Sixers

, all the time

Can we talk about how if today's team had 1962 Wilt they'd never lose a damn game ever ever ever??

user-pic
GoSixers reply to das411 on Mar 2 at 17:17
+/-

Sure - but they would - because the nba today is much better (talent wise, over all) then it was in 1962. Wilt would still be a force, but he wouldn't get 100...maybe ever (and he wouldn't shoot free throws granny style so it might be worse)

My mom went to high school with wilt - got to see him play

user-pic
Rob_STC reply to GoSixers on Mar 2 at 17:46

Interesting GO-My mom went to high school with Wilt that time also at Overbrook where she grew up. Are you from that area ?

user-pic
GoSixers reply to Rob_STC on Mar 2 at 17:48
+/-

If you consider the main line part of that area, sure.

I share the dubious distinction of going to the same high school as james watt (and kobe bryant)

but obvoiusly not at the same time :)

user-pic
Tray reply to GoSixers on Mar 2 at 18:09

Not a dubious distinction at all, Lower Merion's better than a lot of middling prep schools.

user-pic

Gee tray, is water wet? Is oxygen important?

You're make a fine lawyer some day - assuming that creative thinking isn't required

user-pic
Tray reply to GoSixers on Mar 2 at 19:07
+/-

I persist in thinking that you're not very bright and obtained a really inflated sense of your abilities somehow or another. Like eddie's heady's, a large percentage of the stuff you say doesn't even express a coherent thought, perhaps an equally large percentage expresses a patently unreasonable one, or a reading comprehension failure/failure to grasp basic nuance. On top of all that you're a tremendously unpleasant and unjustifiably arrogant person, hence your getting banned everywhere you post. Anyway, yeah, it's true I'd make a fine lawyer, I already am one.

jesus christ you two are annoying.

user-pic
Charlie H reply to GoSixers on Mar 2 at 18:12

He shot 28 - 32 granny style that night. He should have stayed with it. It was the ideal way for him to shoot them because he was too strong and was not a good set shooter.

user-pic
GoSixes reply to Charlie H on Mar 2 at 18:21
+/-

Actually, it's the ideal way for most people to shoot fre throws (I'm looking at you fat shaq and dwight howard) but it's called 'granny style' and thus they would be mocked, and not being mocked is more important than shooting 75% or better form the free throw line to todays athlete.

Someone mentioned on teh radio the other day that big men felt the same way about the sky hook, which is why you never see it any more, and i find that asinine. The sky hook was awesome cause it was unblockable. If a guy like dwight howard isn't developing one cause it's 'girly' - then he's a bigger idiot than I thought.

I heard rick barry once, on either 710 ESPN or KNBR out of SF talk for about 20 minutes about how he could make shaq a great free throw shooter if there was no stigma attached to the under hand style...it's much more effective

user-pic
Charlie H reply to GoSixes on Mar 2 at 19:53

I agree with that totally.

I swear I saw Bill Willoughby block a sky hook once in a Rockets/Lakers game.

Curry, Eric Gordon, Brandon Roy

I think one of the most 'underrated' things about Andre Iguodala is the durability he has shown for most of his career except for one bit of last season i think where he missed some games.

People keep talking about how great certain guys are, and they'll get paid as if they're going to be healthy, but they never are healthy, but terms ignore the injury history...this off season eric gordon will probably be over paid if he shows he's healthy for like 10-20 games...

Wow, they've got like the Z team doing this game on ESPN.

Chris Broussard: The Sixers are a nice team but I'd rather have David Lee & Montae Ellis.

It always amazes me when a network can put together a group of talking heads who are dumber than the TNT guys, but ESPN pulled it off.

If Monta Ellis scores 40 points in this game (on less than 40 shots) I'll run naked from my apartment to Oakland with I (heart) Monta written on my chest.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Mar 2 at 20:21

ha me too usually ... but he nearly got that dunk with a few hard dribbles, and that one shortly after that where he used the screen and rolled and dished. his handle was unsuspecting, pretty much unseen, at least to me esp from him

user-pic

user-pic
Phil reply to Brian on Mar 2 at 20:26

Not sure about his dribble. But (by eye) he seems pretty efficient when attacking the rim. He's made some tough lay-ups and is more likely to get a whistle (because he's so lightweight).

lavoy and voose together

Why the fuck did he pull Jrue there? God damnit.

Iguodala doing a good job coming back to clean the defensive glass.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 2 at 20:24

Vuc, lucky to even be on the court, firing away early too.

Voose is a foul magnet.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Mar 2 at 20:28

If they even think or believe that Vuc could be the heir apparent starter assuming they hopefully don't want Spencer back next year, they're way misguided than I thought. I'd rather keep Spence, shit.

These guys are decent backups, but you ain't winning nothing with non-physical or non-athletic bigs.

Give him some time... He had both great defensive and offensive (where he wasn't shooting mid-range jumpers but showing some nice post moves) games.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Phil on Mar 2 at 20:37

I will. I'll give the kid all the time in the world because he's not only skilled, but tall, but as my backup. Not my head honcho.

user-pic
GoSixers reply to eddies' heady's on Mar 3 at 12:54

The two shouldn't be related. Whether not #8 is the heir apparent to the 'great' Spencer Hawes, Hawes should be allowed to walk, and that was even before his injuries kept him out so long...he's not worth a long term deal, period

defense is not good now. dont like this group. good time out.

Still trying to figure out why Lou came in for Jrue at the 4:53 mark. Doesn't make any sense to me.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Mar 2 at 20:30

In his heart of hearts I think Doug thinks Lou is better than Monta and is giving him a chance to prove it.

Too many turnovers. Cut them out and we should beat them by double digits.

user-pic

user-pic

I'm sure it's not as high as 90%, but it sure feels like it.

PHI 25, GSW 23 after one.

Disappointing after the first sub. 28 more points for Monta and I'm starting my Forest Gump across the country.

Good work on the glass so far. Let's keep that up.

user-pic

user-pic

Thad, you have to box out, get low.

Lou to the hole. He should do that every time w/ Nate Robinson on him.

Remember when EFJ gave Jrue a DNPCD against the Knicks because he thought Nate Robinson's defense was too scary?

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Mar 2 at 20:39

No, I thought it was that he thought Jrue's defense didn't need to be exposed to "that", wasn't it? just asking

No, he said Duhon and Robinson were too intense, defensively.

user-pic

user-pic
Da Jruth reply to GoSixers on Mar 3 at 14:00

Which is?

user-pic
GoSixers reply to Da Jruth on Mar 3 at 14:05

An equal distribution of shots between numerous players doesn't equate with mediocrity. Especially as the sixers were winning (and ended up winning) the game at the time.

If you wanted to describe the actual shots as mediocre shots, that would be more applicable, but not really sure how the actual distribution of shots could be described as mediocre...unless they were shooting as a team at a mediocre rate

user-pic
Da Jruth reply to GoSixers on Mar 3 at 14:20

Okay, here's how we're gonna win this game, k? Turn up the D, force some fast break opportunities and relax on the offensive end. Don't play their hectic style, take care of the ball.

And make sure this is not a close game at the end. One of the scorers might just kill us with 5 sec left...

Defense actually wasn't bad, 98 DFR. Problem was the turnovers. Defensive rebounding rate was 79%, so good work there as well. GSW 1/12 from three.

Glad to see Iggy taking the defensive rebounding thing personally. 8 defensive boards for him at the half.

Good boxout by Turner to prevent Udoh from getting to the ball.

how many layups does thad miss a game?

Ellis killing his team now. ET blocked Udoh out of bounds. Andy Reid would have been proud

I never understand why you give the foul when you're going to get the ball back if you just defend. That's so fucking stupid.

the boxscore im looking at has 75-65

Yeah, my mistake. It's 75-65.

Sixers have scored 25 in each quarter. GSW 23, 24, 18. I'd like to see them held to like 15 in the 4th.

user-pic

Meaning, EB has held his own rather well at the 5 vs good centers, start him there over Allen, insert Thad over Lavoy at the power position, relegate Lavoy coming off the bench at the four with Vuc rotating the same time at the 5. And Meeks and ET with the bench.

Believe that would be more beneficial, particularly for Lou, since he would "get his" early and throughout, instead of solely at the end.

Sixers basketball, folks. Great job, now do it again.

POTG? I say Brand. He was kinda quiet tonight, but finished with a nice line: 14pts, 14rebs (5oreb), 2asts, 2stls, 2blks, 0tov.

Would be interesting to know how many of Lee's 24 were on him, though.

This is the perfect rebound game.

Now go and beat the Bulls sunday.

BTW: 2 turnovers in the second half. Sixers finished with 9.

The best Wilt stat- and one I was not aware of until they mentioned it:

What exactly is he "working his way out of" in this mid-way of his second season?

Following this Heat debacle on Twitter is hilarious. LeBron hit like 4 or 5 really bad shots in the Heat comeback. Shots he shouldn't have even taken, and suddenly he's Mr. Clutch all of a sudden. Then on the decisive play, he draws the double and sets up Haslem for a wide-open jumper from the foul line. Haslem misses it, now everyone's going crazy because he didn't take the terrible shot and instead passed to a guy for an easy look. It's so fucking backwards. Those shots he made were like 20% plays, terrible plays. The pass to Haslem was better than a 50% shot, pretty much.

Not to mention the fact that Wade lost that game for them with two horrible fouls.

I watched the game on CSN tonight, but did anyone hear Chris Mullin call out Turner for being out of shape? I saw a few comments about that on other sites.

I didn't hear it, actually. Tried to tune out pretty much everything that moron said during the game.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Mar 3 at 0:01
+/-

Me too on tuning out, didn't hear it either. What was really said by that clown?

Nothing earth shattering but it didn't sound like anything we've heard here before, that he thinks teh short offseason kept ET from practicing and getting in game shape, when you're a young player you've gotta use the offseason to get in shape and be ready to go ASAP once the season starts...of course it's from Mullin so take that for what it's worth...

Anyone else there tonight? Thought they did a good job overall with the Wilt Nite promos, the pieces of court are mounted on a pretty sturdy card that has his quarter by quarter stats on the back, and for most of that game the Sixers were RIGHT ON his point pace...the halftime tribute was nice, although they should've shown his third sister up in her suite and Adam Aron, as much as they've done right, should never MC anything again. Also VERY nice to see Wilt gear for sale in the new Reebok store - t-shirts with Chamberlain 13 and a couple of others with cool Wilt related designs, gonna tweet AA now to ask him to keep those around...and I did hear a rumor from one of the ticket taker dudes that they may be selling any leftover court pieces after tonight...

btw, if you're reading this TK, Miami's record in close games took another ding tonight.

Yeah, Miami is dysfunctional in close games. They should win 70% of them but end up only winning 40%. Not as bad a departure from their norm as the Sixers, but still inexcusable given their talent.

Man, I really wish the Sixers would've thrown more money at Kenyon Martin. They could've paid him twice as much as the Clippers and he would've been such an asset for this weak front court.

user-pic
Alvin reply to Brian on Mar 3 at 8:58

I honestly think we would have been 5 games better- NJ, LAC, OKC, MINN, HOU, MEM,etc...

Cousins is working on a sweet game tonight. Through three quarters 5/16 from the floor for 10 points. I'm pretty sure he was 0/10 in the third or maybe 1/11. Started out good before he picked up his third foul in his 10th minute. Tray will of course discount this one, since only his good games should count.
