Coming off the high of watching Eddie Jordan deftly bring home a demonstrative defeat at the hands of a vastly inferior team last night, there can be no letdown when Larry Brown brings his Bobcats into the Wach tonight. This game has meaning for the Bobcats, they're really going to want it, so Eddie Jordan, do what you do best. Lose this game.

If you got sucked in some time in the third quarter of this Sixers loss (thier 9th in a row), I'm sorry, but you should've known better. If you felt confident when they had an 89-99 lead with 4:22 to go, I wish you would've looked at the bench to see (a) who was calling the shots for the Sixers and (b) which Sixers players were sitting over there, passively watching. When you take those two things into account, a 10-point lead with 4:22 remaining is pretty much a coin flip. Tonight, it came up tails.

I'm going to walk the streets of Brooklyn looking vulnerable in the hopes that someone will try to mug me so I can release some of this anger for a couple of hours. In my absence, use this post to vent your frustrations. For the record, the Sixers led 99-89 with 4:22 left in the game. Jordan stuck with his small lineup, the Bobcats had 1 empty possession the rest of the game and scored 17 points to take the game 106-105. I'll have a full wrap later tonight.

I know how you're going to try to talk yourself into thinking the Sixers are going to win tonight. It's going to start with, "Well, we just beat them a couple weeks ago." Well, that argument simply doesn't hold water. The only reason we beat them on Nov. 18th is 42 unbelievable minutes from Elton Brand. Tonight, he won't even be a starter. It'll take serious foul trouble for someone to even get him 30 minutes. There really isn't much hope at all.

If you're looking for a celebration for that win, you're going to have to look elsewhere. It took a monster effort from Elton Brand, in 42 minutes of work, to squeak out a two-point win over a hapless Bobcats team, at home. That's really not something to celebrate.

The Sixers and the Bobcats come into tonight's game scuffling. Both teams are having serious problems on one side of the ball, neither has an identity. I'm fully expecting a street brawl on the floor with Brown clogging the lane mercilessly and the Sixers cruelly inviting Charlotte to hit open jumpers. Here's the problem, though. In a street fight, usually the craziest guy wins.

At this time of year, 24 minutes of effort and desire is never, ever going to cut it. Not when you have pipe dreams of finishing with the #5 seed. The Sixers really shouldn't be patting themselves on the back for almost coming back from 20 down tonight, they should be embarrassed that they fell that far behind in such an important game.

That's the question of the night. Is it enough to just make the playoffs? Are the Sixers content to lick their wounds over the last nine days of the season and coast into a near-impossible first round matchup? Or do they play like seeding matters. Do they play like they still have a golden opportunity staring themselves in the face. I know one thing for sure, the Bobcats won't be taking anything for granted tonight, they can't afford to.

Games like tonight are what make me fairly certain the Sixers would have a better record right now had Elton Brand not gotten hurt. There's no way they would ever get destroyed on the boards like that if he was in the lineup. As it was, Larry Brown out Larry Browned Tony DiLeo and the Sixers squandered another opportunity.

There is one coach in this league who I fear, now that Jeff Van Gundy is in the announcer's booth. That man is none other than Larry Brown (AKA, The Rat, frequently in our comments section.) I don't fear Phil Jackson, I don't fear Jerry Sloan, I fear their players maybe, but not the coaches themselves. Larry Brown, though, is a guy who I think could probably take a group of five stiffs and get them to put up a decent fight. If the Sixers are going to win tonight against the Bobcats, they're probably going to have to win ugly.

You should beat the Charlotte Bobcats at home. That's just a fact. This is a game the Sixers should have won, and they did. If you're going to make the playoffs, you can't have letdown games, especially at home. So the win isn't the big news. The streak of three is more important. The quality of play over the past 6 or 7 is even bigger.

I'll always have that warm spot for Larry Brown, but that doesn't stop me from wanting the Sixers to mop the floor with his Bobcats team tonight. A quick look at the game after the jump.
