Sixers

, all the time

I think Jodie and Turner both have pretty big games tonight. I'll go with Jodie hitting five threes and scoring about 20 with ET giving us 12, 5, and 5.

Yeah, I'm just keeping a mental list of all the Bobcats I made fun of in the preview, because I know one of them will have a career night.

I would really enjoy a statement performance from Jrue on the defensive end against Augustin because he lit Jrue up once last year. Oh well, I guess Kemba could go bonkers. Not really counting on it though. He's in love with the long two like Jrue, just not as good at it.

augustin is hurt and isnt playing

Aware of that, didn't make it clear. That's why I was talking about Kemba.

Believe it or not, I hope our bench isn't critical in this matchup. It would be great to see Lou, Thad, Voos, and Evan not even be necessary. I also want to see EB get some rest too, but after reading Holiday piece a couple days back I'm hoping he and Meeks spend some time working on their game in this game. We'll for sure need those guys in the coming weeks. Especially as the Celts and Knicks appear to be finally finding their way...

The Bobcats are missing most of their key pieces = we should be ok,

joey crawford is one of the refs tonight

@rick_bonnell: Refs for Bobcats-Sixers include Dick Bavetta and Joey Crawford -- 2 best officials in the NBA.

heh.

After last game I'm wondering if the Sixers winning means they are starting to get the benefit of the doubt from the refs against other low profile teams.

anyone know of any link for this game after the feds takedown of firstrow?

Kemba, when DJ's out, I think.

Kemba's starting, right? I'll look it up.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Feb 13 at 19:10

Kemba and Reggie starting in the backcourt. That's the MJ effect, heh.

Pretty bad slate of games tonight. Guess I'm rooting for Rubio and Love to beat the Magic, and then the Bucks to take their third game of the year from Miami.

Wow, Kemba 32% FG in 9 starts as PG.

Yep, Lavoy and Brand up front.

Aaaaaand we're off...Lavoy never stood a chance on that tip.

Lavoy starting on Diaw, Brand draws Bismack, which makes sense.

Good up fake, Jrue.

Strong D, 24-sec violation.

Jrue in the post. Just got it over Biyombo.

jrue from the post

Jrue to the hole. Nice.

Reggie Williams came in shooting 16% from three. Hits his first, of course. Meeks misses a long two on the other end.

It's been so consistent, even after he missed those couple games, it looks like he's not getting enough elbow extension, not that he had a lot of that anyway. His stuff's always been sort of flat coming off. I fail to believe that his legs are the sole reason.

Love these Bobcats commentators. Awkward segue from Kemba Walker's floppish head-jerk to Whitney Houston's demise accomplished in about five seconds.

Bad defensive 2nd quarter, just allowing the ball to get too deep initially on several possessions. No way these scrubs should have that many points in any quarter.

Andre would be well served to get his stuff together. This game is similar to Saturday's vs the Cavs. Jrue, Lou, and Thad's shoulders getting heavy. Those guys could use some help.

How the hell we let the Bobcats score 45 in a half?

28 in the 2nd qtr. That is about 10 more points than they should be scoring.

28 in the second quarter. 19 trips to the line for them in the first half. Gotta clean that shit up.

Meh, I'd say the overreactions are more from the crowd when he does the most miniscule of things good. I wouldn't consider it an overreaction to say he looked like shit tonight. There were reasons why he barely played. No impact on the game whatsoever.

Lou was dominating the ball for the most part when he was in there. Would like to see him more with iggy and jrue. It seems like doug is set on this lou jodie turner lineup that hasnt exactly lit it up

Yeah sure, you're objective.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to MCT on Feb 13 at 21:38

OK then, let's hear your "objective" analysis of his game tonight? How do you spin that?

I would agree he didn't make much of an impact, but I would not agree that he "looked like shit", save for that bad turnover and weak foul on the other end. He wasn't out there long enough to look like shit. He had 4, 4, and 2, and one TO in less than 15 minutes. Not great, not bad. Not even worth commenting on really, you just do it to start shit with other people.

A simply PERFECT response.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to MCT on Feb 13 at 21:50

So untrue with your ending statement. You just take the stuff waaaayyyyyy too personally with this average player, for whatever reason. You get so offended at even the slightest negative truths of him, as you just admitted in your very first sentence by saying he had no impact yourself. Hence, my initial commment of saying no one will want to trade for a player that has minimal to no impact.

For the record, I don't make objective comments on players on this team, positive or negative, to "start shit with others". We're all fans of the same team here. You just allow yourself to get all riled up for no apparent reason, get over yourself already. That, or stop parading around like Turner's your damn son or something, and you don't like others in the bleachers at a high school game to rightfully critique him. Geez...that's exactly what it's remindful of. "shhhhhh y'all, there's his dad right over there..."

How about Iguodala scoring 3 points against the worst team in the NBA? Jrue with only 1 assist? Jodie shooting only 4-12 with zero assists in 30+ minutes?

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to MCT on Feb 13 at 21:54
+/-

And to show you how foolish you look, scan back up the game thread and see what I said about Andre at halftime, and Jrue around the middle of the 4th quarter, And Jodie taking bad shots multiple times. Where's your whiny outcry when I rightfully and OBJECTIVELY critiqued them? You sure were mighty quiet with your trigger when I made those dead-on comments.

But Evan? Oh, boy, don't say nothing about him...........

You made an incorrect statement about Turner. He didn't play enough to look good or bad tonight. He made a bad play, that's it. Your statement implied that he and Lavoy looked the worst tonight and it was bullshit as usual.

I could care less about Evan Turner personally, I hate when people overreact to anyone. For years Iguodala got the unnecessary hate and I defended him (not here but elsewhere).

Hey now, just calm yourself down, stop getting all riled up and learn to accept Eddies' Heady's completely fair, objective critiquing of Turner.

It's not a Meeks vs. Turner debate. It's really just about Turner.

Guess it's not as interesting as you and Tray debating how "efficient" Kevin Love is.

It's going on 25 comments now, and it really isn't about anything on the floor. It's about you saying Eddies' doesn't like Turner. That's not terribly interesting. And Kevin Love is an extremely efficient scorer. Those threads never go more than 4 comments long before Tray has to admit he's wrong.

btw, 19 points on 19 possessions for Love tonight, which is not efficient.

Tray reply to Brian on Feb 13 at 22:52

Have I admitted that yet? I think I always back up to my "well, he's less efficient than all the other superstars" position.

.584 TS% with a 27.4% usage rate.

Kobe had one season in his entire career w/ a TS% that high.

Love is pretty close to Durant right now. Better than Wade's best season ever. Pretty much LeBron and Dwight are the only superstars consistently better than that number.

Alright, well I'm pretty fucking tired with it myself. I'm not even that big of a Turner fan, I just dislike eddie's.

I'm not commenting on Evan Turner again, good or bad. I've lost the battle,

Argh. Leave it alone.

To be honest, I don't give a damn what you think about Turner...but I do care what Collins thinks about him...and the combination of the way he has been using Turner lately as well as the way that it seems like other players get more rope to fuck up than Turner does out there (as very clearly demonstrated in the 3rd quarter tonight) suggests to be that he's not very focused on helping Turner get his confidence back.

Unfortunately, Turner's probably too stubborn or proud to do a Meeks and go into DC's office and ask him to run a couple of plays for him to help him get his game back.

If you don't give a damn what I think about Evan Turner, you sure have the oddest ways of showing it.

But Andre had 9 assists, and Jrue had a decent night regardless of assists. I honestly think that it does not matter how many assist Jrue has as long as either Andre or Lou or Evan make up for it.

My objective call is ever since Collins lit Turner the fuck up in front of EVERYBODY after the Orlando ame, Turner has played like ass. While it is up to Turner to sack up and stop his passive-aggssive shit 25 feet from the basket, the minutes and substitution rotations that Collins is sticking up his ass aren't exacly reflecting a coach who wants to help a player get his confidence back.

That 3rd quarter was a bunch of EPIC FAIL by several Sixers...I guess I must have missed those apoplectic reactions and quick hooks of players by Collins when that was happening. Did you see them?

Agree completely. Allen is coming back to earth and Brand can't make a shot right now. Thad has really played well of late and been the most consistent player on this team. Turner has to do better when he's in there, but he's not exactly put in the greatest situation.

I really liked the character we showed down the stretch. The Bobcats made some lucky shots and had some calls go there way, but Lou Will Vucevic Thad and Jrue all stepped up to take over the game. It's great to see this young team continue to grow.

I'm sort of tired of every post being about Turner. The guy is a role player for this team. We all hope he will become a key player for their future. But is it really worth dissecting every second he plays or does not play each night.

Honestly, ET has had little effect one way or another on the outcome of most Sixers games this year. The Sixers are in the hunt for the best record in the East. I'm not saying ET discussion is irrelevant, but it is excessive.

They guy will likely be a Sixer for at least the next 3 years, probably longer. He averages close to 25 minutes a game. We will eventually get to see what he will become- but right now he is not worth the endless arguments.

on a side note; I really like the JTIBT lineup we put at the end on games, but it seems like since DC declared 'Lou is our 4th quarter guy', he is pressed to put him in the 4th regardless of whether he is playing well or not.

Disagree about Turner being irrelevant. Hopefully he gets it together; when do we play Miami next?

You are not disagreeing with me since I did not say he was irrelevant.

to Sixers wins, that is.
I think his size and defensive presence make our 4th qtr lineups more intimidating.
But to avoid an argument about semantics; yes not disagreeing.

If you go back to that stretch earlier in the season when we were seeing a LOT of JTI closing games (and looking at some of Lou's body language getting pulled out of games in the 4th quarter and sitting on the bench in favor of JTI), I wonder if there was a creeping concern that if Lou was going to lose a lot of quality 4th quarter burn, that player option for next year was going to look sweeter and sweeter to him. It seems like ever since he Denver game (where ET w in for all of crunchtime, and Lou had a season-low 19 minutes), there has been a material shift in the minutes between the two of them...and since the Orlando game (with the exception of the game at Atlanta), Turner's minutes have fallen off pretty dramatically and he is getting shitty rotations to boot.

In he first 17 games, Turner averaged 26.5 minutes a game...a level that he has only reached ONCE in he past 11 games (he's fallen to 18.6 minutes/game), and other than the end of blowouts, has he been in at the end of the game ONCE during the past 3 weeks?

I don't know what is going on in Collins' head right now. I don't think that everything shouuld revolve around Turner, but it is clear that the guy who was playing material minutes and closing games the first month of the season is on the outside looking in right now, and I have no freaking clue why. And with Collins not saying anything about it (and with people like Cooney not ASKING him about it), all we have to go on is 1) his SHARPLY reduced minutes and 2) that explosion in Turner's grill at the end of the Orlando game. Could Turner take his dress off and play harder? Absolu-freaking-lutely. But Collins should be thinking of ways to get the guy who was playing pretty well the first month of the season back...and giving him TWO minutes in the 2nd half Friday night (and yanking him after Evans beat him to that loose ball...after Lou and Meeks had just played like ASS before he got into the game) does not seem to be the best strategy.

It is a long season...I hope that Collins figures out a way to get the Evan Turner of the first month of the season back....we will need him in April and May.

I agree with everything you said. It's a downright shame when ONE, one comment is made that is not off base in the slightest about the guy who's on MY favorite team that I feel like making a comment about, the aliases fly. Funny, disturbing, but really tiring as you said.

I've refrained from making hardly any comments about Evan Turner this year on here for the very reasons you speak of. And go and make one measly comment, granted it was truthful and not biased or slanted and the nerves are immediately razzled and fired up. Sad, but true.

That's the depressedfan reality it seems. It's been like that for a year and a half - just as long as it's taken Evan Turner to prove to be a mediocre, average, very inconsistent player night in and night out. Guess it will only cease when he finally gets on another team and the lovers will see he was what he was, or they'll probably think that coach has it out for him too.

It's easily glossed over that if Evan Turner was really that good, don't you think Doug Collins would play the guy to help him and the team win? Don't you think Brian James, Michael Curry, and Aaron McKie, and even Rod Thorn, Tony DiLeo, and Courtney Witte would somehow convince Doug that he was as stupid as the few on here think he is regarding ET? And that ET was really that great? I do.

you're trying too hard; here's your problem.

Nicki: I hate that guy Chad, he's SUCH a narcissist.
1 day later
Nicki: Uggh who the hell does that Chad think he is?
Next day
Nicki: Uggh. my goodness, you would not BELIEVE what that asshole Chad did to me today?

Nicki's per-pubescent teenage friends: Err, do you like Chad, Nicki?

And for someone they've never met, or know, that's best defined as egocentric.

On a lighter note, the Sixers game on Friday night is an ESPN game. Yay!

I've officially unfollowed Adam Aron on Twitter. There, I said it.

Heh. I think the Wilt thing is kind of cool, actually. Though I wasn't a big fan of reading about it while the Sixers were shitting the bed in the fourth quarter.

Wilt thing is very cool. Answering questions with RT's like what time the game is and who is singing the anthem all day is not.

Except it really isn't arguments, it's just a never-ending cry-me-a-river contest.

Ugh. The Sixers won tonight. They didn't win because of something Evan Turner did or didn't do. They didn't lose because of something Turner did or didn't do. Turner got pulled from the game for making a really bad pass and then compounding it with a really bad foul. Jrue has been pulled from games for that type of sequence as well. This is really a non-issue. They won the fucking game.

Any take on Bismack?

Not a whole lot. I think it's a stretch to think he's ever going to be more than a guy who will dunk if he gets the ball w/in 8 feet of the hoop and put back a bunch of offensive boards on the offensive end. Defensively, I still think he's going to be a game-changer. Needs seasoning, though. And needs to cut down on the three second violations.

Agreed. And I'm a little flummoxed by all the arguing going on around this point.

I mean, at the end of the day, Evan Turner is a mediocre-scoring, strong rebounding, ball-distributing wing right now. His defense is solid. His shot might improve (or might not). His passing is particularly useful since we don't have a proper back-up PG. Once in awhile he makes an unbelievable move going to the basket.

He's definitely improved from last season and I think that improvement has been worth at least a win or two for us. At the same time, the potential for stardom doesn't seem exceptionally high.

Does it really matter anymore that we used the 2nd pick on him? It's not like we've got the option to re-do the thing.

Jeremy Lin is a future hall of famer. (Just trying to break the ET cycle)

Pls. have at it.

Just curious on how they closed tonight. Lou seems to be scoring well down the stretch, but why was Voose in? I'm happy he did a nice job, but they kept Brand on the bench if I'm not mistaken. Why was that?

Brand was horrible tonight. No legs at all. Voose was the only viable option at the five, imo.

user-pic
Rich reply to Brian on Feb 13 at 23:09

It's nice to see Voose step up in a spot when he hadn't been playing well the last few games, and struggled tonight for awhile. Nice luxury to have while Hawes is out, especially if/when Hawes stinks again on the glass.

Does anyone else find themselves looking at this page from time to time, just to kind of marvel at it?

Yes. And this is the first time this season I've thought the records reflected the proper order of the top 8 teams in the East. Nice to see that the sixers have had fairly convincing wins against the three teams immediately below them (to say nothing of the one at the top).

I ususally marvel at the one on yahoo! just because of my fantasy draft.

eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Feb 13 at 23:25

Ha, yep, and when I do look at it, I just can't figure out how the two teams immediately below the Sixers only have one less loss when taking into account our head to head matchups vs them. I have to believe those two will be in the lower playoff seeds rather than the middle when it ends up.

One thing I've noticed about Jrue this year that he had a propensity to do often in years' prior - he doesn't try to jump pass anymore. Thought about this when reading the Jrue post this morning.

Paul Silas apparently believes this would have been a 119-98 Bobcats win if only they'd had Henderson and Augustin:

"I keep saying that once we get everybody back, we're going to be good," Silas said. "We had a 20-point scorer tonight in Corey Maggette and that's the first time we've had a 20 point scorer in I don't know when. So, if you give me back 15 from D.J. Augustin and 15 from Gerald Henderson, that's 30 points we're missing. I think we'll be a lot better."

@Jim_Eichenhofer Eric Gordon will undergo arthro. surgery on right knee tomorrow. He will be out up to 6 weeks from now

Past the deadline, then.

Spencer Hawes for Eric Gordon?

Spence can veto any trade he's a part of, and he would. New team wouldn't have Bird Rights to re-sign him. Also, why in the world would New Orleans do that?

him and kaman on the same team would be one of the funniest things ever

As long as that team isn't the Sixers I'd crack up.
