UPDATE: It's official. 6-year deal for Samuel. Welcome to the Eagles.

G. Cobb has gone out on a limb and reported that the Eagles and free agent CB Asante Samuel have a verbal agreement in place. I would give you a link to the story, but www.gcobb.com is currently experiencing technical difficulties.

My thoughts: Samuel is a playmaker, which the Eagles need more of in any way, shape or form. On defense, they could really use some new blood at safety, linebacker, corner and defensive end. Samuel would fill one of those holes with a legit Pro Bowl talent who has a knack for making big plays. I'm all for it.

The logic seems to be that Lito Sheppard would then be moved in a trade. For whom, I don't know.

I haven't seen any Randy Moss to Philly rumors yet, but I'd like to. Another name linked to the Eagles has been Javon Walker. A malcontent in both Green Bay and Denver, Walker would be the clear number one option in Philly, but I'm not sure how happy he'd be if McNabb checked off of him whenever there was a defender within 8 yards of him, as he does all-too-often.

It's past midnight, so teams can begin official negotiations with free agents. I have a feeling we're going to be hearing big news sometime before Monday regarding the Birds.

Many thanks to commenter Nick for pointing out the Samuel rumor in the comments on the Jevon Kearse post earlier tonight.

Hat tip to Bleeding Green Nation: The St. Petersburg Times has Samuel to Philly as imminent as well.

UPDATE: According to Fox Sports, Samuel will visit Philly tomorrow.
