ATL's Consistency Continues to Confound

Take heart. At least it's not the Roy White era Yankees.

It's getting damned close to the Steve Trout Yankees, without my boyhood hero at first base to soften the blow.

Trout, comfy in nation's midsection, washed ashore on Hudson at age 29. Doyle Alexander-ed.

Donnie, a little short on power for 1B, but fine hitter and consummate pro.

The Yankees traded most of their good pitching prospects then, didn't they? Doug Drabek and Jose Rijo are two I can remember. Weird that Mattingly's years exactly or almost exactly coincided with the gap between Yankees WS appearances: '82 through '95. As soon as he retired, they won 4 out of 5. Maybe '84 was his rookie year? He's the Elgin Baylor of baseball.

He's cursed. He also should've been managing the Yanks when they won in 2009. He should still be managing them now.

no Harris or Jenkins for the hawks tonight

Shelvin Mack played 20 minutes for them the other night.

Nice to see Iguodala having fun in his new surroundings:

and more amusingly

Gallo going down hurts... I was starting to think the Nuggets had championship aspirations this season.

And by championship you mean western conference? No one in the NBA is going to beat Miami 4 of 7, let alone Denver since they wouldn't have home court, and at best will finish the season at 500 on the road.

They wouldn't beat San Antonio or OKC in 7 without homecourt

user-pic
Court_visioN reply to GoSixers on Apr 5 at 18:40
+/-

Sure? Championship ASPIRATIONS means you at least have a realistic shot at it. And the Nuggets I think have a winning record against just about every WC playoff team.

But yeah, without Gallo that makes aspirations of any kind a much taller order.

I believe championship aspirations means you believe you can beat the teams in a 7 game series - and I don't think the nuggets can realistically believe they can take the heat, spurs or thunder in a 7 game series if everyone is healthy.

Court_visioN reply to GoSixers on Apr 5 at 19:40

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Not that it really matters.

If Denver wants to win in the playoffs they should learn to rebound defensively better since only 3 teams are worse than team, Charlotte, Sacramento, and Milwaukee

user-pic
Lurker reply to GoSixers on Apr 5 at 21:17
+/-

Do you believe Miami's weak defensive rebounding is going to hurt them too?
Does Denver's excellent offensive rebounding (tied for 1st) offset their poor work on the defensive boards?

Yeah i am really disappointed about Gallo's injury. I was rooting for the Nuggets to make a championship run, and more than anything i wanted to see how far a team without a superstar and with their frantic style of play can go. The injury will make any result inconclusive now. Gallinari is a critical part of their team and it's not someone they can replace with their superior depth.

Forbes wants you to come to their web site and view their slide show of the 10 most over paid nba players

Winner Winner - Carmelo Anthony

Not on list - Andre Iguodala

The Magic and Mavs each have two players on the list

Forbes List

I link to bleacher report as well, ONLY because CNN.com has partnered with them which means you think they'd have some good editors, but on bleacher report, the #3 over paid player is Joe Johnson, of the Hawks Winner Winner chicken dinner

user-pic
Stan reply to GoSixers on Apr 5 at 18:14

I don't think Melo is "overpaid". The Knicks have the 2nd best record in the east and have solidified themselves as the best team in the Atlantic. Also, for some reason Knicks fans think that with Melo the Knicks are contenders, so I guess it generates more revenue and fan excitement.

Carmelo Anthony does one thing very well - and nothing else even good - is the argument.

They're the best team in the atlantic - so what - the atlantic is a weak ass division - hell it might be the worst in the NBA right now - The knicks have the second best record in the east - would they have the second best record is Derrick Rose was healthy - if the pacers were healthy? They've got a whole 1/2 game lead on the pacers.

The knicks are over rated because they're in new york - and carmelo is over rated cause he scores a lot of points - not even that efficiently

user-pic
Tray reply to GoSixers on Apr 5 at 21:15

Scoring's an awfully important part of the game. It's not like the one thing he does really well is defensive rebounding. I think he's a top 20 player in the league who should probably get paid 20% less. Forbes, not surprisingly, is using David Berri's wackadoodle and universally discredited take on win shares, which weights rebounds way more than anything and says that Reggie Evans is a really great player. Note that Berri thinks Melo has 0.7 win shares all year, while the people who calculate win shares the sane way give him 8.2. But thanks for linking us to this.

user-pic
Tray reply to Tray on Apr 5 at 21:26

Just to tack on re: how incredibly dumb Berri's methodology is, Berri would have you believe that J.J. Hickson is a 10-win player. That Tim Duncan, Kobe, Parker, Horford, and Westbrook have been less valuable to their teams this year than J.J. Hickson. That Reggie Evans is an 8.4 win player and has been more valuable to his team than Tony Parker has been to his, or Al Horford or Westbrook or Deron Williams have been to theirs. In fact, he thinks Reggie Evans has produced more wins than any other Net, Brook Lopez included. He thinks Andre Drummond has actually produced 7 wins - Drummond, who played 54 games for only 20 minutes per. He thinks Ed Davis and Kosta Koufos are both 7 win players, and values them more than Gallo, Lawson, Bosh, or Jrue.

I'm just going to pull for individual accomplishments. I hope Jeter passes Yastrzemski on the all time hits list just to say fuck you to Boston, and that Mo has a nice finish to his career.

Yeah, I'd like to catch as many of Mo's appearances as possible. Best baseball player of my lifetime and there will never be another like him. Can't really stomach seeing Youkilis in the pinstripes, though. Makes me want to not watch.

user-pic
MCT reply to Brian on Apr 6 at 2:22

just think how it makes Boston fans to see their beloved Youk in pinstripes, I know that makes me feel a little better about it haha...and honestly, I'll take anyone over A-Rod at third right now...but let's hope they surprise us all and have a solid season
