Tonight's game in Cleveland, against the Cavs (who will be missing Irving, Varejao and Waiters) is the first of three straight against the dregs of the league. Only a complete lack of energy and/or focus will stop the Sixers from stringing together a four-game win streak. The good new for the pro-tanking crowd is there's really nowhere for them to move up in the standings.

Tonight's game in Cleveland is more than a trap. This is one of those games, much like the Pistons loss, where if you lose, it's going to be the worst kind of ammunition for people who want to say the Sixers are terrible. "How do you get blown out by an 0-8 team on your home court? The Sixers suck!" I don't want to be reading, "How do you lose to the Cavs without Kyrie Irving?" tomorrow morning.

And just like that, the entire season changes. No longer are the Sixers slumping to the lottery, but they sit 2.5 games ahead of the folding Bucks, seemingly secure in the final playoff slot in the East, a date with the Chicago Bulls written in dry-eraser on the white board! It's good to know the stretch of seven games against top-notch opponents didn't make the Sixers forget how to treat a bad team. Last night, the Sixers manhandled the Cavs and put another lopsided win on the board. (game capsule).

The Sixers did everything they could in the first and fourth quarters to insure they wouldn't capture that elusive four-game win streak, but when push came to shove, Thad Young decided to shove. You certainly can't commend them for the game they played, but pulling out the road W was huge and as I write, the Sixers are only a half game out of the #6 seed.

I've been somewhat out of commission posting-wise because of the holidays and work, but I've been thinking of a simpler version of my "Differential Production" (DP) statistic. I'm sure the idea isn't new: calculate a reverse boxscore for a game. Next to a player's name will be the statistics of all the players he was guarding. The totals of the reverse boxscore should equal the team totals of the opposing team.

Win the ones you're supposed to win. To be successful in this league, that's the first step. Last night, the Sixers did just that. They used the first quarter to build a lead, then spent the rest of the night keeping Cleveland at arm's length until they delivered the fatal blow in the fourth. Exactly how you draw it up.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost four straight games by a total of 91 points. Included in the impressive list of defeats was a 34-point drubbing at the hands of the mighty Minnesota Timberwolves. Their early-season luck has run out and this shell of a team is reeling. The Sixers can have no mercy.

Charts and game capsule have been added/updated Well, the run of impressive effort keeping the Sixers in games when their talent dictates they should not be has officially run out. Cleveland is a poor team, I'd still take bets they won't win 30 games, despite their 5-5 start, and they made the Sixers look sophomoric tonight in handing Philly their 9th loss in 11 tries.
