In a much expected, and welcome move, the Eagles cut ties with Jevon Kearse
today. Kearse signed a $66M deal with the Eagles back in 2004 and has provided little on the field over the years. This season he was replaced by Juqua Thomas in the starting lineup.
Kearse was the first of two huge mistakes the Eagles made with their free agent dollars at the defensive end position, with Darren Howard as the second. They did, however, manage to draft a Pro Bowl DE in the same timespan in Trent Cole.
The ESPN article linked to above says the Eagles will surely be looking for a DE in the free agent market. Considering how the last two turned out, let's hope they merely look to add depth, not an impact player at the position. They could spend their cap space on, I don't know, maybe a wide receiver
Alas, the most memorable thing Jevon did during his time in Philadelphia was a Right Guard commercial which I cannot find video of anywhere on the Internet.
Have fun with the Patriots, Jevon, where you will surely sign and see your career miraculously resurrected like so many other over-the-hill stars. I wonder what they put in the water up in Foxboro.
