Click for full story. When a coach finds himself at the helm of a team circling the drain, sometimes he tries to mix things up. You could call it grasping at straws. You might call it pressing the panic button. Whatever you call it, Doug Collins did it tonight when he started Andres Nocioni at power forward. The result: A humongous hole in the first quarter the team could never dig themselves out of. (game capsule).

Click for full story. The amnesty clause is going to be debated back and forth for the next couple of weeks, and possibly longer among every fan base in the league. For the Sixers, you're probably going to hear three names mentioned. Elton Brand, because he hasn't lived up to his contract. Andre Iguodala, because there's a moronic hatred toward the guy. And finally, Andres Nocioni, because he hasn't lived up to his contract and there's a legitimate hatred for the guy. Let's start with the mullet. (Skip to the end for my first meltdown of the 2011-2012 season)

Click for full story. Andres Nocioni and his mystical mullet of years past headline today's edition of prediction vs. performance. Nocioni's tough veteran-ness was clearly the reason for the Sixers surprising playoff run, let's see how he measured up to my preseason predictions.

Click for full story. Andres Nocioni has re-entered the perimeter rotation as part of Doug Collins' effort to sort out the minute distribution among six players: Jrue Holiday, Jodie Meeks, Andre Iguodala, Lou Williams, Evan Turner and Nocioni. Let's take a close look at how these guys have performed, in combinations, then I'll try to come up with my ideal rotation at the one, two and three.

Click for full story. There was nothing impressive about the first three quarters. The Sixers defense was lackluster, their offense was scattered and almost lazy, their energy was sporadic, at best. That all changed at the beginning of the fourth. The Sixers erased a double-digit deficit and took down the Hawks.

Click for full story. So far this season, Doug Collins has picked his spots to make changes. He likes to implement them when the team has a couple of off days, then he sort of trickles the news into the media, then the next time the team takes the floor, the change happens. Meeks into the starting lineup, Iguodala to point-forward are a couple of examples. Well, the meme over this break has been increased roles for Tony Battie and Andres Nocioni for the home stretch.

Click for full story. We're still at least three days away from Andre Iguodala's return from achilles tendinitis, but something Bob Cooney said in a video yesterday got me thinking. What's going to happen when Iguodala gets back on the floor?

Click for full story. Andre Iguodala missed his second consecutive game but his replacements more than picked up the slack against a defensively disinterested Phoenix Suns squad. About halfway through the game, I realized Vince Carter will be a perfect fit for the Suns. He's only 50% more disinterested than the entire franchise. This game may just have been Evan Turner's coming out party, and it was definitely fun to watch.

Click for full story. The Sixers survived their third-quarter collapse and bounced back in a big way to notch their second win in as many games, and their fifth on the season. They won this game with a tremendous defensive effort in the second half, and the fourth quarter in particular. Portland only scored 11 points in the fourth.

Click for full story. Are the Spurs better than the Sixers? Yes, obviously. Are they 30 points better than the Sixers? Probably not, but when you add in the extra rest for SAS and the back-to-back for the Sixers, maybe they are. Are the Sixers as bad as they played tonight? No. Will I now stop asking myself questions and then answering them? Possibly.

Click for full story. Everyone, including Doug Collins, realizes the starting lineup(s) he's trotted out there simply don't work. I'm not quite sure why he's sticking to his guns after a 1-4 start, but judging from the minute distribution, it's clear he has no faith in two of his starters. Here's the question, what would your starting five be if you were calling the shots?

Click for full story. The Philadelphia 76ers are worth the price of admission. There's no doubt about that statement right now. When they're bad, and they've had some horrible stretches in the first two games, it's like watching a trainwreck. Their glaring weakness is laid bare on nearly every play. Doug Collins is helpless to stop it. But when they're good, they're electric. We had a taste of both in tonight's 104-101 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Click for full story. Thankfully, I was unable to watch the Sixers' third preseason loss. I'm not sure exactly how a team can cough up a 7-point lead in 15 seconds, but I'd venture a guess Andres Nocioni's epic toughness (pictured above as he fights his teammate for a rebound), grizzled veteran-ness and non-existent defense played a large part. Wins and losses in the preseason don't mean much to me, though, so I'd like to talk about how the game started, rather than how it was blown.

Click for full story. The latest subject of our Early Predictions series is SF/PF Andres Nocioni, the only player in the history of the league to successfully pull off the trifecta of toughness (pictured above): 1. Argentinian, 2. Mullet, 3. Goatee.
