Sixers

, all the time

This is the one matchup where I say this in complete honesty/worry...what's wrong w/ Battie? He plays Howard pretty well. We could really use him...

The new guy from the Inquirer said he rolled his ankle in practice. Guess he's questionable.

That probably means it happened about a week ago, if Mitchell was the one reporting it today.

i would love if they could try to get the line early and get Howard in foul trouble

So now Mitchell tweets that Collins says Hawes might not play til after the All Star break. That's extremely different from "We hope to have him back Friday." WTF. Which one is it?

Now they say he is going to another specialist and definitely won't play before all star break. great.

I have written off Hawes as becoming a contributing member of this team. I hope to be proven wrong but it feels like even when he does come back from injury, he will most likely play like the Hawes of old. I'm not excited about that prospect yet. If the news of him playing dinged up last year was any accurate then it seems we may not see the Super-Hawes we witnessed at the start of the season. He just has the feel of an injury prone player now. I am already thinking of how they can move on after this season when they let him walk.

Blessing in disguise, these injuries this year.

Orlando feed on LP tonight. Goukas actually mentioned the rotation charts we do here one time, but didn't name the blog.

Anybody heard from gosixers I noticed he's been mia

Have a good vibe about this one, for some reason.

Aaaand we're off. Lavoy loses the tap.

Lavoy in the middle, I haven't heard if Battie is active or not. If he isn't, they don't have a ton of fouls to spread around up front, should they choose to go that route.

Brand on Howard to start, but you can never tell by the first possession.

Jodie front rim three.

eb jumper

Good board, Lavoy.

EB, net.

Going after Jodie w/ Richardson. If that continues, go to Turner or switch Jrue onto him.

Might want to guard out to the fence, no? geez

Timeout Doug!

call a timeout now

Collins, you might want to rip some ass in this timeout. And get an entirely new unit in there.

Okay, if no one is gonna hit shots, this game will be over after the first 12 minutes.

Does anyone know why I can only get audio on my LP Broadband? Video is available for every game but this one. Same thing Monday night.

No idea, but that blows.

this is looking like one hell of a beatdown."NO OPEN THREES."

Well, that start was miserable.

Two guys hard trouble with cutters moving off Howard (Meeks-Lavoy) that lead to easy twos. I think Thad is the logical guy to play Andersen when he's in the game. That last three was way too easy.

Also, we are getting good shots for the most part. Hate Jrue stepping in for a long two. AI9 needs to be aggressive. He got hacked on that one move. Should have been shooting 2.

user-pic

Feels like it should be more of a lead for them. Bench has to bring it like never before here. Hopefully DH goes to the bench soon. Maybe we'll get out of jack it up from deep mode, if so.

Garbage hoops thwarting a big push. Thad played great D, and may have been a little unlucky, but that board has to be ours.

Did Big Baby draw a foul there? Voose was backing up it seemed.

Jrue playing good defense on Reddick this quarter

Yeah, chasing him all over the floor through those screens. Keep it up, can't have any lapses.

ET triple double watch? 3/5/4 already. As weird as it sounds points may be the hardest for him.

This fucking telethon is killing me.

Turner's off balance there. I really don't like the way he's going about things offensively right now. That was like it was pre-programmed that he was going to shoot and he rushed it. He needs to take his time and get his feet under hi, and if they crowd him, go the fuck by. He can't win playing like a robot.

I realize Vuc is trying not to commit a foul, but he doesn't even seem to want to jump to contest a shot by DH. And it's not a bad thing if he doesn end up fouling the guy.

That was a pretty bad effort from Voose. I know he's over-matched, but those were way too easy, at least the first 2.

hot damn

jrue's offense is fucking awful tonight. I thought he was turning the corner these past couple games

PHI 39, ORL 55 at the half.

10-0 run to end the quarter for Orlando. Fuck this shit.

I can't believe how bad the passing and transition defense was there. Dominate a quarter and lose it that fucking easy. Come on.

Wow what an end to the quarter.

as hopeless as it seems; it's pretty simple to come back and win this game - just gotta stop those threes and contain Howard. not impossible.

turnovers + transition 3s = ballgame so far.

I guess this is what the sixers look like when they turn the ball over as much as an average nba team.

.671 efg for ORL in the first half. That's probably not going to cut it, folks.

Here's a recap: Starters are awful together, bench battles sloppiness to make it a game, and then have the worst minute thirty of the season to take it all away.

Jrue -24 in the first half. Eww

Probably our fault for talking about his splits so much this week.

user-pic
Rich reply to re18954 on Feb 15 at 20:10

His penchant to pass up open threes for long twos is especially maddening when the offense is bogged down. If he starts taking a few more threes, then he'll get to the rim. Teams are smart, they'll give him long twos. If he makes a three though, they'll run him off that.

user-pic
re18954 reply to Rich on Feb 15 at 20:12

It starts with the defense. If we can keep them off the three point line, we'll have a chance to win this game.

user-pic

Meeks with good D on Richardson. So much for Meeks' "horrible defense" according to spiller

Don't think one play will dispel that. It's a tough matchup for Meeks though, JRich is much bigger and stronger.

Is it just me or does the entire defense seem as if they have no idea what they are supposed to be doing out there?

Seems like right before the game started Collins said ” Maybe we'll switch on screens, maybe we won't. Maybe we'll play the shooters, maybe we'll focus on Howard. Just figure it out when you guys get out there.”

every time you think the sixers are going to even it up they do something dumb. at least their being consistent

Can't believe how good Brand's post defense is on Howard. Using guile, strength, and some jedi mind tricks to make it a tough hook shot every time.

2nd time Turner closed out too hard on Redick. Really should be closing out to his right hand and make him beat you left.

Much much better quarter there. I think we pull this one out and show what strides we've made as a team

PHI 70, ORL 79 after three.

Good quarter overall, should've been better. Another bad close. Iguodala took a couple bad shots after that hot start. Need to get all the way back if Dwight is sitting to start the fourth.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Rich on Feb 15 at 20:48

Yeah that was my issue, he wasn't set if he was taking a baby step after the offensive man had elevated into his shot. That's just stepping under him, and not a clear cut charge, to me.

Other one was planted though. As long as you have position, it's a charge.

Ugh, Jrue's been awful tonight. Why would you slow down and then go right through his chest?

No rest for Dwight.

Hit the freebies, Lou.

Get Jrue out. He's just been terrible tonight.

I do like the agressiveness from turner, even though they may not be going in, i think this helps long term

Aggressiveness with an average jumper would be better. Hes brutal outside 15 feet.

Taking a bunch of bad jumpers doesn't qualify as aggressiveness in my book. It qualifies as trying to get his.

I'm not defending turner's shot selection tonight, but what I watched him do tonight is no worse than what lou does on almost a nightly basis.

Turner is also in his second year. Its a learning curve, the same way vuc will learn to play better defense on howard

For the last time, Andre, that is not your fucking shot

Orlando announcer's ongoing inability to pronounce "Nikola Vucevic" is a grim source of amusement in this game.

Someone other than Turner needs to be running the point here. And that was a dumb foul, Voose.

Thad with two plays that probably put the game in the coffin. A missed layup and a horrible bail out. Why the fuck did he reach? GO STRAIGHT UP.

Feels like we should be losing by more

Thank you Lou.

Can we trade for Ryan Anderson instead of Dwight Howard?

How fucking hard is it to stick to one guy?

just not our night.
AT ALL.

I thought they would lose, but man that was such a bad effort.

in what's been a relatively disappointing season for jrue this has been his most disappointing game.

I can't believe how bad the collective effort from Jrue, Turner, Allen and Voose was. All of those guys stunk up the joint tonight.

Voose is the least bad of the 4, but he needs to realize he has 6 fouls. He can't let big guys score that easily on him.

Score differential just got much more reflective of the game the sixers have been playing. Lou was awesome tonight, Vuc was okay, Brand was meh, everyone else was just godawful.

As pissed off as I am about this game, we have to forget about it and beat Dallas.

PHI 87, ORL 103 Final.

Terrible, terrible game tonight. Shake it, be ready for the champs on Friday.

jason terry out friday(personal)

Alright, I'm over being mad, as bad as that game was. That was an absolutely horrible effort on the defensive end. As bad as the defense was, that was an absurdly hot shooting night by Orlando. It balances out when the Sixers put the chains on them. Rebound and beat Dallas, then this can be forgiven if you learn from it.

I do hope Collins figures out that he will lose every time he doesn't start Thad against these guys. He is on the only big guy on the team who can stick with Anderson. Those are free points when Lavoy or Brand is playing him.

Could be worse, could be losing by 20 to the Cavs like Indy is.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Feb 15 at 21:20

Amidst all the made, or given up, threes. Thought Doug had two critical situations. He left, or rather started, Lavoy out there too long to start the 3rd on Anderson, and probably the beginning of the game too before he took that long awaited timeout. He should have gotten Thad in earlier. And because Jrue was still in Charlotte tonight, and after he picked up those two charges, Doug left Evan out there too long to start the 4th, though that doesn't excuse Evan from jacking up way-too-early ill-advised bad jumpers.

Seems if he would have just subbed one of those situations there, and probably not been so emotional with Jrue for fucking up consistently and getting him back in there, may have been different. Oh well.

Hindsight in 20/20, but Jrue didn't look like he had anything tonight. It's alright to bring back Lou in a close game when he plays a bad game because he can catch fire. Jrue doesn't really have the look of a guy who plays like shit for 25 minutes and gives you a killer last 7.

They were probably going to lose anyway, after giving up those threes in the 3rd when they were making a run. Keeping Lavoy on Andersen is what looms largest to me.

Also, I thought SVG overextended by playing Howard 41 minutes tonight. Not really though, because he averages 38 a game after checkin.

On another note, find it hard for people to predict huge things for Tyreke Evans and Cousins. A lot of horrible basketball they are playing for future franchise guys. They are going to get better obviously, but don't see how two shot happy players who can't defend turn a team into a contender. Funny part is that sort of is what OKC started as. Don't see it with these guys though.

Can the Pistons finish this and help out? Sure hope so....

Evan Turners jumpshot is officially BROKE!! If he isn't being aggressive and attacking the rim he isn't effective at all.

So basically he just isn't effective at all then.

Don't know how many games in a row it has been, but Lou has been on an absolute tear. Scoring, and especially dishing. I mentioned it earlier in the year when Jodie was struggling, I would really like to see Lou inserted into the starting lineup between Jrue and Andre, if Jodie can be hidden on defense so can Lou.

2nd unit would obviously suffer a little, but if Turner could become better at setting guys up and just making open shots in general spelling Jrue, the dropoff may not be that much with Thad still getting his and Jodie making a few. But if you stagger the substitutions a little differently at PG when Jrue goes out, just shift Lou over to ball-handling duties when Jodie or Evan come in, it may work itself out if Evan doesn't do well running point initially.

Collins' reaction postgame when asked if Jrue just didn't have it tonight, "I don't know, I guess" was another one of those non-answers where he gives himself away with body language. it was pretty funny.

Boston has been kind of living by the 3 this year haven't they?

We've been living on long twos now that teams aren't turning the ball over against us. It seems like the only guard we have that can penetrate is Lou Williams.

New York is starting to base their game on the PnR which is scary because they have two talented bigs that we can't defend.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Stan on Feb 15 at 22:58

It's really frustrating to me that we rarely run pick and rolls. I don't know if it's because we don't have sufficient big men, or Jrue just isn't adept at doing it (I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be unless it's the fear of bad passes/turnovers). Jrue and Thad should have no problem running at least several a game. Thad and Lou will run some occasionally on the side of the court, but they just don't let those two run them enough. Heck, you just don't really see that much of pick and popping with Jrue and EB, or Andre and EB, or even one of them and Thad since Thad is supposedly shooting jumpers better this year. Vuc even seems like he could be a pick and pop threat from mid-range.

I know tonight was just one game, but the whole year it appears Jrue's court vision (which seemed to get better last year at times) is hindered or lacking because of something (him looking for his O?). The possibility of turnovers shouldn't limit his ability to find guys.

The staff just doesn't seem to use Jrue as a pick and roll threat, and I don't think the lack of a decent big should prevent that. I'm of the belief we have a couple of guys that could succeed at it, but they rarely do it for whatever reason.

Totally agree on Lou, he's the only one that penetrates deep enough at will, and especially the only consistent guy that gets to the line.

I think it's because of DC's fear of the live ball turnover

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to johnrosz on Feb 15 at 23:15

Yeah, I kind of figure that's the reason too. But pick and roll plays aren't really notorious for turning the ball over. It places the defense in a compromised position where guys have to somewhat think moreso than react, therefore not really creating an aggressive defender(s). They've thrown around the "no home run passes" thing, but I wouldn't necessarily call pick and roll passes (whether rolling or popping out) the home run type. Thoughts?

They should be using the pick and pop more than they do, definitely. Don't think they have the personnel to run an effective pick-and-roll, though. Giving the ball to any of the bigs in traffic is probably more likely to wind up in a turnover or blocked shot than a finish, except Thad, but that's not really his strength either.

Ugh. Should we be worried about the Knicks? First they were beating bad teams, not they're blowing them out.

I'm not pissed about this lost mostly because I didn't get to watch it. Jrue has been disappointing this year. He doesn't have a crossover, he doesn't have a quick first step to basket, he's not a crafty passer and he struggles defending the PnR. I had high hopes for this guy and I thought that this year he would establish himself as better PG than Rajon Rondo. He looks pretty mediocre on offense this season.

After 2 days of saying how important Jrue was to this team.... he played his worse gaem I can remember (on both ends) and the team got crushed. Couple that with lavoys inability to track that tall guy and it ended up being a wasted effort from the rest of the team.

I think Collins should have gone to Iguodala on Ryan Anderson and Thad or ET on Hedo. I'm guessing that is what they will do if they meet in the post-season.

Also a shame the Old Chevy had to waste a full tank on DH12...

Remember when the season started and everyone picking more than 40-42 wins or so for this team this year was told that they'll probably find ways to lose several winnable games this season? Pretty sure this was one of them...if they don't give up that big run at the end of the 2nd. this game turns out verrrrry differently....can't wait to see Brian's rotations for that!

and if Orlando plays the same way they did tonight for the rest of the season...could they be the matchup that slows down Miami?

If they hit threes like that, they can beat anyone. That's why they've won 7 of 9. I have a feeling LeBron would be glued to Ryan Anderson if they matched up w/ the Heat in the playoffs, though. Much like I think Iguodala would get the matchup if the Sixers played them.
