Click for full story. Two years ago, when the Sixers were battling for playoff seeding, the Nets swept the Sixers 4-0 in gut-wrenching fashion. Last year, when losses were eventually the goal, the Nets couldn't get out of their own way. The Sixers took the season series four-love. This year, the desired direction of the team is a topic for much debate, so the outcome of this game becomes a glass-half-full kind of situation. Either way, this one-game road trip is the first tune up for the Ice Capades road trip.

Click for full story. Heading into the season, looking at this roster, I was firmly entrenched in the "no short-term moves" camp. I believed this team needed to spend the season evaluating the players on the roster, installing a system they could then spend years executing and biding their time for another top draft pick and possibly cap space to be spent a couple years down the road. At this point, though, it's time to reassess.

Click for full story. It's been quite some time since I attended a Sixers blowout win. Today, the boys brought one home in emphatic, nearly historic fashion against a hapless New Orleans team led by a super star who is clearly going to be begging for a trade sooner rather than later.

Click for full story. Throughout the week, basketball writers from the major sites have a number of chats and run rumor columns. Every once in a while, they actually talk about the Sixers. In this column, GoSixers has aggregated the relevant stuff from the chats. You'll see stuff in here that will make you scratch your head, but keep in mind, these guys are experts. I'm on my way back from the WFC, my wrap will be up late tonight. In the mean time, enjoy this week's Sixers Around the Web

Click for full story. Well, I was all set to do the full Differential Production stats for this game, but then the final play happened and I lost my enthusiasm for it (kind of like Brian). If there's one saving grace (for those who want to see the team do well this year, that is), it's that many of these same players were around in 08-09, when they proved to be resilient in the face of several stomach-punch games (besides the Ray Allen buzzer-beater and the Devin Harris buzzer-beater, there were also buzzer-beaters by Nowitzki and Tony Parker, for example). Anyhow, I did watch the game again and compiled the reverse boxscore and PER numbers for the Sixers.

Click for full story. It's taken me more than 24 hours to gain enough perspective on this game to put my thoughts down. It took about 12 for me to separate the result from the game, and specifically the effort. Ultimately, we should be proud of what we saw from the Sixers on the court against Boston. They did everything we could've reasonably expected, and more. They followed the script almost exactly, matching Boston blow-for-blow throughout the night, and even delivering what could've, would've and should've been the knockout blow in the closing seconds. Unfortunately, the last team with the ball won.

Click for full story. The plan was for a recap of last night's game, but it's still too soon. Instead, I thought we could all use a pick-me-up. This morning, Rich is going to treat us to a closer look at the Sixers X's and O's (with video). Specifically, how is Jodie Meeks helping the offense and Thad's resurgence. Enjoy.

Click for full story. Let's face it, the Sixers are a laughingstock. If you don't believe me, set up a search on Twitter for "sixers" and spend your day getting constant updates from the teeming masses with gems like "Dem Sixers ain got no chance. lolz. smh. (sic)." Tonight is the only time most of those people will take the time to watch the Sixers. Tonight is the only time most of the national basketball writers will watch the Sixers. If the Sixers want to open eyes around the league, tonight might be their only chance of the season.

Click for full story. Ken Berger has an interesting blurb on his blog over at CBS Sports today. The logic - and this is coming from "Rival Execs" ergo neither from the Knicks nor the Sixers - is that if Carmelo Anthony is traded somewhere other than New York, and signs an extension, the Knicks would go after Andre Iguodala closer to the trade deadline.

Click for full story. I've been somewhat out of commission posting-wise because of the holidays and work, but I've been thinking of a simpler version of my "Differential Production" (DP) statistic. I'm sure the idea isn't new: calculate a reverse boxscore for a game. Next to a player's name will be the statistics of all the players he was guarding. The totals of the reverse boxscore should equal the team totals of the opposing team.

Click for full story. We're now three games into the Jodie Meeks era and the early returns certainly look positive. In two of three games, Meeks has caught fire from distance in the first quarter, setting the tone for the game. But, as Derek Bodner noted on Twitter and GoSixers mentioned in the comments here, he isn't really contributing in any other area. The question is, does that matter?

Click for full story. Win the ones you're supposed to win. To be successful in this league, that's the first step. Last night, the Sixers did just that. They used the first quarter to build a lead, then spent the rest of the night keeping Cleveland at arm's length until they delivered the fatal blow in the fourth. Exactly how you draw it up.
