Poll question: 41 percent blame Collins for Sixers season:

http://www.phillyburbs.com/sports/sixers/

To vote, go halfway down the right side.

@MrMichaelLee
Randy Wittman: "I doubt that Trevor [Ariza] or Martell [Webster] will play" vs PHI. #wizards

I'd really like to see major minutes for Moultrie tonight.

John Wall has been really good lately. think Wash prob would have been the 7 or 8 seed if they were healthy all year

Yep, Wall's been good since he came back. Playing for an extension, possibly. Of course if the Sixers had been healthy all year, they'd probably be in the hunt for the 2 or 3 seed.

Rob Mahoney in enthusiastic support of Jrue's candidacy for Most Improved Player:

"Holiday has unraveled a bit down the stretch..."

@CHICKatCSN Sources confirm Eddie Jordan is leaving the Lakers and will be the next coach at Rutgers. Deal almost complete.

No matter what they say I'm guessing he was the last guy they wanted - they were turned down by the coach of URI earlier this week.

Aside from the whole coach is an idiot, the president should be fired thing you have a pretty unhappy and vocal faculty about how much coaches are getting paid when whole departments are losing state funding.

And, anything bad that happens to NJ is good for PA - that's just a fact

FKD215 reply to sixerfan1220 on Apr 12 at 19:07

That's a shame if it happens. I was hoping Jordan would be there to torpedo the Lakers' development for a long time to come.

Not to worry - Jim Buss has that well in hand

hey remember back when we thought the Sixers were better than the Wizards?

Both rosters 100% healthy? The sixers are better than the wizards

If one believes in such things the continued bynum 'chaos/drama' whatever you want to call it probably had impact on the players all year...not to mention the coach sometimes throwing his players under the bus

Dang, Evan...i seriously thought that by your third year, you were gonna be a swiss army knife, puttin up something like 16/7/6. i'm still not sure that you're not capable of that - maybe in an alternate universe? or a different jersey? i don't know. what i do know is, you suck at basketball right now.

I gave him way too much credit two or so years ago when I declared him that. Swiss army knife? He's really not even that when you think about it, as you said.

I just wish I knew where that "seriously thought" you had, stemmed from. The visual evidence just didn't add up to having it. Unless it was wishful thinking, of course.

Frankly, he's always sucked at it (where you say 'right now'). The competition was inferior. And he's just another in a long line of many that ended up being consumed by it instead of excelling at it and having a clear edge.

Can't wait? Heh that's funny. You're so the comic.

Wow, Kobe just tore his Achilles (probably). He is my most hated player ever, but man you never like seeing a player go out with injuries like that. And it's not just this season, his career might be in jeopardy. Here's some analysis from Kevin Pelton on Achiles tears:

http://basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2059

Some of the players were never able to return on the court, and others were severely limited. We, as Sixers fans, are very familiar with Brand's post-Achilles injury career. The numbers suggest it's even worse than ACL tears.

Barkley called it the other night before the game on TNT, pretty crazy

so who else can't wait for the Sixers to inexplicably bid on him once the Lakers cut him loose?

Sunday column: If Collins doesn't return, it'll probably be his decision:

http://bit.ly/17y2ppf

What seed would we be fighting for with Doron Lamb? Still in the playoff hunt, I assume.

Doron Lamb was a top 20 recruit in high school and shot 48% from the field and 47% from 3 while he was at Kentucky. Wish we could've dumped Jrue and picked him up this year.

Odd that it's not on league pass anywhere, plenty of available channels. Wonder if the original start time was changed? Even so, when that's happened before it was still shown on the pass.

Do you have DirecTV? I didn't have it on league pass, and it was blacked out on the fox network that carries the cavs feed. Second time in a little over a week when I couldn't watch the game.

Tough to call a player of the game from the box score. Maybe Kyrie.

It looks like they're a coin flip away from #12 in the lottery. Portland continues to implode despite their stacked roster.

You might be right, but maybe I'd rather see another terrible season (maybe even more terrible) with a different coach who will play his younger players more instead of a slightly better season with Collins. I don't hate the guy but if this team has to rebuild let the complete rebuilding start.

Younger players = Moultrie and our draft pick this June?

user-pic
buke reply to Tray on Apr 15 at 11:31
+/-

Yes and maybe a second rounder, too, as well as any young and low cost free agents or players obtained in trades. Moultrie is among my favorite players on this team simply because he has worn out his welcome the least. If it were possible to trade this entire team I would support that. And, yes, that includes Jrue, too. In fact, maybe especially Jrue.

I don't mind so much watching a bad team for awhile as long as I'm not always watching the exact same players doing the same bad things.

Tank for Wiggins!!

user-pic
buke reply to mymanjrue on Apr 15 at 0:53

Well, OK, but I hope the team doesn't just hire some other journeyman retread coach. Is anyone really enthusiastic about hiring someone like Scott Skiles?

user-pic
mymanjrue reply to buke on Apr 15 at 1:09
+/-

certainly not. Skiles is pretty similar in style to Collins anyway, to my knowledge. I agree-a retread is not needed; creative, intelligent approach to the hiring process is what is. Knock wood

Well, in my opinion, this is the wrong move. Collins wasn't perfect but still was one of the top 6-7 coaches in the NBA IMO. Those coaches don't exactly grow on trees. I think it's extremely likely that the team will hire a worse coach than Doug.

That being said i've always said that Doug views himself as part of the franchise long term (which is why i always thought he is not necessarily in win now mode only) and i think it would be a good idea to keep him in some capacity in the front office.

A major overhaul in the FO might follow. I don't think DiLeo has done a bad job at all, but i think he should return to his role of draft mastermind, which he is very good at. A new GM with a strong and detailed plan in place might be needed and if that is the case i wouldn't hire a coach before i hire a GM. Also that new GM better have enough time to properly analyze the Bynum situation and have control over things in the offseason. The time for the overhaul is NOW.

I guess this means the team will probably go into full on tank mode. That has to be a good thing right?

he was due $4.5 mill next season if he was fired. guessing they worked out some type of deal for his resignation.

Exile on Kenny Payne Street on Apr 15 at 8:48

maybe they keep michael curry as an assistant?

Saw somewhere that James is already leaving town. My gut feeling is if Curry isn't named HC, he's the next out the door, and I hope he isn't named HC.

user-pic
Exile on Kenny Payne Street reply to Brian on Apr 15 at 9:16

james and collins are tied together by a string, so that move makes sense, but curry is not a package with collins like james is. i also hope curry isn't the HC but would love to see him kept by the next HC, like collins kept mckie.

If he isn't the head coach there is no way Curry will remain with the team as an assistant. I hope he is not the head coach, he'd essentially be a poor man's Collins, but i think there is 70% chance that he will be.

Weird - checked the new thread first, not the old one - figured brian would have a celebration thread already - oh well

Doug Collins maintaining his streak of not coaching 3 full nba seasons at any coaching stop.

Thank god all those rumors were dispelled last week huh? At least with quitting it means gone, not moved into the front office

top 6 or 7 coach in the nba might be the most ridiculous thing stated in this thread...the collins mythos continues to befuddle those who can't look past the front of their face and who insist on comparing collins just to the pantheon of recently bad sixers coaches

user-pic
Tray reply to GoSixers on Apr 15 at 11:37

I don't see how you get around this team's massive overachievements on defense. We were really great last season even with Hawes in the middle, and this year with maybe one plus defender in the starting rotation (and he didn't have a very good defensive season), and all kinds of liabilities like Turner and Hawes and Nick Young, we are flat-league average. That might not seem like a huge accomplishment, but it is when you consider the talent.

This is from an ESPN.com article on Collins, very Rat like if true - build the disaster, leave someone else to clean up the mess

With the franchise in decline after the Andrew Bynum trade was a massive flop, Collins decided he wanted no part of what could be a long rebuilding effort.

So someone on the radio just blamed this firing on Evan Turner...I found that funny

user-pic
Matt reply to GoSixers on Apr 15 at 12:57
+/-

It's kind of like how kids feel the blame for divorce.

Oh that's always fun let me tell you - but somehow the caller made it the player versus the coach thing - and if Evan Turner really has that kind of sway - the organization is screwed.

user-pic
buke reply to GoSixers on Apr 15 at 15:13

Agreed. The only person Evan Turner could get fired is himself.

He keeps trying - but it seems like that's not even something he can accomplish

user-pic
buke reply to GoSixers on Apr 15 at 15:27

How true! We'll have to wait for this summer to see whether he finally can say "Mission Accomplished."
