The latest team rumored to have interest in acquiring Carmelo Anthony is the Orlando Magic, according to this article. Apparently, no one but Dwight Howard is off limits in their pursuit of Melo (and Chris Paul), so let's take a look at their roster and see if the Sixers could somehow worm their way into a deal.
I keep hearing, second and third-hand reports that Andre Iguodala is near the point where he will request a trade. I've yet to see it in print, and hope I never do, but you have to think the Sixers brass is at least considering the possibility. Whether it's a smart move or not isn't the issue I want to tackle, instead, I want to play "smash these two rumors together and see if they fit." The second rumor stemming from Kurt Rambis' continued abuse of his best player, Kevin Love.
With every day that passes, Denver's bargaining position in Carmelo Anthony trade talks becomes a bit more precarious. Melo doesn't want to be there, he's made that clear, and at some point he's going to become even more of a distraction. Another rumor broke last night regarding the Knicks and a mystery third team. It's possible the Sixers are that third team.
Throughout the summer, I've been firmly planted on the negative side of the trade Iguodala for Melo debate. My logic has always been when you take the complete game into account, Melo is probably a slightly better player, but the difference between the two on the floor isn't worth the difference in salaries. I'd like to test the theory a bit, today.
Latest comment: from bebopdeluxe43 wins sounds about right to me....
Phil Jasner has a brief piece saying the Sixers are in talks with Denver on a move that would send Iguodala to Denver for Carmelo Anthony. Other pieces would obviously need to be involved, and I'm not sure why Carmelo would sign an extension in Philly when he won't sign one in New Jersey, but that's the rumor, nonetheless.
Latest comment: from BrianCool. Still ironing out a couple more things, but we're pretty close to done now....
Ken Berger from CBS has a post tonight about how the Sixers -- and Nets -- could figure into the Carmelo Anthony trade drama. After the jump, we'll take a look at his logic, look at the various scenarios and then see if it's a trade worth making.
Marc Stein threw a bone to Sixers fans everywhere yesterday in his column. He mentioned the Sixers would be open to trading Kapono, which isn't really a shock. I scoured the Internet tonight to see if there was some kind of buzz and guess what? I found someone who wants him. Granted, it's a Kings blogger, but still. Someone does want him.

A rumor started on Twitter, I believe, and quickly spread by Ira Winderman. If the Heat can't get Mike Miller, they may look to trade for Jason Kapono. Their offer would reportedly be Michael Beasley.

I'm convinced Chad Ford is out of his mind. He continues to beat the drum that the Sixers are likely to trade the #2 pick (a) because Turner doesn't fit with Iguodala and (b) because other teams are interested in moving up and (c) because Doug Collins is in a "win now" situation. Let's throw some cold water on Ford's faulty logic after the jump.
ALERT: Actual Sixers rumor, see comments for analysis Well, it all comes down to the next 14 hours or so. The Sixers have basically fallen out of the rumors over the past couple of days since Ed Stefanski said the team was acting as a buyer rather than a seller, but you never know what could transpire as teams become desperate and the deadline looms. Let's use this post to keep track of the goings on, and after the jump I'll update a few charts.
Will Iguodala leave, will he stay? Can the Sixers find some way to leverage their position on the fringe of the rumor miller into some kind of worthwhile package for their best player? Can they worm their way into a deal that sends both Brand and Iguodala out of Philly? These questions are probably paramount for most fans at this point, but there are still games to be played, starting with Miami later tonight.
This one gets its own post, mainly because I've tried to tune the basketball world out over the holiday weekend. At 1:06 a.m. Chad Ford updated us on the Amare rumors, and Philadelphia is mentioned in a couple of different scenarios.
UPDATED 2/15 The Sixers may or may not trade their best player, Andre Iguodala. One thing is certain, however. The rumors are going to continue until the trade deadline passes. We'll use this post to keep track of who's rumored to be interested, and I'll surface the post whenever a new rumor breaks.
I have an extremely hard time believing Ed Stefanski will make a blockbuster trade that basically amounts to a salary dump in the next two weeks. That's not to say the Sixers won't pull the trigger on one of these rumored deals, but Stefansk? I don't see how he could possibly keep his job if this is the direction the franchise is headed.
