You Ain't Got No Alibi...

Three wins, two losses. I've been chanting those four words to myself since the game ended to remind myself that the Sixers won a game they should've won tonight. That's a positive. Whenever the loop ends, I'm left with nagging thoughts about a lackluster performance in front of a pitiful crowd. Still, the Sixers came away with a 97-94 win over the depleted New Jersey Nets. Rotations, thoughts and a bonus graphic after the jump. Full story

Lou Has Played Perfect (Offensive) Basketball

From watching the games, I knew Lou Williams was off to a very good start on the offensive end. None of my fears coming into the season about handing him the reins as a starting PG have come true, not in the slightest. Today, I took at look at individual stats and I think I need to point out exactly how unbelievably good Lou has been. Full story

Knicks Take Sixers to O.T.

The Sixers scored 141 points, they shot 60.7% from the floor, they out-rebounded the Knicks by 18 and they finished the game on a 17-0 run, yet I'm still having trouble mustering any kind of enthusiasm for this win. Full story

Sixers Take First Preseason Game

The Sixers used and abused the shorthanded Raptors in the first half tonight, then held on for their first meaningless win under Eddie Jordan. The final was 107-98. A few notes and stats after the jump. Full story

Jrue's Minutes

A couple of articles got caught by my filter over the past couple days about Lou Williams' confidence in stepping into the role of starting point guard, and e-mailed to me by loyal readers (thanks Dean). One blurb in particular caught my eye. Basically, Lou said he's going to be playing 30-35 minutes per night. I'm sure I realized that would be the case, but I hadn't really thought about it. Nor had I thought about how the minutes will be doled out at the guard positions. After the jump, I'm going to try to make an educated guess and see how Jrue fits in. Full story

A Crazy Comparison

After the jump I'm going to show you guys a comparison of two players through their first four seasons in the league. The numbers are cumulative for the four seasons. One of the players is Lou Williams, I'm going to let you guys guess who the other player is. I'll check in around lunch time with the answer. Full story

The Open Spots

On Friday, we talked about the Sixers assumed plan to play Iguodala, Thad and Brand at the three, four and five, respectively. That leaves two open slots. Coach Jordan made it clear there need not be a point and a shooting guard, the Princeton offense runs with just a pair of guards, regardless of designation. After the jump, we'll take a look at the situation, and possible solutions. Full story

Lou Williams: A Step Back

It's time to take a look back on the 2008-2009 season, and assess how each player performed. More importantly, though, I want to pay close attention to how the pieces on this young team progressed. First up is Lou Williams. Stats, trends, highlights and lowlights after the jump. Full story

Game One Bonus Thoughts

I'm not quite ready to turn the page to game two prep yet, I'm still running that game one finish over and over in my mind. I left a few key points out of the recap, so here are some bullets to get your day started. Full story

The Old Man and Sweet Lou

If the big question was who would step up in Thad Young's absence, the simple answer was just about everyone. In particular, Lou Williams and Donyell Marshall who led a fierce second-half comeback against the weary Bucks en route to a 105-95 win. Full story

A Dangerous Premise

After reading the intro to Bernard Fernandez's piece on Philly.com this morning, I had to take a very deep breath. Full story

Sixers Handed 30th Win

Let's say the karmic basketball gods gave the Sixers this one in return for the Devin Harris game and move on. If not for the monster run the team put together late in the fourth quarter, this game would've been a loss, a tragic, back-breaking loss. I'm still trying to figure out how the Sixers allowed Memphis to shoot 56.4% from the floor. I'm trying to figure out how Marc Gasol and Mike Conley both went off for career highs. I watched every second, and I really can't answer either question. After the jump we'll take a quick look at this close win. Full story
