I'd like to see, but we can sure seem to score our share, all of a sudden.

We're gonna blow these cats out of the gym too....Just wait til DC makes adjustments and starts shutting their ass down on d..lol

OK, need Turner to keep this up, and hold the lead until Jrue gets back on the floor.

Thad's throwing up too many wild hook shots lately.

Meeks coming back in, I'm assuming for Lou.

Meeks for Nocioni, Turner to the three.

Yep, Turner's mid-range game is clicking.

I hate it when Lou runs the point. Why does it even happen??

Probably because he doesn't turn the ball over much.

user-pic
AJ reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 20:15
+/-

Of course not, since once out of every 2 times he brings the ball down the court he pounds it for 10 seconds and then just shoots it himself.

user-pic
Alvin reply to AJ on Jan 8 at 20:15
+/-

So that we can show kids how NOT to run the point?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:14

A teammate finally gave ET a look, EB with the cross-court dish for the J.

Detroit really is a mess. They are the definition of pieces not fitting together.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:14
+/-

Heat check for Evan.

OK, I think it's safe to get Jrue back in there now. I'm afraid Collins will let the flow of the game dictate it, though. As long as this unit keep a little cushion, he'll let Jrue cool his heels. Last thing he wants is for him to be in foul trouble all game.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 20:17
+/-

Yea so far it's been alright.

why Speights out so quick? he was playing well

Good question.

user-pic
CB reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 20:21

Two fouls I assume.

This is a mess, they have to double McGrady with Meeks playing him.

Alright, get Jrue back in now. Little run for DET.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:21
+/-

One thing I notice about Evan is, he doesn't seem to be able to set other people up when having a chance at a break. It's either him or broke. No court awareness or something.

He did hit Nocioni for a wide-open look, had a sweet dime to Jrue the other night too.

good point. Also, I am scared whenever he tries to push the ball fast but the defense is quite set, always smell a TO coming, lol...

I think that's it though. He often is pushing the ball after he gets a board (where the defense has a much better chance to be set) than catching it off an outlet. I don't disagree that he isn't great in that area though.

haha have you seen Lou try to run a break?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:23
+/-

Doug's done put the shield up on Jrue ain't he?

Another J for Turner.

Jrue back in for Lou. JT at the 1/2.

Can't complain with how we've played without Jrue. Evan's held his own out there.

lol Charlie V

the second sissy hook falls for Hawes.

What the hell was Nocioni trying to do?

Pass, I think. Ugly.

Glad Jrue didn't take a foul there.

Ah just when you thought they started to pull away...

He should probably get Meeks back in if DET is going to stay in this zone. They're a horrible defensive squad, he should get a ton of wide open looks from three.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:28
+/-

We did a good job of holding the lead w/o Jrue, but just think how much we could have extended it with him.

Charlie V. is such a fatty. If I were a Detroit fan I'd petition to arrest the thief. He must have no pride or desire to ever be above average.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:30
+/-

Jrue is just finding people. Noc look was sick.

Pretty, pretty play drawn up by Collins there.

Sixers are doing a nice job of having a guy run the baseline against this zone. Nocioni and Brand have done it the most.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Rich on Jan 8 at 20:32
+/-

We gotta get used to other teams playing zone against us, especially since we don't have anyone other than Meeks who can shoot the 3 consistently, and even he is a real streaky shooter.

Jrue out w/ 2 minutes to go. Protecting him.

Gotta finish this half strong, now.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:31

Hawes wants Prince! But he stands there and look at him...lol but gives a nice and-one pass to Lou!

user-pic

Evan with another pull-up.

5/6 for Turner. Really needed that w/ Jrue's foul trouble.

user-pic

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:35

No call was right, after replay.

Fucking Violet Palmer. I have no problem w/ female officials, I have a huge problem with terrible officials.

EB looks like he doesn't have much lift tonight.

Alright, pretty much just treading water w/ the second unit w/out jrue on the floor through the quarter. Need Jrue to take over and push this into double digits quickly after the break.

PHI 56, DET 52 after two.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:37
+/-

Decent half, all things considered. Jrue has got to pick his spots playing D in the next half, nothing stupid. We don't win this if he sits that much again, I would think.

Jrue + ET in the first half = 8/11 FG, 1/2 3P, 5/5 FT, 4 REB, 7 AST, 2 STL, 3 TOV, 22 PTs.

gotta cut the turnovers

it's a shame we didn't make a stronger push here in the 2ns, their second unit is awful... should have been up in double digit already

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:54
+/-

Be smart Jrue, please.

OK, Jrue needs to stay out of foul trouble, and Collins needs to play him all 24 minutes this half.

Could there have been a lazier play than Hawes' foul on Charlie?

I thought the exact same thing. Pitiful.

Hawes looks lazier than usual tonight. Maybe Charlie V is rubbing off on him.

funny coincidence, we shot 23/39 and I'm pretty sure 23/39 is also the total of FGs by Meex, LW and Jrue in Chicago

Hawes is even worse today than he normally is. Frustrating.

user-pic
Alvin reply to AJ on Jan 8 at 20:58

And Speights actually did well in the first half. More Mo please.

Heh, Charlie V fouls Hawes on an 18-footer. That's quality.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 20:59

When Hawes misses both it'll be even funnier.

To me they're both equally worthless.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Alvin on Jan 8 at 21:01

Ok I admit I'm shocked Hawes made both. Charlie V is here to remind us it could be worse. At least Hawes is making much less and his contract expires at the end of the season.

It's an all-out competition to see who can play lazier: Charlie V and Hawes?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 20:58
+/-

That's OK Jrue, good not to pick up the foul there.

Jrue needs to be more involved in the offense. They're stagnant out there.

Hawes to the line for the third time this quarter. That has to be a personal best.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:00

Good d possession but they get a layin at the buzzer. ugh

Waaaay too much Hawes and Nocioni here to start the third.

Nocioni left-handed dribble drive.

Don't fucking pick up the fourth, Jrue.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:03

What happened on that inbound pass? I was typing.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:08

Come on Thad, good foul by Noc.

Bad pass by Thad there. They need to get something out of these hard doubles the Pistons are throwing at Jrue. Thad should've taken that right to the hoop, or just hit the 15-footer.

user-pic
Rich reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 21:11
+/-

What they need to do is run them with EB, who is the only reliable midrange shooter we have. Problem is I'm not sure he's up to it.

Turner in for Meeks, I think.

Shit, they're in the penalty already?

Hmmm just noticed these quotes from Collins in an article about Meeks from the game program yesterday, maybe it solves the mystery of why #20 is still getting so much playing time:

"He's the only guy on the team who can come flying off screens and catch the ball. He's really our only legitimate 'two-guard.' He's changed our team, given us a guy the other team has to be worried about. And he also takes good shots. More important, Jodie's a good defender. His defense is what's gotten him on the floor. Plus, he's tough, he has great energy and he's 'gutty.' He's not afraid to take the shot...if Jodie can keep emulating Ray Allen, I'll be the happiest man in the world."

hmm...

What do they do with Turner in? Let him run the point?

Think that was a pass to Brand, but it hand no chance of getting there even if it wasn't deflected by the first guy.

Great D by Jrue.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:14

Way to smother his ass Jrue. Good d.

Great defensive possession, it starts there.

Then a good slip by EB and find by Jrue.

Sick pass by Jrue. He let that play settle after the screen, when the defense went to help on thad he threaded the needle to EB for what would've been a dunk, if EB wasn't dead tired.

Need to find some fucking energy.

Have we seen Jrue attack once this half?

Nope.

user-pic
Rich reply to Brian on Jan 8 at 21:18

Not setting the world on fire here, but he's gotta start putting his head down and getting into the lane.

Nice change of direction dribble by Turner, he'll shoot 2.

Jrue's D has been very good tonight. The fouls kill you, but he's been all over these guys, challenging every shot.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:21

Great anticipation by Jrue, he just didn't get to it.

Back-and-forth third quarter. Sixers showed more life toward the end of the quarter.

PHI 74, DET 71 after three.

Please, please, please don't sit Jrue to start the fourth. If he plays every minute of the fourth, that's only 36 minutes for the game. They need him out there in the worst way.

Same play, just thad running it the second time. Pretty, actually.

Same play twice down, one for Lou and one for Thad.

Think Collins saw something? :)

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 21:27

Well-oiled machine boys. Let's go!

Wow, three straight baseline Js for the Sixers, three straight assists for Turner :)

Run that same play the next time down the floor, but when they close too hard, send a cutter right down the lane. Easy dunk, guaranteed.

Must be embarrassing for a coach to see a team run the same play 3 times in a row successfully against you.

Lou's working his ass off, just having trouble with Rip.

That's 10 assists for Jrue.

I'd love to see a statistical breakdown of Jrue driving to his left. He makes a killing going that way.

Great production off the bench. It's funny I remember reading something from Hollinger about the Sixers having one of the more productive benches mainly cause of Thad and Lou. But it's probably cause we have one of the worst starters in the league.

Heh, Monroe's going to have a headache after that.

I've never rendered a decision until now, but Thad's a keeper.

Well I'll be....

Lou was fouled with 39 seconds left. They're in the penalty. If they fucking turn this ball over on the inbound and Detroit scores I'm going to lose my mind.

This really is a shitty officiating crew. It's been a lot of jumpers tonight, so they haven't been a big part, but they don't look competent in the least.

What possible rationale could 3 NBA referees have for NOT putting Williams on the line?

Ugh, hit the second, Lou.

Just don't foul the three-point shooter. Contest everything.

3.5 seconds. I have no idea what I want here. Probably going to be lou pump-faking about 10 times then missing.

Woulda loved to have seen something for Turner, since he actually scored in this game.

Agreed. Can't believe Turner was on the bench for the last 6 minutes when he was actually playing well. And it's not like Nocioni stopped Prince.

At least he didn't pump fake before he rushed an off-balance three. Stupid.

Alright, 5-minute game.

PHI 99, DET 99 after regulation.

Didn't like that look from Lou. could have done better than that.

Just win this next five minutes. Are their any legs left? Thad's are I bet.

Winning this one will show me MAJOR sack.

What a horrible last possession by the Sixers. Is that really the best Collins coud come up with?? After the nice play the Pistons run on the other side?? Unbelievable man, thought we had this close game in the bag.

for real... 3 sec to take that shot ????

Good job Lou.

DC: "Lou, you had 3.5 seconds. Now please explain why you took a terrible fadeaway three."

Trust me Brian, Lou is Collins' guy right now. He's had the play go to him 90 percent of the time.

Times like this I miss Iggy. Honestly Prince is a tough matchup regardless with his length, but I think anyone would find it difficult to score on Iggy four times in a row.

LOL Lou. I know I bitched about Iggy's attempts to finish games, but yea. Haha.

So Lou blew two fucking layups, missed two icing free throws and threw up a terrible 3(!) as the final shot. At least Dre would've taken it to the hole and threw up a terrible shot.

We're gettting decent looks, just nothing's falling.

We have to win this game....

I hate Lou Williams game dc needs to keep him on the bench

Wonder if they'll get shut out in overtime.

It wasn't like he was stopping the offense, Every play was called for him, he got his usual looks. Just couldn't make them.

Wait a second, what the fuck is going on? That was the Sixers' second foul of OT, and Monroe went to the line.

What a waste of a game. 3 games lost to the likes of Nic Young, Cartier Martin, and Austin Daye.

It was really nice of Lou to run his man right to Meeks on that play. Awesome.

If you're going to foul, why wait 7 seconds?

take him out please

Still drawing up plays for Lou, huh? That's awesome.

Well, he fouled out. Can't do any more damage tonight.

WWWHHHYYYYY???????

I hate Lou. That is all.

For all of those yelling at Lou, it really just comes down to missing those FT's. He has a bad shooting game with some clutch plays (Especially the charge) if he makes one of those.

Criticizing his offense is fruitless, he is who he is. The crucial mistake was not switching onto to Daye fast enough in the corner.

The real problem in my eyes is why Jrue went so quiet. Just another day as a Sixer fan.

user-pic
Xavier reply to Rich on Jan 8 at 22:24

not all Lou's fault. Drawing up plays to someone who is on fire (FG 5/17) is a bad mistake.

Yeah I agree on that, he did have every play going to him. I wish it would be Jrue making decisions. Oh well.

- I guess Doug's just giving Lou a game to step up in and take over. And he's failing.

Lou had to foul-out earlier. Only way to get him out of the game or to stop shooting.

user-pic
Charlie H reply to AJ on Jan 8 at 22:22

funny.

Turner: "That's how it's done son"

And of course Evan hits a three. Fucking Lou.

Aaand, we didn't need the timeout there. We're stil trailing by 4. Even if we make a 3, the time out would've been better after the next pair of FT's. Plus, Turner would've caught the Pistons off guard there, off of a missed FT. Horrible coaching down the stretch.

Don't like that timeout. Should've run with it off the rebound. Get the three in transition, then save the timeout for the FTs and a chance to tie. Doesn't matter, though. Fuck it.

YESSSSSS. Come on, we deserve this.

Holy shit. Meeks!

I predict after these free throws, I bet the sixers don't get a clean look, maybe a 30 foot heave.

Can't let them burn any time here. Foul immediately on the catch. You don't have the timeout, get the ball to Jrue or Turner and let them run it up the court, make or miss.

So we put Brand in for TURNER?????????????????????? REALLY????????????

6.6 seconds. Come on.

Jesus, Doug looks like he's going to have a stroke.

Why is turner out?

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 8 at 22:27

Disappointed as hell in how this thing swung with the 2 Daye threes, but that's all it takes some time. The b-2-b wasn't the primary factor, the few plays were. Just a few plays here and there. I still like what I see from the group. Andre coming back needs to be a complement and an enhancement. Tough, tough one on a diehard though.

Doug's doing a helluva job and there isn't more you can ask for as a fan. Feels like Cunningham is coaching with the passion he exudes, along with the strategizing.

Damn, that one really did hurt.

Why was Turner out of the game?

I hope everyone rots.

PHI 109, DET 112 Fucking final.

Hard to kill Jodie, but there's no reason he steps inside the arc there. He wasn't aware.

Meeks got hit by two guys on that heave. Can we call this the Trade Lou game?

user-pic
Charlie H reply to TS on Jan 8 at 22:38

Can we call this the Trade Lou game?

Uh, yeah.

Dammit. This loss stings, specially with the Bucks winning and Detroit being a horrible team. It drives me crazy everytime Lou just keeps shooting and shooting and Collins never has a leash on him. I know Jrue should have been more aggressive, but Collins had to take Lou out half-way through the OT. And there is no reason for Turner no to be out there for the last 6 minutes.
Of course, we wouldn't have this discussion if Lou makes those 2 FT's...
But still, horrible coaching. Can someone please explain to me why Turner is out of the game for the final play? He just made one of the 3's to put the game within reach, and you take him out? To keep Young in there??? The last ridiculous mistake in a flurry of blunders for Collins there. He's a good coach, but he seems to become a moron from time to time.

user-pic
Rich reply to AJ on Jan 8 at 22:32

I do agree about Collins making mistakes from time to time. They are always very well prepared, but his late game moves can be head-scratchers. He's a pretty emotional guy, so maybe that's it.

Collins and Lou tag team for this loss. At least Evan played well I suppose.

Funny how the 2 guys that pushed them over the top yesterday late (Lou, Noc) were dreadful tonight, probably ended up costing them the game. That's how it goes for a team that's at best, .500 I suppose...

Single skill players have hot nights, and they look good, when that skill isn't working - they suck - this is Lou - this has ALWWAYS been lou - lou williams is the new willie green - they're going to play him no matter what even though when his shot isn't falling he should sit

...shouldn't this game not have gotten to OT anyways though because of that foul they didn't get shots on? Sure hope someone (Tom Moore or Kate hopefully) asks a few Qs about that...

They got FT's .5 seconds later - Lou missed em both.

So in a lot of ways this loss is more cheering to me than last night's win. Our #2 pick plays maybe his best all-around game; last night he does nothing. Jrue has a game that makes potential top 5 point guard talk slightly less ridiculous; last night, as many turnovers as assists. Speights scores efficiently; maybe he's not a total lost cause. At least he may still have some trade value. We get killed on the boards; that will happen sometimes when you have the league's worst center, play him 18 minutes, and one of your best rebounders (Iguodala) is out. Lou sucked; oh well, the future of this team hopefully won't involve Lou anyway. Last night we won largely on the backs of players who have no long-term future with the team; tonight we lose to a lousy team, but the guys who actually comprise our core going forward played really well.

user-pic
Rich reply to Tray on Jan 9 at 3:11
+/-

See I didn't like that Jrue stopped initiating offense at the end. That's what kills me. The guy is great all game, and we're mostly living and dying with Lou at the end of regulation. If Collins wants to just play matchups, I get that. If he anoints Lou (or even Iguodala) "the guy" during crunch time, I don't know about it. No offense to Lou (whose bad play kind of spiraled after the missed FTs), but I'd rather try and win on Jrue's back.

Even though I'm not happy at all that they lost, the young guys did play well. The second loss in Washington was much tougher. Jrue is playing great ball and Turner played great, so there are positives. This team has had plenty of gut-wrenching losses though.

user-pic
johnrosz on Jan 8 at 23:45

call me crazy I wanted ET with the ball in his hands at the end of regulation. He was creating off his dribble all night. Instead we got Lou taking the worst shot I've ever seen.

user-pic
Rich reply to johnrosz on Jan 9 at 3:15

Turner was great tonight, no getting around that. I really can't wait for the season to end in his regard. If he works his ass off in the gym this summer (500 jumpers a day) and gets with a good shooting coach who can help him get better rotation on the ball, tonight could be a much more common occurrence. He can create space for his jumper whenever he wants.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Jan 9 at 0:28

What the hell was the deal with the crummy refereeing near the end there? They foul us for the third time (which is the penalty in overtime, no?), and we get side-out again? We commit our second of overtime and their big shoots freebies? Anyone later w/ DVR would be helpful, that was confusing.

Even though Doug tantrumed when our guy didn't get to go to the line, Lou still got fouled on the subsequent play and couldn't make them count after still being fortunate to get them.

I've never been a fan of that particular female official. I don't even mean that to be sexist in any way, although I'm sure it could be construed as such. I feel like she refs with a chip on her shoulder, example, giving Ben Wallace a tech with about a minute and a half left in the 4th quarter. You don't see that type of call in the guts of the game unless someone really loses their cool...

They were really letting things go within 2 minutes, thought Lou could've gotten a call at the rim on 2 or 3 different occasions.

Not the best crew, but like you said,Lou just had to make one free throw and none of this would be an issue.

Wallace deserved the tech, time left in the game is on him, i'm tired of people thinking the rules change based on time left in the game.
