solid point.... "you're not good enough to take anyone lightly."
sixers must come out agro high off last night's improbable win and stay focused throughout. would be sweet if jrich could light up the suns too. oh well.

Last night: amped 76ers College Hip-Hops ["The bunny will never die!"] vs. dowdy, dottily-coached Lakers University Kobes.

Nice job by the east coast fraternity. Kudos to Jrue and Evan for Hollywood Boulevardin' with the top down.

Pau was pale and speechless; saw Spencer-Kwame-Lavoy leviathan. Dwight, introverted Clark Kent.

On tap tonight: the ever-nibblin' Mesa Community College Jackrabbits. Letdown or peddle-down? Prediction: 1 W, 1 L, divided among participants.

the suns are 4.5 point favorites tonight, seems somewhat weird

Really? That doesn't make me feel good about this game at all. Is there an injury I don't know about?

I believe the Sixers are 2-6 on second night of back-to-backs so far, that might have something to do with it. One of the two wins was against the Suns, when the Suns were rested.

The sixers being 6-10 on the road (including last night and the suns having a winning record at home (same record at home as the sixers by the way) probably is included as well.

I know in the NFL being at home gets you 3 points - does it do anything in the NBA?

6-7 on the road w/ Jrue. Which is an important distinction.

I think it's 3 points in hoops as well.

Road wins w/ Jrue:

Memphis, Lakers, Celtics, Raptors, Bobcats, Hornets

Road losses w/ Jrue:

Knicks, Cavs, Bulls, Celts, Nets, Blazers, Warriors

So one bad loss in there. 3 good wins. I'd say that's a pretty good road record for a team of this caliber. Of course, the three games with Turner at the controls count, so you can't just throw them away.

Zach Lowe included Thad & Jrue in what amounts to an honorable mention for Defender of the Year at mid-season:

Every year I put the same data into Basketball Reference and it output the same crazy result... Looking at players who have produced at Jrue's age he projects to be grouped with HOF players. This seemed rediculous his first few seasons, but less so now that his numbers have taken off into elite level.

I put in Jrue's age and combo of pts/asst/reb and each year the result is that almost player in NBA history that put up Jrues number at his age went on to the Hall of Fame. But on the flip side, Jrue always has the lowest WS/48 of the group.

For this year I tried to extrapolate by setting the bar below Jrue's current output- I set the thresshold at age 22, 17.5pts, 7.5 asst and 3.5 reb. Here are the names:

Damon Staudamire
I was surprised that Lebron missed the cut...

So in NBA history you have 7 HOF, Baron Davis (arguably HOF pre-injury), Damon Staudamre and Jrue.

Looking at combined playoff production at this age, Setting the bar at age 21 and Jrue's combined playoff numbers (15.4/5.4/4.4), 7 other players make the list- all sure fire HOF players:
Magic, Lebron, MJ, TMac, Rose, CWebb and Westbrook. Shockingly, Jrue is #2 on this list for WS and 5th for WS/48. And 18 games is a reasonably large sample size when talking about the playoffs. So Jrue is playing at HOF level for his age in the playoffs.

3 years ago (rookie) Jrue's combo of PPG/ast/reb were only matched at age 19 by 4 other players in NBA history (Lebron, Parker, Kyrie and Marbury.)

2 years ago Jrue's combination of PPG/Ast/Reb were only matched at age 20 by 4 other players in NBA history (Lebron, Magic and CP3 with more WS and Wall with much less WS.)

Last year Jrue's numbers had slipped so looking historincally at his Pts/Reb/Asst/Stl at age 21 revealed 15 other players of whom 11 were sure fire HOF. Looking only at PPG/asst/rev there are 21 other players, 12 sure fire HOF and a few broderline HOF, so Jrue's company had slipped.

I was looking at Rose's season prior to his MVP campaign in comparison to this year for Jrue. Obviously, Rose made a big leap the next year, but the numbers are very similar.

Aaaaaand we're off....Lavoy loses the tip.

It sure would be nice to see Richardson hit a couple threes early. Nice to get anything at all out of Richardson and Nick young.

Jrue. Good.

Jrue doubled, easy feed to Thad for the lefty layup.

Scola might be the worst defender I've ever seen.

jrich jumper

jrue tip in

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:15

May not show it on the score, but they're really lazy and slow on the defensive end so far. They look to be standing around and giving up open looks from the perimeter unless that's the gameplan.

Richardson off the dribble. Looks like they're staying away from their typical plays early here, and running low-impact plays for Jrue. Like they're trying to save his legs.

Jrue to the hole, tips in his own miss.

That was mighty lazy. Yeah, they look a step slow.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:17

Slow rotations ends in a Dudley 3.

23 seconds of good D doesn't cut it if they get a wide open look for a shooter with one left on the shot clock.

splits them

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:18

Why is Hawes in so early? Was Lavoy mostly to blame for that Gortat slash to the hoop?

Don't know. Jrue can't get caught on that screen so far out on the floor. Not sure if he knew it was coming, but he has plenty of room to go under when it's that far out.

dont go over when he sets the screen past the 3 point line

nice look jrue

Jrue to Thad.

x2. Wow.

Jrue might just get a triple double tonight

JC reply to MCT on Jan 2 at 21:21

that was a really sweet pass, particularly on the replay

MCT reply to MCT on Jan 2 at 21:21

in the first half

Jrue has 4 pts, 6 boards and 5 dimes already.

Jrue to the line.

Ah, they're free!

Think Jrue thought he got contact there.

Eventually, he'll get that call.

cant lose him jrue

Don't really like the vibe out there right now. Can't coast.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:26

Really wish they'd stop sending Hawes out to set that screen for Jrue. Rather they send Thad.

Ivey coming in. Early rest for Jrue? Yup.

earlier rest for jrue

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:26

ET and Jrue w/ early rest here.

Jrue and Turner both to the bench. This lineup might be challenged.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:28

Doug made comments the other day about Ivey not playing PG when mentioning his increased minutes in the rotation. Wonder if he lets Dorell handle here?

Man, why couldn't they have gotten Shaun Livingston?

eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Jan 2 at 21:30

Felt the same way after one of you guys said the other night he was scooped by someone else.

So tie game, 3:38 to go in the first when Jrue went to the bench.

Vucevic with 20 and 12 on 14 shots in the game after his 20/29 game.

How much time was left on the clock there? What a terrible shot by Nick Young.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:31

Can't believe he's not going to stagger Jrue and Evan's rest here. A little too risky for my liking.

Hawes dribble-drive, rejected. Down 6.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:33

May want to hurry back down the court Spencer after getting your shit stuffed. Gortat did.

eddies' heady's reply to eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:33

jogging limp-wristed fucker

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:34

Thanks Doug, for putting Lavoy back in. Oh, nevermind, he left Spencer in and subbed Thad out.

Thad, Jrue and ET all on the bench.

PHI 24, PHO 31 after one.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:36

Annnnndddd Spencer just gets plain fucking lost cheating down in the lane and his man, Morris, cans a 3.

johnrosz on Jan 2 at 21:36

what planet is Nick Young from

He keeps forgetting whether he's playing for the Globetrotters or the Generals.

Didn't someone say they need to work on those plays where they bring the ball up with like 5 or 6 seconds on the clock because they never get a good shot last night?

Jrue back. Off-balance Lavoy long two, not the shot they wanted.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:39

Still can't believe he subbed Jrue and Evan at the same time. No matter the mins played last night. That strategy could be the deciding factor considering how they stunk the joint up closing out that quarter. Way too damn risky, Doug.

nick young 3

Jrue to Nick for a three.

The Phoenix announcer just said, "Nick Young is red hot right now." after that three.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:40

Jrue needs to go and get the ball, never touched it on that possession.

Hawes has about 6 inches on Morris and that's what he throws up there? Come on.

sissy jumper

Long sissy two, from Jrue.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:42

Got to make that, Lavoy, come on.

Nick steal.Dorell dunk.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:45

Shitty pass Spencer. Runout on other end.

Ugh, Hawes.

lavoy jumper

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:46

Come on Dorell, pass the ball man.

bad shot jrue lavoy putback

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:47

Bad shot from 3 from Jrue. Lavoy.

Good work, Lavoy. Don't like that three by Jrue. Just blow by him on the dribble.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:48

Another quick shot.

Back him down Jrue. Kickout to Dorell for 333333333

Jrue in the post to Wright for a three. Pretty.

d3 from jrue who was in the post

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:48

NYoung for 3!

Nick three in transition. 4-point lead. 10-2 run. +10 since Jrue came back in.

Sorry, +11.

Turner still on the bench. Punitive?

mymanjrue reply to Brian on Jan 2 at 21:53

has to be. did i miss something?

ah here he comes

Jrue dribbles off his leg, had the angle, too. Ugh.

Another Jrue turn. Come on. Clean it the fuck up, Jrue.

I want Jrue's next shot to be a layup. Enough of this shit, you can burn this guy every time.

thad jumper

ugh box out please

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:55

Come on JRue, telegraphed that one.

Fuck, another turn. Come on, Jrue. Don't need that right now. Take the easier play.

mymanjrue on Jan 2 at 21:55

nice turner

Bad call.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 21:57

Wish they'd run some side pick and roll w/ Jrue and Thad. Thad is on tonight and Jrue is dishing at will, except for the carelessness of the last few.

Come on, finish the quarter strong. Take a couple possession lead into the half, please.

Or not.

Come on. jrue makes the steal, turner throws a pass off sissy's head.

oh hawes

nice pass Turner, fuck

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:00

Jrue giving up penetration to Dragic caused scrambling on rotations.

Jrue pokeaway. Evan throws it to Hawes' back. Don't throw the fucking ball to him anytime Evan. Damn

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:01

Fuck you Hawes. Pussy

6.5 per...............

evan dunk

Hawes, I think you might blow.

Turner w/ the stuff in transition. Get a stop here, please.

Let's see what kind of play he draws up here.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:03

Jrue 1-4 flat iso.

well they're up 1

PHI 49, PHO 48 at the half.

Really odd substitutions by Collins. He sat Jrue for 3 minutes in the first quarter, then played him the entire second. Not sure what that accomplished in terms of rest.

Nevertheless, 1-point lead at the half. Going to need a much better effort in the third quarter.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:04

May have been, they denied Jrue well. Never materialized b/c they were forced to throw it into Hawes.

Now inbound to JRich, and he lays it up.

Defense was slightly better, just a better version of still shit though. Got to tighten up the lanes and rotations.

Turner and Thad have 0 rebounds and 0 assists, that's just weird

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:07

I can't remember the last time Turner didn't have a rebound at the half, even playing the equivalent of only a quarter.

Man, 1/6 for Hawes. Doesn't look like one of his "bouncy" games so far.

johnrosz reply to Brian on Jan 2 at 22:14

devastated by the fiscal cliff news

eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Jan 2 at 22:19

Hawes has went from the X-factor to the Z-factor tonight, Zero.

Duncan had 26, 12, 6 and 3 blocks tonight. Prior to this season, Larry Bird was the oldest player to do that, at 34 and 4 months. Duncan topped that last month at the age of 36 and 8 months, and had another game hitting those marks just two weeks later.

The Polish Hammer is making $290K more than Hawes this year.

Bleh, Lavoy fading long two on the first possession.

Jrue needs to penetrate.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:21

Need some help defense there after Jrue lost contain.

Good penetration, no finish for Jrue there.

ugh, don't do this. Don't come out as sluggish as you were in the first half.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:22

Jrue needs to look for his shot in this quarter right here.

There you go, Jrue. Good take. Defense still shoddy though.

Too quick 3 there though Jrue.

Don't mind the three when his man goes under (or the help just leaves), that's a good look, he just needs to hit it.

Defense is atrocious.

Doug needs a timeout.

Pitiful effort here.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:24

Took it to them at the start of the 2nd quarter, this quarter looks just like the first. Slow, lazy, disinterested on the defensive. They've got to make some adjustments on the high ball screen for Dragic. Jrue is getting caught on it every time and the big isn't doing anything.

Jesus, no one's even coming close to getting open. Think that was supposed to be Turner in the post, but he couldn't get position. Jrue's fourth turn.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:27

Jrue just dribbled that whole possession almost, then tried to iso up w/ 9 left on the clock. Dragic did a good job of moving his feet staying in front of him. Little contact though.

Jrue J.

Jrue, just do that 10 more times.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:27

Terrible airball Jrue.

Ugh, JRich turnover. Runout on other end. This is inexcusable here. Pitiful.

thad putback

Good work, Thad.

Why haven't they gone to Thad with Scola guarding him at all?

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:29

Wish he'd run either some Jrue/Thad side pick and roll or just post Thad up and let him go to work. He can abuse him man down there.

Jrue should be standing on the line right now. Finished, though.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:29

Thad pass to Jrue backdoor. Nice.

Lavoy, good. Come on, string together some stops. Show some energy.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:31

Dragic is playing good D on Jrue. Let Thad come out and set a pick, please.

5 turns on Jrue. Then a bad whistle on the other end. Jrue needs to collect himself on those drives. He could've just stopped and hit that 6-footer.

No legs on Jrue's jumpers. That's two he's left waaaaaay short. Not sure what to do here. Think Jrue needs a blow, can't afford to take him out, though.

Turner way short, too.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:33

They're sending Lavoy out now to set the pick. Send Thad dammit. They're just ignoring Thad when we're on offense.

Come on, Hawes.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:35

Shit, now Hawes is in for his patented dribble handoffs at the free throw line. Not sure is that turnover should be on Jrue or Hawes. Looked like Jrue should have caught that.

ugh slow down everyone

Come on. Wake the fuck up.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:36

Evan w/ the butterfingers. Come on, they're trying to give you this game with all their turnovers, can't capitalize though.

Wright three. Let's go. STOPS.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:38

Hawes is setting thet pick now. Ugh.

Thad might as well be a statue out there. Can't believe they won't at the least try to isolate him down low on the block. That's what I'd call a mismatch.

Yep. It's mind boggling. I guess the rest of the offense is running so well they don't want to mess with it :)

Think I'd sit Jrue here. As much as I hate closing quarters badly, he's just running on fumes out there. Sit him now, bring him back for the beginning of the fourth and sit Turner when you bring him back.

Turner to the bench. Jrue is still in there.

Another turn by Jrue. Nothing in the tank.

sissy hook

Jrue to Hawes. Come on, a stop or two? Too much to ask?

johnrosz on Jan 2 at 22:42

Scola was available for 3.5? He seems like the same player as Hawes, but maybe a more consistent effort on a nightly basis.

Jrue was pissed about them calling that foul. Ironic.

PHI 66, PHO 75 after three.

Pitiful. Don't think they're coming back tonight.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:44

And they pass another one at the end of a quarter in to Hawes. Clanked 3. That quarter was so frustrating. We're not doing anything on offense to counter our lack of effort and execution on defense.

You think there is any way Magic would've accepted Hawes instead of Vuc in the bynum trade? Guess it wouldn't hvae worked under cap possibly.

They're 1-16 when trailing after three, I believe.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:47

Anybody want to get out and guard Scola from 15 or 20 feet? Damnnnnnnnn

game over.

He's hit about 10 of those, Spence. How 'bout you cover him?

That one should cost Scola $5K.

Maybe Nick Young can catch fire.

Did O'Neal miss the backboard with that hook?

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:49

O'Neal walked there!! Out of bounds to us anyway.

ET pumps, stuffed as usual. Jump ball.

Hawes, you aren't strong.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:51

Hawes, you fucker you. I did laugh though.

Thad for Hawes. Maybe give him a touch or two?

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:53

Come on guys, one more run? Then Jrue comes back in and finishes it off? Calling it now. Book it.

Cut it to 7 here at the line. Then all you have to do is come up with 8-and-a-half minutes of energy. That's it. 8:29 worth of energy for a fucking win.

Come on, stop and hoop.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:56

ET take. Down to 5. STOPS

Good hustle for the board, Lavoy.

Turner to the hoop. Good. Another stop now.

ugh evan

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:57

What was that EVan??? damn

Shake it, Turner. Another stop.

lavoy putback

Lavoy showing some life. Let's fucking go!

Malik on Evan's awful shot: "no one else touched the rock, and he threw up a dart"

Jrue back, down 5. Come on. 6 minutes of hell.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 22:59

Jrue back. Down 5. Let's go!!

Just shoot that Thad....ET blocked. 3 secs left on clock.

That was a pretty ugly shot, Turner. No touch for Jrue. Draw something up here, Doug.

damn that was a nice play for wright, just didnt hit it

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:02

Great look for Dorell, couldn't have asked for any better opening. Missed it. ugh

Man, perfect look there. Ugh.

Get a stop.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:03

They finally go to Thad on the block???? He fades and comes up short.

Ugh. Thad.

Stop here or kiss it goodbye.

evan jumper back to 5

Wright tipped that to Morris. Shit.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:03

Damn Dorell, tapped it right to Morris there. Ugh ugh ugh

ET w/ his 2nd make in a row.

Alright, Turner. Come on. Fucking o-board on the other end.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:05

WTHELL Jrue??? dag man

jrue 3

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:06

Jrue 4 3!

2 lets fucking go!!!!!!!!

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:07

Dammit o-board again. SHeesh. Turnover!!! DOrell alley oop!!!!!! Come the fuck on guys!!!

Jrue to Wright for the triple-double and a two-point game. Let's fucking go!

Holiday with the pathetic triple double!

Hike up your shorts. Give them nothing. Get the d-board. Let's go.

ugh lavoy

Bleh. He stepped into that. Bleh.

Come on guys. Find a way to win this one.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:10

Ugh, how do we end up w/ Lavoy having to rotate back to Dragic?

johnrosz reply to eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:11

ET got lost it looked like

they doubled scola in the post

ugh jrue

6th turn. Shit.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:12

I will be damn JRue. No man's land there. Shit, turnover.

Don't like the timeout there. Probably going to need them if it remains close to advance the ball.

At least he didn't put Spence in.

William on Jan 2 at 23:14

They have been really sluggish tonight.

5 seconds. Heh. You called a timeout for that?

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:15

That was a quick 5 sec call there. They've denied the shit of Jrue all night on inbounds plays.

Big block by Jrue. 5 on the clock.

Hope it was off the Suns.

William on Jan 2 at 23:17

Evan has issues fighting through screens since he's been in the league. It has hurt their defense tonight. By the way, the suns are not good. Frustrating.

Yeah, off Turner.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:17

F me. You're kidding right? Did he flop?

That's game, folks.

Jrue to the line. Collins blew the timeouts, not that it really matters, but don't have enough time to go back and forth with foul shots.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:23

Dorell's efficiency and play the last several games is screaming for more minutes, and not just because other guys were tired like tonight.

Man, Wright got another good look there.

grrrrrrrr, this team

PHI 89, PHO 95 Final.

Jrue's your POTG with a pathetic triple double 15/10/10. Wasn't a good game for him, though. Too many turns. Edge goes to Dragic in this one, first in 7 that he's been outplayed by the opposing PG.

Looking like 2-6 is going to be the magic number on this trip.

whoops, 16/10/10, also 2 blocks and 2 steals to go along with the 6 turns. Bleh.

eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Jan 2 at 23:31

Bad thing about it is, I would have never told you that those 2 would be MEM and LA. Go figure.

Yep, that's the way it goes with this team. This was the one game they really should've had, makes the MEM and LAL wins a little less meaningful.

I expected 2-6, would've considered 3-5 a really good trip. Don't see any way they split the back-to-back on FRI/SAT.

i know he had a triple double but outside of the first 6 minutes, felt like jrue had a bad game

thad had 10 rebounds in the 2nd half

Kind of crazy that a triple-double is probably the worst game he's played since coming back from the injury.

eddies' heady's on Jan 2 at 23:27

Lost count recently, but this is another game that they literally lost in the 1st quarter by coming out of the gates slow. There have been several others lately and before that too. 3rd quarter didn't help tonight either. But that 1st quarter did them in and a lot of that had to do with that risky ass move Doug pulled when he took out both Jrue and Evan at the same time. (not sure how many they gave back after they went out but it was very possibly the damn game and I remember critiquing it when he did it that it may cost them and I firmly believe it did)

That, and not going to Thad.

Fully agree about Collins decision to sit Jrue and Turner at the same time as being dritical to the loss. If i am not mistaken, the Sixers led by 2 or it was a tie game before, they went to the bench and by the end of the quarter, the Sixers were down 7. The rest of the team couldn't put together a single solid offensive possession and they were even worse defensively.

No legs. Very Sixer like performance being sucked back to mediacrity after the high in LA.
