Perfect in terms of record, but hardly in terms of play. The Sixers polished off their abbreviated preseason schedule with a mostly-disheartening effort against the hapless Washington Wizards, and one hell of a finish.

Well, first off I'd like to say that it's great to have another season of hoops ahead of us, even an abbreviated/crazy/jam-packed one. Even if it's still only the preseason, it's good to see actual basketball come back and not have to talk about BRI and revenue sharing.
The Sixers got off to a very good start away from the Wells Fargo Center Friday night with a 103-78 dismantling of the Washington Wizards. Truly, the game was only made as close as it was by the Wizards backups having a very strong 4th quarter against the Sixers' bench. When the Sixers' main guys were on the floor, they played like they were still mad about the two gut-wrenching losses they suffered last year in this very same building. |

Uh, no. 30% behind the arc is 0.9 points. 40% from 20 feet is 0.8 points....

Much was made of Doug Collins history of turning teams around in his first year at the helm last year. He comes in, shakes things up, settles them down and puts wins on the board for his team. Unfortunately, that first-year turnaround was overshadowed by his departure (after three years in Chicago and Detroit, two years in Washington). Coaching has always been hard on Collins, and his style has worn on players in the past. Today, let's take a look at how his teams have performed in their second year under him, since that's pretty relevant right about now.

Kate Fagan and Adrian Wojnarowski have the scoop via Twitter. Thad won't test the market, the Sixers have apparently locked him down for five years for $42M. Woj had the number first, Kate had the deal being done.

Ric Bucher has the scoop on several rule changes, points of emphasis for the refs and new rules. One interpretation in particular should be dubbed "The Blake Griffin Rule" as it's main purpose is to stop this from happening. A bit of analysis to follow.

The schedule is out, and the Sixers will open the season in Portland on boxing day. Their West Coast trip lasts five games and features a back-to-back, a tough one, going from Utah to Golden State for their typical New Year's Eve game (my wife is thrilled about this). More on the schedule after the jump.

Here's one that could shake things up on the floor without (a) breaking up the "young core" or (b) taking on any long term money. How does this starting lineup grab you: Jrue Holiday, Jodie Meeks, Andre Iguodala, Josh Smith, Elton Brand?
