The A.S. festivities are over, the Sixers will be back at practice later tonight, but we've got a couple of days to kill before they lace 'em up for real. If you're lucky enough to have today off from work, enjoy it. If you're stuck in the office, we've got more than enough topics to kill the time.

The NBA has chosen All Star weekend to cement Blake Griffin's status as a super-duper star. Last night's Rookie/Sophomore Challenge was merely the appetizer. Tonight, the hype machine will spool up again for the Slam Dunk contest. The shooting stars competition, the three-point shootout, the skills challenge are merely preamble to the great Blake taking center stage. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to miss most of the action. Use this open thread throughout the day and the night's festivities if you're watching.

Now is as good a time as any to evaluate how the Sixers have done so far this season, so I put together a "report card" of sorts to grade the main eight players in their rotation (with apologies to Nocioni, Speights, and others who have not played enough to receive grades).

You earned it. Another big bounce-back win for the Sixers, this time over the Houston Rockets, brings the nominal first half of the season to a close. The Sixers matched their win total from the entire 2009-2010 season by the All Star break. Somewhere, Eddie Jordan just shed a tear (while licking his braces).

When the final buzzer sounds, Jrue Holiday will be on his way to LA to compete in the Rookies vs. Sophs challenge on All Star Weekend. Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand will be headed home for some well-deserved rest. Lou Williams will probably be headed to a recording studio. Spencer Hawes will probably be doing anything he can to avoid improving his basketball game. The Sixers players, as human beings, have things to look forward to, but they cannot afford to start their vacation a day early.

Where the Sixers are left after another disappointing loss to the red-hot Memphis Grizzlies. The good news: They've got a chance to right the ship tomorrow night heading into the All Star break.

The last time the Sixers met the Memphis Grizzlies should still be fresh in your mind. For roughly 30 minutes, the Sixers absolutely demolished Memphis, then it all fell apart when the Griz emptied their bench and went to a zone. Thinking about the game makes you grind your teeth and shake your head. Tonight is about righting that wrong.

As a fan base, one aspect of the Sixers that people over the last couple of years have come to a general consensus on is that Andre Iguodala is a great defender. This has always been true of course, but it's about time people around the country start taking notice.

If you woke up Sunday morning and took a look at John Hollinger's power rankings on ESPN, you may have been shocked to find the Sixers sitting all alone at number eight. Not eighth in the Eastern Conference, eighth in the entire league. While a ranking that high is hard to justify, there are plenty of reasons to believe this team is for real.
