They just wouldn't be the Sixers if they didn't kick you in the face just when you were starting to believe. The only question after tonight's drubbing at the hands of the Celtics is whether the sky is falling, or if it has already fallen. First step for a lower seed in a seven game series: Split the first two on the road. Second step: Take game three. Third step: let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Sixers took one of two in Boston, now they need to take care of their home floor. Tonight, the Celitcs will look to take home court advantage back and send a message to the Sixers. That's the narrative they'd like to follow. I've got something different in mind.

The Sixers and Celtics have been engaged in a fierce battle through these first two games. Both teams have escaped mostly unscathed as far as injuries go. Elton Brand is nursing a shoulder/neck problem from the Chicago series. Avery Bradley left game two with a shoulder problem. Thad Young tweaked an ankle. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have both been dealing with leg issues. Injuries alone don't tell the whole story of the toll the Celtics have paid.

This is why we watch playoff basketball. The highs, the lows, the growth, the guts...Just an amazing, amazing display of intestinal fortitude by the Sixers tonight in taking home court advantage away from the Boston Celtics, 82-81. A huge win, and a big first step. Meaningless, though, without the next three. Don't get too high, don't get too low. (game capsule).

Lost amid the hysteria of Derrick Rose's injury in round one was a significant change Doug Collins made prior to game two. If you recall, Rose didn't really kill the Sixers in that opening loss, he scored an inefficient 23 points. Rip Hamilton and Kyle Korver killed the Sixers by running through a series of screens. That play didn't hurt the Sixers again after the first game. The Sixers adjustments made Kyle Korver a complete non-factor and had Rip looking elsewhere for offensive opportunities. What adjustments will we see tonight?

This is going to be more of a war than a series. The first battle went to the Celtics tonight. The Sixers blew an opportunity to steal game one on the road, but this is far from a death knell. This was the Sixers setting the tone and showing the Celtics they're in for a fight. This was also 36 minutes for Kevin Garnett, 39 minutes for Paul Pierce and 40 minutes for Rajon Rondo, to hold serve. As the road team, you want to split the first two games. It's just going to have to happen in game two. (game capsule)

Kevin Garnett is sick of people calling him old. Well, that's too bad because he is old. He's old, and Doc Rivers has been forced to grossly overwork him to get the Celtics into the playoffs and through the first round. It's time for all of those minutes to come back to haunt Garnett and Pierce. It's time for the Sixers to use their young legs to run the shallow, old Celtics right out of the playoffs.

The Bulls stifling defense coupled with the Sixers woeful shooting has resulted in some of the worst scoring production we've seen all year over the past three games. Welcome to the playoffs. In a series like this, scoring efficiently is mostly a pipe dream. Just scoring is the priority, scratching and clawing just enough to support the dominant defense you're playing on the other end of the floor. Forget fixing the offense or flat out beating the defense, you have to find ways to simply tilt the odds in your favor.

Please don't jump off a bridge tonight. It's a best-of-seven series, win Thursday and this loss just means they blew an opportunity to get a couple extra days of rest. The offense looked terrible tonight, without a doubt. But the defense was still there. The defense was actually probably better in this game than the previous two, Chicago padded their offense with literally about 15 points on completely terrible shots that somehow fell. Calm down.
