, all the time

Still have the sneaking suspicion that Kyle Farnsworth is going to wind up in Philly. Phil's middle relief Ryan Madson pulled himself out of the eighth yesterday, commenting that he felt a 'pop' in his shoulder and suspects a tear. He may be done for the season. I just hope they don't give away the shop in the trade.

Check out this article about Farnsworth:

Thanks for the info.. that's a great site! I can't believe Atlanta ponied up for Teixeira.

I read the article on Farnsworth's value, but still worry about the Phils. Three writers here have mentioned him in town, even my son thinks he'd be a good acquisition. I don't share their enthusiasm, but after watching our middle relief all season, I'm of the opinion that he's no worse than what we have but that we'll wind up trading too much for him. Before the Yankees astutely acquired a Molina, I would have lived with Barajas for Farnsworth.

Joba Chamberlain, now, there would be a guy to acquire, although the Yankees aren't stupid. Chamberlain for Rowand? Future value for current All-Star? As long as it isn't Rowand for Farnsworth, that would really piss me off.

After watching the Pirates series, there's a guy on my radar screen that could help the Yankee bullpen in special situations without breaking the bank. He's lefty reliever Damaso Marte, who hasn't allowed a hit in his last 30 appearances vs. lefties. He pitched two scoreless innings vs. a formidable Phils lineup over the weekend and this year has a 3 to 1 S.O. ration and 1.38 ERA in 33 innings pitched. With all the lefthanded power in the Phils lineup, I'd hate to see this guy pitching for the Mutts or Braves. And if he was pitching for the Yankees, imagine how handy he'd be to bring in vs. lefties like Jim Thome, Grady Sizemore and David Ortiz in the upcoming series vs. the White Sox, Indians and Red Sox.

(Still worried that Gillick doesn't know the differnece between s**t and shineola and that Cashman will get the better of him again.)

Marte was awesome against the Yanks earlier this year, I'd definitely love to see the Yanks get him. Haven't heard his name come up at all in rumors, which means nothing, of course.

Good call.

does anyone think the yanks will be able to get Gagne without givin up chamberlain or kennedy?

That's a good question. I think the answer is if they can't get him without giving up either of those guys, then they don't get him.

I'm in the process of writing up a post on the future of these young pitchers, check back later.

At this point, do you think the Yankees would consider Aaron Rowand for Joba Chamberlain?

And everyone wants Gagne, this may sound like sour grapes because the Phils aren't in the running, but I watched him pitch a few innings and didn't think he was worth all the fuss. Don't you think whoever gets him is going to overpay?

BTW... What did Atlanta give up for Teixeira?

I don't think the Yanks will consider Chamberlain for anyone short of Johan Santana at this point. Or at least I hope that's the case.

I don't think Gagne's coming to NY at this point, not at the price I've heard.

The Braves gave up Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, and two pitching prospects. The Braves also got back Ron Mahay.

Here's a link to a write-up on the trade and a nice comment string debating the pros and cons for both sides.
