Learning from the NFL

Philadelphia 76ers
PG: Jrue Holiday/Lou Williams
SG: Evan Turner/Jodie Meeks
SF: Andre Iguodala/Andres Nocioni
PF: Elton Brand/Craig Brackins/Lavoy Allen
C: Spencer Hawes/Nikola Vucevic

Strengths: The 76ers are deep in the backcourt and on the wings, with a nice mix of players and skillsets. Jrue Holiday is one of the best young point guards in the league while Lou Williams is one of the best bench scorers in the league. Evan Turner is starting to come into his own at the 2 and Jodie Meeks shot 44% from three last year. Andre Iguodala is one of the most underrated players in the league on the wing. Elton Brand, finally healthy, started to show some of his old self last season. Thaddeus Young, a restricted free agent, is one of the best 6th men in the league.

Weaknesses: Despite all the talent on their roster, the pieces don't always fit together and there's some duplication on the perimeter. I don't think they have to make a trade, but if one come up that is a better fit or fills a need at center, where Spencer Hawes is just ok and first round pick Nikola Vucevic is unproven, then they should pull the trigger.

Priorities: Resigning Young has got to be the very first thing Philadelphia does this offseason. Young is one of the more exciting players in the league, still has a high upside, and is productive and efficient to boot. The 76ers don't have the cap space to be big players in free agency, so they'll be spending a lot of time fielding trade offers.

haha - they don't even list Speights

...doesn't the sale still have to be approved by the Board of Governors? Any idea if/when that can happen during a lockout?

It does, it can and it will. Only time frame I've seen is a couple of months from Kate Fagan
