According to a report from The Deal Pipeline, Joshua Harris (pictured at right) is, in fact, leading a group of investors to buy the Sixers. The talks are ongoing but an announcement is expected within the next two to three weeks. A few more details to follow:
In what can only be described as shocking news, ESPN is reporting the Sixers are not only up for sale, but a deal may be "imminent," to a leveraged buyout specialist.
Currently, this is a second-hand rumor coming from Robert Flores (I'm sure Ric Bucher is happy that his "scoop" is being stolen by an ESPN anchorman, but that's beside the point.) The actual tweet is as follows: "ESPN.com's Ric Bucher reporting #Warriors #76ers discussing Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala trade. #NBA." Thoughts to follow. Here's the actual rumor.
Andres Nocioni and his mystical mullet of years past headline today's edition of prediction vs. performance. Nocioni's tough veteran-ness was clearly the reason for the Sixers surprising playoff run, let's see how he measured up to my preseason predictions.
Last summer the fear was that Thad Young would show sudden improvement in his walk year. Improvement to the point where the Sixers would feel obligated to sign him to a lucrative extension or watch him walk away in restricted free agency. It was a fear because it's hard to trust a sudden bump in production in the year prior to free agency immediately following a couple of lackluster seasons with very little growth. Let's see if that fear came true.
Latest comment: from GoSixersThey thought adding a PF who didn't go into the low post would help Iverson? Billy King was stupider than I thought...
If you don't have Synergy at your fingertips, the most advanced DVR/satellite television system at your disposal or millions of frequent flyer miles and no day job to worry about, this year's draft is pretty much a complete crapshoot. Scouting reports, YouTube clips, expert opinions - there isn't much else to go on. With a dearth of information, pretty much all we have to lean on is past experience. In other words, our biases.
It's rare that you'll find an opinion on a Sixer shared among virtually all the fans. Marreese Speights is pretty much that rarity personified. Even his most ardent supporters have given up the ghost on Speights at this point, and it's not hard to see why. He's up today in the prediction vs. performance series, stats and thoughts to follow.
If Andre Iguodala is the Sixers whipping boy among most basketball Luddites, Lou Williams clearly holds the honor among the deep-thinkers. His numbers are sort of sexy in a points-per-minute kind of way and many advanced metrics love his game, but there's something about what he does to the offensive flow that rubs people the wrong way. Let's see how he performed against my prediction.
It seems no matter what I write, the conversation always drifts back to trading Andre Iguodala, so why fight it? The most-relevant question regarding the Iguodala situation is probably what would other teams be willing to give up to obtain Andre Iguodala. Second on the list is what's the minimum you would accept in return. Let's tackle that one today.
Latest comment: from Charlie HJosh McRoberts has no elite skills....
They need a big. They need a scorer. They should trade up for Kanter or Biyombo. Iguodala must go. Thad must be re-signed. Let Hawes walk. There's no shortage of opinions on what the Sixers should do this summer and I'm sure everyone has the same goal in mind. My only question is where does the path lead through?
I thought Meeks would work his way into the rotation this season, but I never thought he'd become a starter and key contributor. His shooting opened doors on the offensive end for other guys and save for a terrible slump at the end of the season, he was a legit weapon throughout.
