The Sixers will begin their toughest stretch of the year tonight in Dallas. Jrue is apparently listed as a game-time decision, but I'm going in certain he won't play. Collins said a few more days on Sunday, and no one comes back earlier than expected for this team...ever. So it's Turner's show to run for one more game, at least.

The last time the Sixers "lucked" into a dominant big man, things didn't work out quite as expected. Elton Brand played hard for the Sixers and was a consummate professional, but his time in Philly will never be considered a success. Tonight, he brings his talents back to Broad Street so Josh Harris and Co. can pay him roughly $16M to play against the Sixers with the Mavs.

The first half went exactly as we'd hoped, the second half went exactly as we'd feared. What was once a 15-point lead turned into a six-point loss as the Sixers slump becomes more and more alarming. (game capsule).

Tucked right between a three-game road trip and a four-game road trip is one game at the WFC for the Sixers, against the defending champs. The Mavs started slowly, but they'll bring a five-game win streak along with them tonight. The Sixers have their work cut out for them in their first national game of the season.

Well, something had to give at the WFC tonight, and it wound up being the Sixers' modest four-game streak. Jason Terry was unconscious and got whatever he wanted unless Andre Iguodala was guarding him. Unfortunately, Iguodala only covered him for a couple of minutes.

The Mavs come in having won their past six games, the longest current streak in the league. The Sixers have taken down four in-a-row, the second longest. By 10pm tonight, one streak will have ended. Let's see if we can point out a few keys to help the Sixers keep theirs going.

This Sixers team amazes me nearly every time they take the floor. They face such a monumental uphill battle against teams with any semblance of a frontcourt, yet somehow, they hang in there. Every couple of minutes I glance down at the score and expect to see them down by 20 points, but the deficit rarely grows larger than eight or nine. They fight, they rally, they slide back and they rally again. If Rod Thorn could only pull a seven-footer with a pulse out of his hat...well, let's save that for another day, we've got a loss to discuss for now.

The Sixers road trip continues tonight in Dallas against a Mavs team riding a two-game win streak. The Mavs beat Boston, on the road, then took a measure of revenge against Grizzlies who handed Dirk and Co. their first loss of the season. Can the Sixers turn in another good effort against a playoff team? Will that effort translate into a concrete win this time, rather than just a moral victory? Let's look at the matchups:

The Dallas Mavericks are a good team, a very good team. They're a relatively efficient offensive team (13th in the league), so I don't see how you can look at this game in any other way than a great defensive effort and a quality W.
