Sam Hinkie did his roster destruction over the summer to set things up for the 2014 draft. Masai Ujiri appears to be doing his on the fly...maybe. Getting rid of Rudy Gay made the Raptors better. Forget about the players he got back, losing Gay was addition by subtraction, and if he stops there it wasn't a tanking move, but rumors have Kyle Lowry as the next man out of Toronto, which would signify an organizational tank job.
The first-place, 5-7 Philadelphia 76ers will try defend their honor, their perch atop the Atlantic Division and their home floor tonight when the mighty Raptors bring their 4-7 mark to the WFC. The irony of ironies when looking at the Atlantic Division standings is the three tanking teams are at the top, while the Nets and Knicks (contenders if you ask their fans) are bringing up the rear.
That first half was the ugliest half of basketball I've seen in nearly two weeks, since the Sixers last got hammered by the Raptors. The second half and overtime? Yeah, that was pretty.
With Shelvin Mack in hand and a couple days of practice under their belts, the Sixers will look to right a wrong tonight at the WFC. Nine days ago, they laid down in Toronto and let the Raptors have their way with them. They better stand up.

Over the past six-plus weeks, the Toronto Raptors have posted an unimpressive 10-14 record. What is impressive, is the dramatic swing the team took from horrid to great within that stretch. They lost an impressive 12 of 13 games early on, then won 8 of 9 later. They're currently riding a 2-game losing streak as they wait, rested, for this beleaguered Sixers team in Toronto.
With the game on the line, Doug Collins decided to go with a lineup that played to his team's strength. Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes went to the bench early in the fourth and Collins went with Jrue, one big and three shooters. Spread the floor, let Jrue penetrate and kick. 28 points in 10 minutes. 7-4 on the year.
Latest comment: from sixerfan1220pargo starting for irving tonight, however i would expect waiters to initiate most of the offense...
Ten days ago, the Sixers used a suffocating defense, sparked by their second unit, to stifle the Toronto Raptors for their fourth win of the season. Tonight, they're going to need more of the same.
Two-in-a-row, huh? It's been quite some time since the Sixers have strung two wins together, and even longer since their nominal point guard had 7 assists in a game. Both strings of futility came to an end in Toronto tonight. (game capsule)
I'm not going to look this up because, well, I already feel like I've put too much energy into caring about this team, so let's just assume the Sixers are the first team to lose to the Wizards and the Raptors by 20 points or more. The good news, the Sixers did it in less than a week! (game capsule)
Latest comment: from mymanjrueYou are spot on bebop...
Eventually, this win one/lose one pattern will be broken. The Sixers only focus against the Raptors is to make damned sure it isn't broken tonight. If the Sixers are going to have a prayer of finishing with better than the #7 seed, they have to beat the bad teams. Toronto has clearly earned the adjective.
Latest comment: from mymanjruekeep on keepin' on, Dollar Bill ...
If this script was so enjoyable, it might become tiresome. The Sixers, again, built a meager lead through the first half, then absolutely ran another team out of the gym in the second half. Last night, the victim was the Toronto Raptors who were ready to jump on the bus and get out of Philly halfway through the third quarter. The final was 97-62 and if Collins hadn't called off the dogs early in the fourth, they might've won by 50. (game capsule)
There was absolutely nothing pretty about this game. The Sixers played a depleted, bad team, they let them hang around. They almost let them come back and win it. Almost is the key, though. They came out on top. When you look back at the team's overall record, this one counts just as much as the win in Chicago. It's only when you grade a game on the hope it gives you that this one will be found wanting.
