When you're trying to predict a team's record prior to the season, the first hurdle is always minutes played. When you're dealing with a new coach and a young roster fresh off a dismal season under a terrible coach, it's quite a tricky proposition. Let's take a look at the actual minute distribution, extrapolate it to a full season, laugh at how far off I was back in September and even look at some production metrics.

Tonight's game is the first of a hellish nine that could either embolden this young Sixers squad for a playoff push, ruin the confidence they've built over the past nine, or maybe just show them how hard they're going to have to work to reach the level of some of the teams they're going to face. Learning experience or turning point, the results count, so let's get our predictions on the record.

The West has gotten weaker. At least on paper, it seems that way. Amare and Boozer fled the West, along with a slew of lesser talents. A new championship contender has emerged in the East. The Lakers still have to be the favorites to win it all, but overall, I do believe there will be more parity between the conferences.

The regular season begins tomorrow night with a battle between the Heat and the Celtics. Much like last season's Finals, I'm left with choosing between teams I loathe to root for, so I'll probably sit this out, emotionally. With the clock ticking down, however, it is time for me to get my predictions on the record. We'll take a look from a difference perspective this season.

Six wins, four losses. Can't say I saw that coming in games 41-50, not even close. As this strange and disappointing season unfolds, educated guesses seem to resemble the noun a whole lot more than the adjective. Anyway, after the jump we'll take a quick look back and a long look forward.

When the Sixers take the floor tonight against the New York Knicks, they will officially be tied with Detroit and Indiana for 12th place in the Eastern Conference. They will be 4.5 games out of the playoffs, 5 games out of the #7 seed, 6 games out of the #6 seed and 6.5 games out of the #5 seed. With 46 games remaining, I have absolutely no idea where they'll finish, but let's take a shot at predicting after the jump anyway.
