The last time a playoff team experienced the type of turnover the Sixers have this summer was in 2010 when Miami gutted their roster to make room for Chris Bosh and LeBron James. Obviously, no one in Miami thought twice before making those moves. It's hardly a risk to jettison guys like Michael Beasley to make room for the best player on the planet and an All Star power forward to join forces with Dwyane Wade. The Sixers, however, had to give up value to get value. The first part of this series will examine exactly what they gave up.

Adrian Wojnarowski has the scoop on a potential trade in which the Sixers would help facilitate a deal to send Dwight Howard to the Lakers. It's a four-team trade (which makes is highly unlikely), but the Sixers part would be sending Iguodala to Denver and getting Bynum from the Lakers. Sign me up.

When the Sixers play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight, for two-and-a-half hours I plan on forgetting all about the previous 35 games, the remaining 30, the race for home-court advantage in the East, the team's long-term cap situation and really anything other than what's happening on the court. Specifically, what's happening with two superb matchups.

With no true post player, and the only legit scoring threat up front being a small, non-stretch PF, the Sixers are left to rely on their backcourt for a whole lot. On the defensive end, they have to work from the outside in. On the offensive end, not only do the smalls have to spoon-feed opportunities to the bigs, but they have to handle the bulk of the scoring as well. For the first 25 games of the season, they did just that. In the last six, they haven't even come close.

The latest in a string of demonstrative wins came over Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls tonight at the Wells Fargo Center, 98-82. Here's the thing about this win that should have people taking notice. The Sixers played the exact same game they've been playing all year. They used the exact same formula they've been using to kill bad teams to absolutely demoralize the Chicago Bulls. Derek Rose had no clue what to do against the Sixers defense in the third quarter. For all intents and purposes, the Bulls looked about as effective against this Sixers defense as the Wizards. (game capsule, by the way, check after the jump for the rest of the posterization above)

The Sixers impressed tonight with their play, to be sure, but what was perhaps more impressive was their energy. On the second night of a back-to-back, against a bad team, with a series of games against strong teams on the horizon, the Sixers showed a relentless focus and put the Pistons away for their 14th win of the season. The defense was there all night. In the first half, the Hawks shot a completely unsustainable percentage on long twos. In the second half, they missed their jumpers, if they could even get a shot off, and the Sixers energy was too much for the Hawks (or anyone else) to handle. Big win to take over the #2 spot in the Eastern Conference. (game capsule)
