The Sixers may be without the services of Jrue Holiday (boot pictured above), who was diagnosed with a sprained foot yesterday, for their road game in Indy tonight. Jrue is officially day-to-day, and will travel with the team, so there's a chance he'll suit up. Either way, tonight is probably the point at which this schedule flips on its head.

Typically, in this league made for TV, production equals respect. I'm not talking about respect from the national media, or respect from the fans, I'm talking about respect from the refs. When you're an unknown rookie, you don't get the borderline whistles. When you're mostly a jump shooter who rarely ventures into the lane, you don't get the borderline whistles. When you're a finesse player who shies away from contact, you don't get the borderline whistles. Jrue is none of those things anymore, and it's about time he started getting the benefit of the doubt.

If I told you Jrue only turned the ball over one time and went to the line nine times, how much would you guess the Sixers won by? 10? 20? In allowing the Detroit Pistons to pick up their first win of the season, the Sixers demonstrated exactly how badly they need Andrew Bynum. The Sixer bigs were an embarrassment last night, and the fact their performance stood out to me when the entire team shot 29% from the floor says something.

The PPG crowd is probably over the moon with how Jrue has started the season. Even most advanced stats show a strong improvement for Jrue through the first seven games of the season. The eye test would even lead you to believe he's made a huge step, if not a leap...but those turnovers. Man oh man, those turnovers.

Last season, over 79 games (including playoffs), Jrue Holiday played exactly 9 minutes and 57 seconds without Andre Iguodala, Evan Turner or Lou Williams on the floor with him. That's not a surprise, considering those three were a huge part of the rotation, but it's significant because this year, he's going to have the opportunity to play the Steve Nash role more often, hopefully, he'll play it exclusively when he's on the floor.

With Andrew Bynum sitting idly by, the Sixers took the floor against the refurbished Boston Celtics (sans Garnett) last night for our first glimpse of the post-Iguodala era in Philadelphia. The game had a strange kind of feeling at times, at other times it felt eerily similar to the past couple of seasons. Most of the time, I was just letting the differences sink in. There are things to like, definitely, foremost among them is the road kill perched atop Spencer Hawes' dome. Seeing him wear that mullet in public is almost worth the pain of having to watch him play.

The past couple of days featured two games which carried very little meaning, and a cautiously worded bit of news concerning the Sixers savior's problematic knee. Let's add some meaning to the meaningless and dissect Bynum's procedures to kick off our week.

The first three years of Jrue Holiday's career have been equal parts tease, promise and growth. Unbiased observers could say he's been a disappointment, an overachiever or a burgeoning star without being totally off base. Year four, however, is when the ambiguity needs to end.

Coming into the season, I had big hopes for Jrue. In his third year, I expected him to take a big step forward and assert himself as a leader on the team and a top-ten point guard in the league. Things didn't quite go as planned, though there's definitely reason for hope.

Do or die, part one. The Sixers did. On a night when the Sixers went through just a gruesome lull on the offensive end, they put together 48 minutes of the toughest defense you'll ever see to put the Celtics to bed 82-75 and send the series back to Boston for a decisive game seven. (game capsule)

Doug Collins adjusted to and exploited Boston's small lineup in game four with Lavoy Allen and Thad Young. In game five, Doc Rivers took a look at the Sixers roster and realized going small was doing them a favor, so he went bigger. The Sixers weathered the size disadvantage for 24 minutes, then collapsed. 3-2, Boston, heading back to Philly for game 6. (game capsule).

Please don't jump off a bridge tonight. It's a best-of-seven series, win Thursday and this loss just means they blew an opportunity to get a couple extra days of rest. The offense looked terrible tonight, without a doubt. But the defense was still there. The defense was actually probably better in this game than the previous two, Chicago padded their offense with literally about 15 points on completely terrible shots that somehow fell. Calm down. Spencer Hawes' inspired play late in game three and carried over into game four has been a pleasant surprise, and absolutely crucial to the Sixers 3-1 lead in their first round series with the Chicago Bulls, but the big theme, and the potentially unsolvable problem for Tom Thibodeau is the play of Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner, in tandem.

For the second consecutive game, the Sixers have closed out a tight contest with a relentless attack of the hoop, a chip on their shoulder and suffocating defense. Every run was answered today. Every Bulls foray into the lane met with a hard contest, foul, or both. The Sixers took care of home court advantage and hold a commanding 3-1 lead over the Bulls in this first round matchup.
