A year ago yesterday, we took a look at what the Sixers would be missing in the absence of Andre Miller, and how they could make up for that production. Today, let's see how that worked out.
The Sixers - or at least some of them - will play their fourth game in four nights against the Bobcats at 7 PM. I read a cryptic tweet earlier that made it seem like Speights may not be playing anymore in Orlando. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I've been bombarded by marketing e-mails from the Sixers over the past couple of days. They're trying to sell season tickets, which is how they make their money, so good for them. The thing I found kind of odd was the message they're using.
Latest comment: from Ricky - Sixers4guidosI respectfully think that you are too high on Iguodala, Brian :-)...
I wouldn't call it pretty basketball, but it was a form of the sport. The Sixers took down the Nets in their first summer league game of the season last night, I have some quick thoughts after the jump.
Take a gander at the Sixers team page on 82games.com, I'll wait. Two particular numbers jumped out at me, opponent's production vs. Lou (17.2) and vs. Jrue (19.9). 15.0 is supposedly league-average, the lower the number, the better. Having watched every second of Sixers basketball this season, I can emphatically tell you Lou Williams isn't half the defender Jrue Holiday is, so how do you explain that number? We'll give it a try after the jump.
Latest comment: from rswknightI've never seen a player whose def stance looks like his back went out once he crosses half court. Just kills me...
As many of you know, Synergy Sports has opened up their database to the masses. For $30 you can access a version of their service created for the masses. Click here for the details (make sure your computer can handle it before you buy). I expect to be spending way too much time looking at the video and granular stats they provide for the remainder of the summer, and I'll share my thoughts with you as I go along. Today, Jrue's post defense.
I've talked about my belief in the core of this team. This season has whittled it down to its purest form. Two players, an honest-to-goodness pure point guard and a swing capable of playing the two or the three. Between then, they can effectively guard four positions on the floor. If things progress as I believe they could, they could easily average 35 points, 10+ boards and 10+ assists per game between them. After the jump, let's take a look around the league and see how Andre Iguodala and Jrue Holiday would measure up, should they reach their potential together.
Since 33 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 1 block and only 3 turnovers simply isn't enough for a segment of Sixers fans, I decided to take a closer look at the overall effort Andre Iguodala put forth in yesterday's overtime loss to the Raptors. Check it out after the jump.
Just one day without lamenting the ramifications of this win, that's my proposal. Forget about how important losses are and just revel in what was an excellent game of basketball and hopefully a glimpse of what will fuel this team in the future (Jrue and Iguodala). Spend your Saturday thinking about the game on the court we saw Friday night, the other stuff, well it can wait until Sunday.
Latest comment: from The GreekGood job Tom, I loved that he didn't claim to know that they are eliminated!...
Jrue Holiday (1,372) has now played more minutes than Willie Green (1,334). If your Monday is going anything like mine, you could us a pick-me-up. Preview/game thread for the Orlando game coming around 5.

Each time I find myself thinking this team couldn't possibly look worse, they surpass their previous low point with a performance like Saturday night's vs. the Bulls. Maybe at some point I'll learn my lesson.
This season, and this team, have become a horrible, horrible punchline to a joke that isn't all that funny. Eddie Jordan coached this game to win tonight. 100%, he was pulling all the strings he could to get a W. The players weren't exactly lazy out there, they just have absolutely nothing to fall back on. Their systems are flawed, their priorities are out of whack and to top it off, the wrong players are on the floor at the wrong time. Andre Iguodala is lost, Elton Brand is resigned, Sam Dalembert is clueless, Willie Green and Lou Williams are useless, Marreese Speighs is still hurt. Anything and everything that can possibly be wrong with this team, is. And I can only hope that things stay like this for another 13 games.
I've kind of written off the whole, "worst team ever" thing where the Nets are concerned this season, mainly because I thought they had some decent pieces and they've just run into some bad luck from the jump this year. After what I saw on the floor last night, though, I'm pretty sure they've earned their record.
Latest comment: from deepsixersuedeGay!s development this year is one of my main reasons for optimism with Thad; it seemed to click for him , all of a sudden....
I have to be honest, I didn't believe the Sixers had a loss in them tonight. Not against the Knicks, at home. I mean, this team has been bi-polar to some degree for the past three seasons, so I fully expected them to snap out of this disgusting streak and take care of the Knicks in a laugher. It started out that way, then Edward Jordan took over.
