Sixers

, all the time

I got chills

No game for me tonight:

a) Game starts at 3:30 AM here...
b) Sixers will lose. Bulls will try to attack the rim and will get PLENTY of calls from the refs. Emotions will come up an the crowd will get into it. I hope I'm wrong.

i like the Elton script, but I'm really hoping for Jrue to go nuts. I been kinda down on him this season, and would like nothing more than to see him become the guy that everybody believes he can be. he's made some strides already.

anyone got a place to watch the game online?

Yo Seth - you could always try First Row Sports:

http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/123355/1/watch-chicago-bulls-vs-philadelphia-76ers.html

a lot of ads but it's come in handy a couple times. good luck.

Thanks!

They finally put a Philly game on NBATV and I can't watch it. Beats having a web stream anytime.

I think it's very important we get game 5, cannot give them any hope. Doug brought up the Orlando-Detroit series years ago as a good example. We can't afford to let them hang around or give them hope. Good teams put bad teams (or teams in a bad way, like the Bulls are now due to injuries) away. Go Sixers.

If Andre has the same kinda game as game 4 we've got a great chance. I'm looking for Brand to step up too.

Same starting lineup as last game, for both teams. Noah isn't in uniform. News from Dei and M Frank.

lets finish them off tonight

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:29

If they shoot as atrociously overall as they have the past two games, no way they walk off with another win tonight.

Just get out and run, hasn't been enough of that the past two games. In Game 2 they were running off makes and misses, and giving outlet passes out the ying yang.

Sixers by an easy 7.

In my seat at the United Center...hoping to see the end of the Bulls season...

Crowd is REALLY subdued - hope they stay that way.

Indy moves on. For some reason, there's no asterisk when you beat Orlando w/out Dwight.

user-pic

I take it back...it's pretty fucking loud here.

Hope they are ready.

I hope NBATV doesn't pull any of that split screen crap when the game is going on. Hate missing plays.

Greg Anthony and Kevin Calabro. Z team?

Working in DC this week, hell of a time finding a bar w/ NBA TV. Finally found Ventnors, Philadelphia Sports bar! Cool place go Sixers!!!

Anthony:

With Spencer Hawes the Sixers have a player that Chicago has to account for in the post...

Ha. I was zoned out, completely missed that.

Alright....48 minutes to glory....Hawes WINS the tip.

EB out of the double to Hawes, misses a contested 20-footer.

Gotta finish, ET.

Running plays for Deng, he hits his first two.

I might take a timeout right here. Settle them down before it's like a 10-0 run.

good steal jrue, et with the follow

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:46

Come on ET, that's two early turns.

Wow, Jrue.

That's a clear path, Turner was out ahead.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:46
+/-

That's like the third block Jrue has had on Rip in the last two games.

EB, net.

eb

Don't like the easy looks they're getting on these cuts. I think that's the counter to the hard double off that down screen.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on May 8 at 21:49

Jrue just fell asleep for a sec on that last Rip cut and layup.

Good battle for that o-board by Spence. Go to ET in the post w/ Rip on him.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:50

Andre looked a little more spry on that drive.

Good thing Watson can't shoot.

Holy shit, Jrue with another amazing block.

great block jrue, eb

user-pic

Man Jrue!!!! Wow

Ugh, Spence w/ his second. Offensive. Battie coming in?

Nope, Lavoy.

jrue

Free money, Jrue.

good look for lavoy jrue

Lavoy, gotta give a foul on Asik down there. No layups for a 45% foul shooter.

Jrue to Lavoy, Lavoy to the line.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:53

Looks to be another game in or around the 70's at the rate it's gone so far.

gonna have to pick up the pace to get to 70.

Come on. They're free.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:57

ugh Lavoy they're free buddy

Why is Turner on Hamilton all of a sudden? To keep Jrue from picking up his second?

Lavoy long two.

lavoy jumper

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 21:57
+/-

and Lavoy proceeds to make a half-contested 18 footer.

Lavoy again! ET is dominating the glass.

lavoy again

Lou, don't fuck up the defense, please.

Fucking Deng banker.

Well, they've done a great job of stopping the Bulls' transition after turnovers. I guess that's a positive.

Great D by AI9, terrible shot by Deng.

Then they trade places, but AI9 hits his bad shot.

lavoy o-rebound, dre jumper

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:00

Too early shot Turner, don't settle.

Dre gets the 2nd chance pt.

Lavoy again. Love it.

Killing them from Allen-town.

Gibson is completely taking away Thad's left.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:02
+/-

Thad tried to spin right, blocked by Taj.

Yeah, spun right and still tried to shoot w/ the left. If he goes up w/ his right, don't think Taj can get to the ball. Something to work on this summer, I guess.

"spencer hawes with a suntan"..."shooting from allentown"

gotta love malik

Ref was in a terrible, terrible position to call that foul. God damnit. Thibs using Brewer.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:06
+/-

ugh Turner, either foul him hard or don't at all

PHI 16, CHI 17 after one.

7-0 run for Chicago to end the quarter. Bleh. Nail biter early.

AI9 and Turner both played the entire first quarter. Wondering if one of them will take a seat for Jrue and one will say, or if Jrue and Meeks will both come in and they'll go w/ a really small lineup.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:08
+/-

Well, just another fugly quarter, normal by now with these two teams.

"Maybe we'll hire you at a real Dominos if you prove you're a pizza making expert." Is it really that hard to get a job at Domino's that you need to win a contest for a job?

AI9 stays in. Takes a bad shot.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:11
+/-

Andre with Asik on him and he settles for a 20 footer? ugh

good d thad on deng

Tough conversion in transition, but a conversion. Nothing easy on the offensive end on either side so far.

How is that not a foul? For fuck's sake. Jrue got thrown to the ground, then someone picked his legs up and flipped him.

Iguodala + Jrue = 2/10 so far. Ugh.

I'd rather see a foul called earlier on Rip during ET's drive. 2 hands in the back, and it would have been his 2nd foul...

Yep. Home team getting away w/ more, which is pretty much the norm in the playoffs, unless the away team has a superstar.

Strangely enough, I'd go to Vuce in this one. Without Noah I think he is their guy who can finish easy looks inside.

What the hell space suit is Rose wearing? Looks straight outta Dune.

user-pic

Two bad contested shots from Lou back to back.

Two on Taj? Nope, only one.

user-pic
The Six on May 8 at 22:23

I think Scotty paid for that one...

Lou to the line. Korver, helpless. Hit the fucking freebies.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:23

Good outlet EB, Lou gets to the line off of it.

JTI now 2/16 for 6 points.

3/16.

Thad is supposed to be an elite 6th man... so why is this 2 years in a row that he has been outplayed by his man in the playoffs by a wide margin?

They need to sign Joel Anthony and Taj Gibson. Just so they won't have to face either of them in the playoffs. Might be the two worst matchups for him.

user-pic
The Six reply to Brian on May 8 at 22:27

I'm starting to think its more him.

Hopefully, we'll get a chance to see how he does w/out a nightmare matchup.

user-pic

His jumper was respectable this year.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on May 8 at 22:31

By the numbers yeah, but I don't see opponents playing all up on him to take it away or anything.

Well, I mean if he's hitting a good percentage, then he's a good shooter whether they're taking it way or not.

THEY ARE FREE

2/6 from the line, down by 1. Unacceptable.

That was a walk and a half by Brewer. Brand gives the foul.

I'm usually very appreciative of a defensive oriented game, but this one just seems like bad basketball being played by both teams. Not sure how much credit to give to the D's.

Gibson for Chicago, Jrue and Iguodala for the Sixers. Those three guys have been unbelievable on D.

They're checking to see who came off the bench, I think.

Shit, Gibson needs to be tossed for that elbow. That's fucking dirty.

gibson needs an ejection for that

double tech bullshit, someone always starts it

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 22:36

Not a big fan of Jrue giving his second foul there. Not a fan at all. He should've brought Meeks in to do it if he was going to bring him in anyway. That's dumb.

Wow. This is very embarrassing. Hope we don't score an NBA low.

user-pic

user-pic

I've never seen a player worse at tipping the ball than Hawes. He never tips one in or tips a rebound to his own guy.

Ever see a receiver or back look upfield before they secure the ball? C'mon ET, adjust if it's AI put too much on it, but secure the damn ball before you look you set up your shot.

PHI 26, CHI 35 at the half.

They spent a good 5 minutes on the tnt half time report talking about the thrown elbows. Only way to get sixers talk on tnt .

I'm trying to remember the good shots they missed. You've got a couple of layups in there that were challenged, but you need to finish. Brand missed a wide open one from the foul line. AI9 and Jrue both missed wide-open threes. That's pretty much all I can come up with. Hawes missed all of his jumpers, but one of those was contested.

Well, the defense is fine. Score some points, win the game. Sounds simple.

id love a 3rd quarter like game 2

Here's my prediction. The Sixers score 26 in the third quarter, lead going into the fourth.

Gotta catch that, Brand.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on May 8 at 23:11

Now that was a good job Jrue.

Still, keep shooting like ass as a team for the third game in a row and not get the favorable calls and not getting to the line, and you get what's coming to you eventually. A consistent 10 pt deficit.

The lack of shooters on this team for years is troubling. It's like the FO doesn't appreciate that as a skill or something.

That's far from the biggest problem. This game isn't over, btw.

Fucking garbage shot by Boozer.

Hawes to the line.

user-pic

We've shot like this for three straight games. If not for a very unusual comeback in game 3, and just as unusual abundance of trips to the line in game 3 and game 4, they'd have closed us out tonight. You can't win shooting that terrible as I said right before the game started. No post presence, no three point shooters just makes Thibs job scheming that much easier. It's going 7.

We'll see. This game goes a different way if Chicago doesn't hit 5 circus shots, literally. You act like Chicago's been getting whatever they want.

Make that 6 circus shots.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on May 9 at 0:05

Not really, I'm acting like we can't get anything, the way they're packing the lane and closing out on our shots. And this is the third straight game of it. That tells me it's not a blip. You just knew those around 30 free throws weren't going to stand up and our three point shooting doesn't even exist. We've been very fortunate to win the last two shooting that bad, to me. And this is without them having their two best players. Not a good sign, imo.

user-pic
johnrosz reply to johnrosz on May 9 at 0:09

everyone was bad though, not really blaming Dre single handedly for the loss, he was bad though

He was the worst (4 for 19) and Jrue was the second worst (5 for 17). Sure everyone stunk, but everyone else stunk because it was like they weren't even on the floor thanks to the hero ball of the 9-for-36 studs.

user-pic
Rich reply to spiller27 on May 9 at 0:15
+/-

Turner was 2-7. He was just as bad. He also blew a Dre assist in the second quarter as well.

2 for 7 is clearly not as horrendous as 5 for 17 or 4 for 19. It's not just percentages (I suppose 2 for 7 is slightly lower pct. than 5 for 17) but the quantity of shots, come on. If Turner had been given 10 more shots like Jrue got, maybe Turner would've made more than 3 of those.

Basically, Turner goes 2 for 7 so we cut him out of the offense. Jrue goes 1 for 9 and he starts becoming even more of a hog.

user-pic
MCT reply to spiller27 on May 9 at 0:21

Dude spare me your excuses, Turner was dogshit tonight. Give it a rest. It's ok to say he had a shitty game. He had a good game 1, great game 2, good game 3 with a great ending, bad game 4, and awful game 5. That's the truth, accept it. It's a 7 game series, let's hope he bounces back next game.

Whatever. I guess no one here wants to hear that Iggy and Jrue were terrible, clearly Turner was the worst guy on the floor. Why did I bother trying to come back to post here for the playoffs, why would anything be different?

user-pic
MCT reply to spiller27 on May 9 at 0:26

I guess we are discussing who was the anti-POTG and its a wide open field. Hope they win game 6, but at least this 1st round has been interesting and we've learned something about a number of these guys.

Jrue goes 1 for 9 and he starts becoming even more of a hog.

Funny that you have a problem w/ Jrue becoming more of a ball hog when he goes 4/8 after that for 14 points.

Well Iggy and Jrue didn't see any of their teammates on the floor tonight, so I guess that goes with the territory.

Turner was pretty much pushed to the side (like all Sixers except Jrue and Iggy) while Jrue and Iggy went off for the 9 for 36 "Jrue and Iggy 2 on 5 Show"

We are due for a game where the 3 point shots fall. It's unbelievable how bad they've been from three.

The Sixers are now 14-65 from three in the series(3-20 in the 2 losses). Shooting 22% from beyond the arc is an easy way to let an injury-depleted team stay in a playoff series. With Noah's probable return in Game 6, an improvement in outside shooting will be even more crucial to closing this series out.

A couple quick thoughts that should be kept in mind for the future:

Evan Turner was awful tonight. For anyone thinking he's a long term building block, you must take into account his frequent no-shows.

Thaddeus Young has been a below average player for two straight playoffs now. That is very troubling.

This was a pretty embarrassing effort altogether.

Do "frequent no-shows" also apply to Jrue (5 for 17) and Iggy (4 for 19)? At least Turner passed the ball.

I'd trade Dre at the end of the season and Jrue has been better than Turner this playoffs. Sometimes I wonder if you are rooting for Turner over the Sixers.

I'll save the you the suspense - he is.

Right, reminding me why I stopped posting here midseason. Dare to have a different opinion than the powers that be and you aren't a fan of the team.

Rich it's possible to be a fan of Turner and still be a fan of the team. The more Turner runs the offense the better the TEAM has looked, in my opinion. For some reason, you seem to think it's gospel that wanting Turner to run the offense and wanting the team to win are mutually exclusive. I don't get that.

OK I'll just say that if Turner had the ball more tonight, in my my opinion Ronnie Brewer would have continued to make him struggle and we still could have lost. Didn't see much from him tonight.

That's your opinion and it's a fine opinion. I have my opinion and it's different. Fans can disagree. Why does me having a different opinion mean I'm not a fan of the team?

OK, I know you are a fan of the team. Sorry about that. Sometimes I think your Turner fandom gets in the way of realistic long-term goals though. I agree that Jrue and Dre were bad tonight too.

It's cool, thanks.

Look man, I just have to say that we are all fans of the team. I'd like to win this series but the king term future is still the goal. I am a fan of ET too. His inconsistency is maddening though.

You are correct about Turner. I would also add that Iguodala has been horrific on the offensive end this entire series.

Oh yeah, I agree. I just think Dre is in his prime and isn't a building block because of age though.

Yeah I hear you, I'm not ready to say that Turner isn't a building block either though. It's a tough series against a really good defense, I'll wait until it's over to make a final judgement. Our offense is looking so bad right now, I just don't see how we will score. I can see Chicago taking this series now.

I think it's pretty funny seeing the arguments over who was the worst player tonight, when everyone was fucking awful. That's my vote.

POTG was anyone who didn't get in. Battie? Vuc? Xavier Silas in street clothes?

Games like tonight and kind of the last game, at least portions of it, are why I have exactly zero excitement about our so-called backcourt of the future. Evan's got to go, Jrue's 'maybe' a keeper. You keep both of 'em, it'll be just like overpaying Iguodala and overpaying an injured Brand - however many more years of mediocrity. Book it.

It's a 7 game series, I think we should wait until it's over to determine who stays and who goes.

No one overreacts like Philly fans.

You speak as if I've just begun to feel like this. Not an overreaction in the slightest. This opining isn't anything new from me.

Ok well you're still wrong, so congrats.

heh, so if I'm wrong (whatever the hell that means?), then one must assume you're "excited" about the backcourt and have belief they will deliver more than the same ol' tired "mediocrity?

they're up 3-2 in a series, why not just save everyone the armchair GM stuff for the offseason

If they can play well to close out this series, and play well in the next series, then yes. That would mean a thousand times more than whatever has happened up until this point. If they suck from here on out, then no, I won't be excited about their future. You're wrong because you've already come to a conclusion when there isn't enough evidence for it yet.

Huh? You didn't just say that there's not enough evidence for me to come to a conclusion then turn around and use just two possible playoff series as your 'evidence'?

150 games means a lot more to me than 6 or 9 vs the same opponent.

No, it doesn't. Playoff games mean a thousand times more. If you don't know that, you're an idiot.

Preposterous. Where's Magee when I need him?

I idiot-like forgot that you held tight to the 1 or 2 decent games ET had vs the Heat last year in the playoffs and you waited patiently all year for that player to appear, only to be utterly disappointed because he peeped through only a handful of times. One must assume that's the same mantra you're going to take here, win or lose this series, is he had a couple good games vs a playoff opponent and he's on the verge of arriving. You must like altars.

Calm down. They played hard tonight. They can close it out in game 6. They are the better team right now. The bulls showed heart tonight and defended home court. The 6ers has to do the same on Thursday. The national media wants the bulls to win. Don't pay attention to them. The 6ers missed make able shots 2nite. They will get back on track.

Way too much passing out to the perimeter and shot clock mismanagement. Of course, when nobody moves off of penetratiin that's the expected result.

Didn't you say before game 4 that it was "pretty simple". All that had to be done was our backcourt control the game? How's that working out?

Well, Deng went off and JTI all played poorly and that's pretty much the game. So yeah, spot on.

Cin reply to Cin on May 9 at 0:38

You keep Holiday and Turner because they won't bring in anything better (see: Beasley for two second round picks and Collison for Ariza). Move Dre for a frontcourt piece even though you won't get equal value (player or pick). Let Spencer walk. Let Lou walk unless he's kept at a reasonable and short deal (3y/20m). Keep Brand unless there's a deal to be made. Sign Brack-Attack for the max.

NBDL max

As poorly as they played, they still were a few momentum buckets away from being in a 2 possession game. The officiating was very poor tonight on both ends, but the poor officiating favors the Bulls style of play. Just hope that if they attack the rim at home they'll get a few more of those obvious calls. I don't think I've seen anyone get away with as much as Asik, it's pretty mind boggling.

This whole Turner/Anti-Turner debate that has raged the entire season is amusing. Let me try to state a few propositions and see if we can agree on them.

Turner is a good player. Maybe he has the potential to be a very good player. Remember that Billups and Nash didn't really get going until their fourth or fifth years.

But, Turner is inconsistent and still learning the NBA. Maybe he will be more consistent next year. He wasn't very good tonight, but almost no one was except Lavoy.

Turner is not the athlete that Jrue or Ig are (and probably never will be) but he has decent skills, is a team player, and rarely falls into the "2 on 5" mind frame that Jrue and Iggy could justifiably be accused of tonight.

In the long run, IMHO, I don't think they can keep J and T and I and LW together. One or two of them maybe should go in favor of more post presence or a more traditional point guard (which we haven't had since Andre Miller).

The series is now 3-2. Maybe, just maybe all is not lost and they can still win this thing.

I agree with everything you wrote.

JaVale McGee is looking absolutely dominant right now in this game, blocking shots and catching lobs, always thought he had a shot to be a real player if he just got with a coach who could reign him in a little bit.
