Inconsistency is not this team's problem. Their big men are consistently soft. Their starting small forward is consistently overmatched and petulant. Their offense consistently depends on one guy to do everything, and everyone else to take low percentage shots. This team built a dominant defense around an extreme strength last season. This year, that strength is a glaring weakness...consistently.

The Sixers will look to build their win over the Rockets on Saturday into a streak tonight against the New Orleans Hornets in Philly. The Hornets probably aren't as bad as their 11-26 record would indicate now that they've got their full team assembled, but they're still a team the Sixers should be able to handle on their home floor.

The Sixers weathered a terrible first half, an up-and-down third quarter, then absolutely blew the Hornets' doors off in the fourth to pick up their third win of the season, 101-93 (game capsule). This game showed us a lot about this young team, how far they've come in the past 14 months, and what still needs to be done for them to take the next step.

When the Hornets traded away Chris Paul, they seemed destined for a high lottery pick in this summer's draft. Then they went out and won their first two games, handily, over the Suns and the Celtics. Well, the fairy tell in New Orleans has come crashing down in their three games since. Three losses to bad teams and all seems to be according to plan once again.

When absolutely nothing was working offensively for Doug Collins and his Sixers squad, he looked down to the end of his bench and essentially decided to pull his goalie late in the fourth quarter. He tapped Jason Kapono to come in and hopefully provide an offensive spark. The crazy thing is that the move actually worked for exactly 2:30, then all hell broke loose while Collins sat idly by.

The Sixers will take on the Hornets tonight, hoping to even up their record at 4-4 on the epic Ice Capades journey. New Orleans currently holds a 20-14 record (11-1 to start the season, 9-13 since). When I look at their roster, though, it becomes clear just how much of a miracle worker Chris Paul is for them.

It's been quite some time since I attended a Sixers blowout win. Today, the boys brought one home in emphatic, nearly historic fashion against a hapless New Orleans team led by a super star who is clearly going to be begging for a trade sooner rather than later.

It's a miracle! The perfect confluence of sub-par opponents, timely absences and swirling trade rumors set the stage for the Sixers to overcome their dimwitted coach and embark on their first bonafide win streak of the season.

A big lineup for the entire fourth quarter (save the final 42 seconds), Jrue Holiday the first guard of the bench and chosen to play the final 15 minutes over Lou Williams. Common sense adjustments we've been calling for all season that were finally made by Eddie Jordan tonight (and partially against Detroit on Sunday). What's next, Elton Brand in the starting lineup?

Like the vast majority of my sports-related wishes, I don't think this one is going to come true. But wish I will. One thing would make this New Orleans/Philadelphia game extremely enjoyable for me, seeing how Jrue Holiday stacks up with the premier point guard in the league, Chris Paul. You can even take it a step further and look forward to Jrue on Paul's backup, and Jrue's college teammate Darren Collison. Unfortunately, if Iverson is healthy I expect Jrue's minutes to take a major hit. Preview and game thread after the jump.
