Every time you think the other shoe has dropped, this Sixers team gets up, dusts itself off, and defies all logic. Tonight, a day after a terrible overtime loss to the hapless Kings, the Sixers went into the United Center (where they lost by 45 points in December) and put the East's best team away in a thrilling 97-85 decision. Every time you think they stink, they go out and prove they can play with anyone...anywhere.
Throughout the week, basketball writers from the major sites have a number of chats and run rumor columns. Every once in a while, they actually talk about the Sixers. In this column, GoSixers has aggregated the relevant stuff from the chats. You'll see stuff in here that will make you scratch your head, but keep in mind, these guys are experts.
Latest comment: from Rodney BufordAh, so this explains why Spencer Hawes had such a good game. :stereotype:...
I guess the silver lining is that maybe this game won't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Personally, that doesn't give me much solace. The Sixers should've never been in a close game with the Kings. They should've never had to come back. They should've never let it slip away and there's plenty of blame to go around.
If LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are merciless in attacking the basket, like they were tonight, I'm not sure any team in this league can beat them. I've seen the Heat play way more than I've wanted to this season, and I have yet to see those guys play like they did tonight. I'm sure there are adjustments Doug Collins can make to slow one of them down, but right now none are coming to mind.
Latest comment: from AlvinAgree, it's time to sit Iggy all the way the rest of the regular season....
Don't bother looking at the lineups too closely for tonight's showdown in Miami. If you do, I'm sure you'll be filled with a feeling of dread. LeBron James vs. a one-legged Andre Iguodala. Dwyane Wade vs. Jodie Meeks/Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams. Chris Bosh vs. Elton Brand and Thad Young. It's not pretty, on paper. If you want something to feel optimistic about, instead look to the benches, because Doug Collins is Philly's clear advantage tonight.

Andres Nocioni has re-entered the perimeter rotation as part of Doug Collins' effort to sort out the minute distribution among six players: Jrue Holiday, Jodie Meeks, Andre Iguodala, Lou Williams, Evan Turner and Nocioni. Let's take a close look at how these guys have performed, in combinations, then I'll try to come up with my ideal rotation at the one, two and three.
There was nothing impressive about the first three quarters. The Sixers defense was lackluster, their offense was scattered and almost lazy, their energy was sporadic, at best. That all changed at the beginning of the fourth. The Sixers erased a double-digit deficit and took down the Hawks.
Latest comment: from GoSixersPoint Guard is the least important position :)...
The last time the Sixers played Atlanta, they absolutely demolished the Hawks ... in Atlanta. Last night, the Chicago Bulls gave ATL the Washington Generals treatment to the tune of a 33-point loss. You'd think that might motivate the Hawks. You'd think that might light a fire under them. Of course, being motivated by embarrassment means you're assuming a team actually has a spine. I'm not sure that's the case with the Hawks.
So far this season, Doug Collins has picked his spots to make changes. He likes to implement them when the team has a couple of off days, then he sort of trickles the news into the media, then the next time the team takes the floor, the change happens. Meeks into the starting lineup, Iguodala to point-forward are a couple of examples. Well, the meme over this break has been increased roles for Tony Battie and Andres Nocioni for the home stretch.
