...or are we? That's pretty much the theme of tonight's game in Washington. The Sixers and Wiz have similar records, the only difference being a couple extra road wins for Philly (both teams enter 22-18 at home). Since there's nothing to play for and less reason to watch, I dug deep and found this picture of John Wall celebrating after hitting a three. The photog who nabbed this shot must've been on cloud nine, it's like seeing a unicorn.

The Sixers will look to ride their emotional win over a floundering Warriors squad into our nation's capital tonight to take on a grossly overrated 18-win Wizards team. John Wall (.496 career TS%) vs. Evan Turner (.483 career TS%), a matchup of the worst #1 and #2 pick combination in the history of the NBA draft. Exciting stuff!

There's no shame in splitting a pair of games against the Knicks and Grizzlies. There is, however, shame in the defensive effort the Sixers put forth last night, and blowing a 17-point lead. Anyway, they need to shake it off and focus, because the schedule is smiling on them over the next seven days, and they need to take advantage.

After seeing the Sixers dismantle the Wizards for the third time in just under two weeks, I find myself wishing I had watched their win over the Thunder, because for the life of me, I can't figure out how anyone lost to that team. The Sixers came into the game without the services of Spencer Hawes and Nikola Vucevic. They came out of the game grabbing over 80% of available defensive rebounds and limiting Javale McGee to 2 points and 2 rebounds in 21 minutes of work. (game capsule)

Last week could've been better, could've been worse. As long as the Sixers get back to what they did for the first 14 games of the season, it was simply two wins and two losses. As long as they shake off their second half letdown against Miami, or better yet, use it as fuel for a relentless attack on the Wizards tonight, it won't mean a thing. Another slow start, followed by a big second quarter, a decent third and then a slow-play to the finish line. The Sixers could've played better tonight, but a 13-point win on the second night of a back-to-back is something you have to be happy with. (game capsule)

It appears as though Doug Collins is as tired of slow starts as we are. Tonight, he decided to nip the problem in the bud. After only 1:44 of sloppy basketball, Collins lifted Jrue Holiday (who had already turned the ball over twice) for Lou Williams. The Sixers went on to lead the game by 10 after the first quarter and put the catastrophic Washington |
Stating the obvious, but the Sixers need to bounce back quickly from their tough road loss to the Knicks. They never gave up in New York, even though they had every reason to do so, now they need to get those excuses out of their minds. They need to collect themselves, take a breath, and get right back to blowing teams away when they face the Wizards tonight.

Perfect in terms of record, but hardly in terms of play. The Sixers polished off their abbreviated preseason schedule with a mostly-disheartening effort against the hapless Washington Wizards, and one hell of a finish.

It took the Sixers 12 minutes to wake up from their All Star break slumber, then they methodically put the Washington Wizards to bed. The 117-94 final score makes the game look closer than it was. The Sixers absolutely dominated Washington in a demonstrative opener to the final 26 games.
